Check in from a Pregnant Chick

  • Hey all... well, Tippy wanted me to check in over here, so here I am.

Since I've been pregnant I've found it hard to stick to program, I was Somersizing, and loving it, but the morning sickness really got to me and I found myself eating tons of crackers... and really only keeping down limeades and milkshakes for the most part.

I have only gained 9# so far and I'm at 19 weeks along... basically halfway there. I've only gained 2# according to my OB's scale, and that's in 8 weeks. of course I lost 3 and then gained 5...

Now that my morning (read that as morning, noon, night, and inbetween) sickness has let up for the most part I'm trying to get back to eating on program. I really don't want to end up with gestational diabetes and my blood sugars have always fluctuated towards type 2 diabetes so it's something I need to be concerned about.

So that's it... oh... the baby's heart rate was in the 150s the first time we heard it... and this last time it was 144-146. We'll be having an ultrasound sometime this week or next and hopefully find out the sex.

  • Welcome, Lara! And Tip is right - I HATE saying that. Although you probably should not be on a strict low carb diet, watching carbs will help keep your glucose levels evened out. We do hope you will pop in here and keep us informed - lots of pregnant experience in here.
Congratulations on your blessed state! And I don't mean Arizona!
  • hello Lara!

I am also trying to get pregnant now and I'm glad that there someone else who is trying to follow a plan while being pregnant because that's what I intend to do to! According to what the baby's heart rate is, it looks like a boy to me!
  • LARA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Sweetie, BOY I"M SO HAPPY YOUR A PREGGER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    CONGRATULATIONS LADY !!!!!

  • Ruth, thanks for the welcome. I'm trying to get back to somersizing again as it's the plan I find easiest to follow, and I feel the best when sticking to. Also I can have the reccomended number of carbs and still be on it as long as I don't mix them with fats or proteins.

Pooky, good luck in the baby department, I totally fell off program in my 2-4 months, but I'm getting back on now. month 2 was when the morning sickness hit me with a vengeance, and it still isn't gone totally. But it is getting a LOT less frequent. No more need for IV lines. The Dr is guessing a boy too. We will see, I really don't care as long as it's healthy.

Leens, I just emailed you! but I will answer here too. I'm at 19 weeks 3 days. Due March 23. Morning sickness was awful... Had to be on IVs for dehydration even while drinking at least a gallon of water a day. Now I drink about 3/4 of a gallon to a gallon... Thankfully I'm not so sick anymore.

    I'll post again soon,

    Lara
  • Lara Woman !!

Don't worry about dieting, please just eat healthy and you might want to read up on to much protein during pregnancies.. My doctor didn't recommend any diet she just said eat a little of everything.......haaaaaaaaaaa which I did and then some lol.

Make sure your taking your FOLIC ACID and Vitamins !!!!!!!!! very very important.

    Love Leens
  • Oh Lara, it's so good to hear from you!
With my first pregnancy, I think I threw up from conception to birth. I may have thrown up during conception...but that's another story LOL! I certainly can sympathize with the morning sickness cause mine was all day and constant heart burn too! Oy vey! I'm amazed I had a second child.
Right now, your health and the baby's is most important, so eat sensibly and take good care of yourself.
    Have the in-laws left yet??
  • Congrats you will do fine i think with all the help here. just make sure that you do eat if it off plan well do not worry about that at this time. just watch how you eat and what kinds of carbs you eat too. there are low glycemic carbs out there that are better for you just basically stay away fron the refined carbs. and i can sympathasise with you i had terrible sickness but did not need iv's i just was nauseaus alot!!! but still managed to eat and eat i did!!! but that is another story. hang in there and keep posting we love preger chicks. and the baby's to!!!just stay strong and it will be ok. Post daily and when you have the cravings for junk post it does help chase the cravings away!!!
  • Well, I always or almost always managed to eat... it was just a question of keeping it down!!!

And I'm not eating too much protein... to much of anything really makes me feel icky. I can't even eat big salads anymore... have to have two smaller ones with an hour or two in between.

I'm mostly filling up on veggies, and although normally I don't eat a lot of carrots they've been a pretty common part of my diet lately. Celery sticks, and broccoli too.

I'm taking a really good Prenatal Vitamin from GNC, my dr liked it when I showed it to her. It has 800mcg of folic acid which is 100% of the daily value. And for some reason it doesn't make me sick like the others I tried.

My ultra sound is booked for a week from tomorrow... have to go clear across town for it but it was that or wait 3+ weeks and then have to take off from work for it. Hopefully we will find out the sex then... Not that we care which it is... we are just eager to know.

Type at you all again later....
