Keeping myself accountable

  • I have had problems in the past with binging. Sometimes I would purge....not a lot...but defenitely one time too many.

Now...I have a confession. I need to get it out so I don't do it. I bought all of the stuff (lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper) yesterday at the grocery store to do the Master Cleanse. I've read all of the articles about it that say it's a horrible cleansing program because the body doesn't need to go on a fast to cleanse. I know it's unhealthy because of the lack of vitamins and minerals. I mean, to survive for 10+ days on water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup....that's crazy! Then at night you do a senna laxative tea and in the mornings you do a salt water flush (salt water in water) both which are supposed to cleanse your intestines thouroughly.

I ended up crying and drinking the salt water drink this morning. I made one glass of tea but I don't want to do it. I want to do it because there's quick weight loss (apparently you'll gain at least 1/2 of it back when your done because it's water weight) but I thouhgt I could just eat healthier and smaller portions when I was done and not gain weight back. I want a quick fix and I want something that will make me feel better about myself. I know this isn't the answer. The thought of having diarrhea for 10 days really appeals to me though.....and I really hate to admit that.

I'm now drinking my regular breakfast smoothie (tofu, milk, flax seeds, banana, spinach).

I'm not sure what I want out of this post.....I guess it's just to get it out there and have people remind me that the Master Cleanse is a really bad program and I shouldn't do it.

  • Good for you! This is NOT a healthy option for weight loss. You will end up doing more harm than good to your weight loss efforts because you will end up slowing your metabolism because your body will think it is starving. Most of the weight you do lose will be water weight, which will come back on as soon as you start eating again. When you do eat food again, your body will not burn as many calories as before, and you WILL gain weight back...probably all you lose and then some. Another thing is if you deprive yourself of food for so long, you are setting yourself up to binge, which of course will cause you to gain even more weight. Finally, you will not be able to fuel exercise, which we all know is a critical factor to long term weight loss. There are a million more reasons why you shouldn't do this, and I am sure you already know all of them. I just thought I would highlight them to remind you of what you already know...this WILL NOT HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT!!!! Just have patience and lose weight in a manner you can sustain for the long term. You have already lost weight,so you are doing something right...just keep up the good work and stay positive...good for you for putting this out there and looking for support. You clearly know that this is not a healthy weight loss option...listen to that voice Good luck!
  • I have done it before. I really enjoyed it, and it made my skin look amazing. It was a good experience for me, but I didn't do it for weight loss. I hardly lost weight anyway, maybe 6 pounds, and it was all back on in a few days once I started eating solid food.

If you want a cleanse, go for it, but for weight loss, it really is kind of useless.
  • It is a bad idea. Don't do it. Including the salt water (which is toxic for you, that is why if you were stranded in a boat in the middle of the ocean it would be healthier to drink your own pee) and especially the senna tea (because after a few days of it it actually has the reverse effect and makes you constipated).
  • Thanks for the reply. I only ended up doing the salt water flush that morning and the sip of the lemonade. I have done very well since. I paid for the salt water flush the whole day though. Damn. It was horrible. That's a good thing though. I would've been really struggling if it had felt good.
