I need help...

  • Im not sure how to go about getting a sponsor. I live in an area where the only meeting I have found has about 3 people who attend and there is no better way to say it, but they are all much much older then myself. I talked to one lady for a while trying to get a feel if she would be someone who could be my sponsor. However we had a hard time conecting because we are on such different paths in life. I need to talk to someone about "younger" issues. Going out to the bar, out for apps after work, my boyfriend... We just had a hard time relating.

What I am wondering is I would LOVE to keep attending meetings, however is it possiable to ask for a sponsor who does not live where I do?

I attended my first meeting last week and I felt like it was somewhere I needed to be, yet in the following week my binging was at its worst. I need the accountablity of more support then just the meetings...

Please let me know if you have any advice on what to do... I NEED HELP.
  • yes it is possible to have a sponsor that doesn't attend the same OA meeting as you, as long as u have one. I'm also in another 12 step program, and it is sometimes hard to find another recovering woman for a sponsor, my sponsor has a sponsor that is probably 150 miles away. Good luck.

One of the things that I've learned through program is that I don't always know what's best for me...especially if my head is in the food. I've learned some of the most amazing things from people whom I thought I would never know, understand, like, or relate to. My sponsor is my honest guide through the program. She isn't my buddy, my age, or like me in almost any way. What we share is the program. Because we are so different, she is sometimes able to give me a perspective that I never would have thought of.
Perhaps your higher power has a sponsor in store for you that will surprise you. There are lots of surprises ahead when you work the 12 steps. Pray about it, and try to remember the first step... you are powerless. You need help, and help sometimes comes from where you least expect it.
