Do you have a certain place that is a trigger??

  • I know whenever I go visit my mother (3 1/2 hours away) that I have poor impulse control. It's where I was an overweight child and where I have the lowest self esteem. So, it's my worst place food wise. I have all it takes to not binge there. And, unfortunately since it's such a trip, we usually go for a few days.

Does anyone else have a "special place" that, even when you are doing great, the minute you enter you have a hard time controlling your cravings?
  • Mine also was my childhood home. It was sold a couple years ago. So I no longer have that problem. But it can be anywhere now.
  • My trigger is a vacation, any vacation
  • Just the kitchen.
  • Ha ha ha, Alinnell!

I don't have a real trigger place (except that I'm not great in restaurants), but I have a hard time when I hang out with old "eating buddies".
  • For me it is any place where COOKIE DOUGH can be found!!! I just can't resist it!
  • My mom's house. But less for emotional reasons and more because she has, oh, every single one of my trigger foods on hand...peanut butter filled chocolate covered pretzels, nuts, french bread, cheeses, pita chips, hummus...
  • my mothers house for sure, shes always got something good cooking

also my car....... i find it so tempting to go to a drive thru when im driving down fast food alley
  • Mine is Boise, Idaho, which is where I let myself get to 261 lbs. during the 9 years I lived there. I visit a couple of times a year now, and find myself driving to restaurants and ordering like I'm on autopilot. Luckily, my gym in Oregon has a reciprocal arrangement with a gym in Boise so I make sure to exercise regularly, which has been helpful.

OMG-same here. It's my stepmom's house, not my mom's, but she has just loads of foods that I really have trouble resisting. She's a terrible cook, too, so it's all junk. Snack cakes, snickers ice cream bars, chocolated covered oreos, chocolate covered cashews, regular cashews (which would be fine if only I could eat them in moderation), chocolate candy...it's all so bad. At christmas, she also has a bunch of baked goods: pies, date bars, magic bars, pecan bars. Every time I go home, I think, "okay, this time I'll control myself" and every time it's a disaster. When I was home a Christmas, the three of us (stepmom, my dad, me) ate at least half a huge jar of chocolate covered cashews plus at least half a bag of chocolate butterfinger and nestle crunch candies in one sitting. And that was hardly the worst of it. Here it is a month and a half later and I'm still paying the price for that trip. Luckily I only get out there once or twice a year.
  • The mall - any time I'm there I HAVE to stop by the food court. It's disgusting.
  • Mine is not so much a place as its a time......early afternoon, about 2 or 3. For some reason, I always feel like I need a sugary high carb snack to keep me going.
  • I'm like Girlygirl, mine is a time rather then a place.

    Anytime that I'm awake.
  • Mine is anytime I go on vacation. I always seem to talk myself into cheating. Something along the lines of, "I'm on vacation. I should just enjoy myself! Screw the diet!"
  • Mine is my Mom's House. She has anything you want to eat there and everytime I go to visit (once a week) so immediately tells me about leftovers and snacks I can eat. Not to mention she practically piles food in my bag on my way out the door. She buys tons of junk but she only eats bits of it at a time so it is always there. When I was in my teens and trying to lose weight I asked her to stop buying junkfood to help support my weight loss but she just told me not to eat it because she liked to have it in the house when she wanted a treat... so yea... it's always a struggle there.
