what do you do when you have a 'bad day'?

  • today I went over my points, and had a bit of a rough day..... I'm feeling really bad about it, so was wondering, what do you ladies do when you ahve a 'bad day'? How do you NOT feel bad about it?

I'm going with the "tomorrow is a new day" attitude, but lol I'm not so sure i'm oging to be thinking that tomorrow. Tomorrow night I have a weigh in and am worried i've not lost any weight, or that i've put some on............

I'm just getting confused with foods that don't have a point value on them already, or that i can't find on the WW website.....

how do you cope with that situation? how do yo uwork out the points of a food?
  • The 'tomorrow is a new day' attitude is the best way of dealing. Pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and move ahead! If you think your WI tomorrow is going to put you in a defeated mindset, DON'T WEIGH IN. There is no reason to do it every week if seeing a gain or even no loss is going to make you feel like you want to throw in the towel.

For foods with no specific point value, I use my WW calculator I bought (I bought mine off ebay... but you're supposed to buy them through WW directly). There's also the little paper sliders you get with the WW@home package... Or the online calculator if you're signed up for WW online
  • thanks for that...

I went to my WI tonight & have lost 1kg this week, so i'm still pretty proud of myself.....
  • You have to make a mind set that sometimes you are going to have a bad day. Just keep your eye on the prize so to speak and keep going with the new day attitude. I had a gain of 2.6 last week having stayed on my points and exercised everyday. I was very upset at first, but then I knew that would do me no good so I got out of my funk and did something I enjoyed, which in this case was to knit.
  • My leader made the analogy that if you dropped an egg from an egg carton, you wouldn't throw the whole dozen down because it was spoiled. Just clean up your mess and go forward. It will happen. Sometimes more often than others. That's the whole beauty of this program. Slow and steady wins the race.
  • Our leader just spoke of this very thing last week. She said we are not perfect and there are going to be times when this happens, it's normal.

I too have use the pick yourself up attitude and start over-today is a new day. If I threw in the towel every time I mess up I would never get anywhere, lol.

But I see your WI went well... for your loss!
  • I had a bad day today, too. Don't beat yourself up.

Besides, you still lost a KG!

    Great job!

Does this mean you went over and had no Weekly/Flex points to cover it and you feel bad or you had those points and still feel bad?

To me there are different feels depending on those answers.

If I go over and I have Weekly/Flex points I don't feel bad or guilty at all. Those points are there for us to use and not feel guilty.

If I don't have those points available, I journal, I evaulate what I did, I plan what I can do different next time and move on .... no guilt.
  • The best way to conquer it is to get back on track at the next meal after you had a bad period. Getting back on track immediately keeps you away from " I really had a bad day today " syndrome. Instead you really had a bad meal and you can stay OP easier. Besides, everyone has a bad meal sometimes. If it was so easy to be OP all the time, you wouldn't have to be on a weight loss program, you'd be doing it normally. . . . . . at least you know now when you're faltering. Can you remember when you didn't even think about it? See, you're not doing so bad after all because you've learned when you are making mistakes but that is why erasers are on pencils isn't it?
  • I agree...move on!

If you are overeating, STOP and get rid of it. Then move forward and just focus on making the next right choice!

You can do it. Congrats on the 1kg lost!!!
  • Hi there!
Hello to Laura and a few others I know for other threads.
Just had to add my two cents. Firstly, there are always going to be bad days - life is what happens to us all and there are going to be stresses, birthdays, holidays, parties and just days where we think we'll do OK and we just lose it. Don't beat yourself up over it.
One of my favorite sayings is "slow and steady wins the race". It is so very true and you need to just pick yourself back up, forgive yourself and move on. I have gone as far as to start a new journal after really blowing it and blowing all my weekly flex points. For example, if it's day 3 of my week and I blow ALL the 35 flex points and I am stressed. I have (but you just can't do this all the time as you truly will fail, of course) actually torn up the bad journal, got out a new journal the next day and truly started over. That is the ultimate forgiveness.
ONE day out of several weeks is not going to make your entire weigh loss program a failure. We all need to not be perfectionists!
