Let's try this moral support thing...

  • Hello everyone. I've never really been a dieter, tend to be comfortable with myself, but have a hard time staying on top of fitness. For a while I was getting up and riding a stationery bike every morning, and I lost inches, but got discouraged that I wasn't dropping weight. I'm trying to start doing that again, but I don't have a ton of moral support. I've had a doctor be mean to me about my weight, which made me feel horrible and didn't help in the motivation department. I want to get in better shape ... just for me. I'm hoping this forum will help keep me achieve my goal in a more positive way.

  • Glad you're here. Yes, I have seen doctors that can be quite insensitive towards us food lovers, but what the heck...

You'll find lots of motivation here, this bunch is awesome.

Don't forget the muscle weighs more than fat rule, and you'll be A-ok. Personally, I'd rather lose 10 inches and be able to fit into smaller clothing, than to lose 10 pounds and not be able to fit into smaller clothing. I know the scale can be frustrating, but try to keep this in mind, if it helps.

    Anyway, glad you came...

  • Losing inches is awesome! I woke my husband the other day to tell him I had to move in a notch on my belt I was so excited. Then I weighed myself and it hadn't budged. I had to try hard not to get discouraged because something is obviously happening.

Good luck! And forget about the dr. They can be so insensitive!
  • Hey, followthebeat!

You'll find lots of us have experienced what you have--and that's a good thing. When you tell us what you're going through, many of us know what that's like. Such as the dr. being harsh with you.

Sometimes drs. do that because they see so many obese people and people with diabetes and high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease... they must feel really frustrated at times. But still, it doesn't feel really great to be on the receiving end. Take it as a wake-up call, though! Then it can be a positive thing.

My experience has been that exercise alone, although it is good for losing inches and toning muscle, does not lead to weight loss. For me, exercise has to be coupled with control of food intake to lose weight. It really does seem to come down to calories in versus calories burned.

Good luck! And check out the other resources on this site for more ideas.
