The Iron Monster was kind this day and showed me a 1.6 pound loss. I am very happy to be going in the right direction once again.
JEAN I had a chuckle when I saw the number you used to start the thread but I have done that before so don't think I am faulting you. Hope the humidity has gone somewhat from your area.
Type at you later. Got to get my tracker pages made for a new month now.
Good Afternoon, Flowers!
It's a cloudy day in my corner of the world but is a pleasant lower humidity one. I've been doing some catch-up laundry and sorting through some 2003 catalogs I found stuck in an end table cubby hole. Don't have a clue why I saved those but they are in the recycle pile now!
Maggie -- Ooops! I guess I hit the 2 instead of the 3 and didn't even notice. Oh well . . . it'll keep everyone on their toes! Congrats on the loss! Are you still doing the Wendie high/low point days?
Not much is going on here. I need to clear off the counters and vacuum up the cat fur.
It is going to be another wonderful summer day here in the Sierras. I cleaned up my office/glass studio this moring. I like to do that after I make a few small projects before I start another big one. In July I sold 3 things and have 5 now on consignment so I feel that is quite good for a new artist come to town.
JEAN I don't ever donate blood because they don't want it. I am on meds and that is the reason, don't have any disease. I quit being a pack rat when we first moved into our travel trailer and still toss things once I have looked at them. If I want to buy something I tear out the page and the order page and throw the rest away. I put the information for ordering in a large manilla envelope and then later if I have no need for what I thought I wanted it is tossed. I have an envelope started for when we full time again. Things we need for the motorhome. Like I only found one place to buy a stainless steel dish rack that will fit in that small kitchen sink ~ got the information saved so when I want to order it I have it handy. I also have a picture of the digital camera I want ~ Will said they have them in Wal-Mart. I wasn't so sure ~ and they don't ~ but have a degree lower model made by the same company (Minolta) which is a couple of hundered dollars less so it is probably the one I will get. We'll see.
We will be going down south ~ leaving Monday and coming back Wednesday ~ just a quick 2 night trip. We like to go down and see the folks at least every 3 months. We were there last in June.
Good Morning, Flowers!
Just peeking in on my by . . . have a load of laundry headed for the washer! It's a beautiful morning but I can tell there is more humidity in the air than yesterday. It is supposed to be hot and humid for the next few days. We have been spoiled with cooler days and nights; I wish that would return for the beginning of the school year.
We are heading to Ian's house around noon. His parents are going to a concert and he will be our entertainment until this evening when Beth and Maddy can come to stay with him. We'll come home and regroup to go to MIL's tomorrow.
Maggie -- Your envelope idea sounds like a good one! Half the time when I mark and save a catalog page, I decide that I really don't need/want the item when I get back to it. After a year it might not even be available!
I need to get dressed and "go take on the day" as Dr. Laura would say. Have a nice day, Flowers!
Happy August, Flowers!
We just got home from MIL's and I wanted to check in with my cyber friends. It was so terribly windy that we didn't even sit outside let alone try to take the boat out. Wind makes me tired and I took a nap! I was tired after yesterday and trying to keep up with Ian. He is one busy little guy! Then Beth and Maddy came over so we had double the entertainment for awhile. There were thunderstorm warnings on the TV and we could see the dark clouds and lightning as we drove home. It got to our area around midnight and we got some wind, rain, and hail -- my geraniums are "bald" and the rest of the flowers are a sad looking bunch. DH hasn't had any farmers call so he's in hopes that there isn't any crop damage. He'll find out tomorrow, I'm sure.
I'm off to read the paper. Have a marvelous Monday, Flowers!
What a beautiful day we had. We are going south in the morning and don't expect to be back till Wednesday so don't look for me till then.
JEAN isn't it tornado season ~ with strong winds and all that goes with it out your way. You don't exactly live in tornado alley but do get some of the fall out. Stay safe.
Everyone stay safe and please do a random act of kindness. Type at you when we get back.
Good Evening, Flowers!
It's been a hot and humid day in my corner of the world. . .91° and 90% humidity!
I did my cat sitting chores this morning and the cat had pooped in the livingroom both yesterday and today so I shut her in the basement where her food is anyway. I think she is mad that her family is gone. She'll really be mad by the time they get home!
Then I made a grocery run for a brownie mix to fix for our neighborhood get together tomorrow night. I made an 8" pan and will any leftovers there. This afternoon I worked in the hospital gift shop . . . needless to say I didn't get any sorting and pitching done today.
Maggie -- You are long gone by now but I hope that you have a nice visit with your folks. Yup, it is tornado country here. That is also our high school mascot. We've had more thunderstorms this spring -- the weather has been so weird. It's been unusually "cool" for an Iowa summer and I've not heard any predictions for what kind of winter is coming. We'll get rain but yet it will be dry on the other side of the lake.
I'm heading off to bed! Have a terrific Tuesday, Flowers!
Jean: Since you are a "garden" person I need your input. I want to put a couple hanging baskets with some kind of flowers in them on my deck. I want something I don't have to replant year to year, are easy to maintain because I am seriously gardening challenged and bright colored maybe red or blue. Oh and nothing that has a nasty smell like petunias do. As far as sun they would hang in front of the garage so would get partial sun.
We decided to treat ourselves and are making italian sausage and corn on the cob in the husks on the grill for dinner tonight. I rarely make any kind of brat type stuff because it is so very fatty but dh had a hankering for it.
went to the dr yesterday and everything is a-ok except my hormones and I just have to hang in there for awhile longer. I told the dr I am not at all comfortable taking HRT so am just going the "herbal" route. He told me to keep up the good work and I have to go back for a bp check in 3 months.
I guess I better get to some chores. MAGGIE HOPE YOUR'E HAVING A FUN TIME!
Good Morning, Flowers!
It's a cloudy day in my corner of the world and is a tad bit cooler. It's supposed to be in the 90s later this week so the air is still on! I've been to do my cat chores and the cat politely ignored me and wouldn't let me get near her. I think she's mad at me! I need to unload the dishwasher and do a couple loads of laundry. As usual, what I want to wear for my mammogram is in the hamper.
"Gma" -- I wouldn't say I am a gardner by any stretch of the imagination! We've tried to plant two flower gardens by using a diagram and bulbs from one of those mail catalogs. Part of the stuff grows and most of it doesn't. DH got mad and threw in a bunch of wild flower seed and now thinks there is marijuana growing too. My geraniums (in flower pots) haven't been pretty at all this year and I'm thinking we should have used new dirt instead of recycling last year's dirt. I would probably try something like impatience in your hanging pots as they are pretty hardy. I've had good luck with them but don't keep them out year around either. Maybe you could/should visit a green house and ask their advice. What "herbal" stuff do you take . . . black cohosh or soy? That is what they recommend around here.
Well, I need to keep moving! Have a terrific Tuesday, Flowers!
It is a very hot corner of the world here. We just got back from two days at Mohegan Sun, an Indian Casino. Went there to celebrate Dh's 75th BD which won't be til Thursday but hotel prices are cheaper on the weekends. It was great fun...not much gambling but did visit the pool and that was wonderful. Did a lot of people watching and had one great meal at Tuscany! It is a Todd English restaurant, he is of PBS cooking show fame. They had a luncheon called the Tuscan Table (like a buffet) it was exquisite. Had a piece of Tuscan flatbread, think pizza, but this had prusuitto, fig preserve, gorgonzola cheese...no tomatos.....mmmm good. Some of the other dishes were good but not outstanding, however, they had a carving table with steak tips, melt in your mouth and beef ribs that were unbelievabe. I was very careful and since we were eating at 3PM and were not going to eat again that day I don't think it was too bad. Oh, they had an extremely interesting dessert table, Tirimisu, cannolis, cheesecake, strawberry mousse, cookies and a dish that reminded me of creme brulee. Each serving was extremely small and that was a good thing. I had a taste of the brulee and the mousse. Walked around the casino for 2 hours afterwards.
Jean: You are a kind person to watch the neighbor's cats. DH did the same last week for our neighbor. He just had to go in and make sure there was enough food.....he never saw the cat. This is a super shy one and he only heard him as he scooted to the basement when DH opened the front door.
Maggie: You should be back tomorrow and I hope you had a great trip down South. Your glass houses sound wonderful and isn't it grand to do something you like and have it become a business.
Faye: I, also, can't give advise re: gardening...very brown thumb. Have had a bit of luck this year in a planter where I have some Basil, Rosemary, and Parsley. DH has had good luck with his Germainiums in pots. We used a bit of Osmocot (sp) which is small pellet type fertilizer and only needs application once every 4 months. I think the bottle will last us the rest of our lives. LOL
Gloria in MA.....catching up with laundry....and I here the dryer calling.
Good Evening Flowers!
I'm having a mad! I like to listen to Dr. Laura in the afternoon and catch the end of her show on my way home from school. The Omaha station where I can get her, or used to get her, now has some dodah that "hummmms and ummmms" as well as stumbles over everything he is trying to make funny. He sounds so ridiculous and I am grouchy! I can get her at night but if the state universities have a game that night, she gets booted off. Now I will get off my soapbox. I'm going to see if I can find the station online and tell them what I think!
Gloria -- It's nice to see your post! We have cooled off and it's been a cool day in the 60s. I hope it warms up just a tad as we are having Madaline's birthday party at MIL's lake home this Saturday. When I was reading through your desserts, I read "strawberry mouse" the first time. I've never heard of Tirimisu - what is it? Years ago we had a former neighbor feed our cat who was half Siamese and didn't like anyone except DH and myself. The neighbor was afraid of her . . . said the cat was possessed by the devil because she would sit and stare at people she knew didn't like her. Anyhow, I would leave our tank vacuum by the door and Bernie would drag that with her because the cat was afraid of the vacuum!
I've got to make some phone calls for church so had better get to dialing. Hope you all have a terrific Thursday!
Jean: Thanks for the advice. Oh, Tiramasu is an Italian deserrt where it is a layer of ladyfingers cookies soaked in a liquer then covered in a custard. I hate it but a lot of folks like it. It is very popular in Italian restaurants mainly. As far as my med stuff, I use a progesterone cream that has the stuff in it like the black coash etc. I just use two pumps and it helps but I ran out and have to get to the health food store which is across town. The durn stuff is expensive too about $24 for a tiny pump bottle that lasts about 3 weeks maybe.
Gloria: I used to be a casino junky but since I no longer work I don't go much. Sounds like the food was good.
We are supposed to have thunderstorms today so I may just forego any exercise. I would have to go to the mall anyway and don't know if I want to keep the car or not just to go over to the mall. I am cleaning downstairs today so maybe I will get enough with doing it.
Everybody have a good day and Maggie hope your trip was fun
**IF YOU WANT A SPECTACULAR TREAT THESE ARE MAGNIFICENT. I SUBSTITUTED WATER AND POWDERED MILK WITH 1% MILK, THE BUTTER FOR LIGHT BUTTER, ICE CREAM WITH LOW FAT BREYERS VANILLA, EGG WITH EGG BEATER, BUT I ADDED VANILLA ICING ON TOP BECAUSE JACK LOVES FROSTING.

Good Evening, Flowers!
We ate supper out tonight . . . Chinese . . . hmm, hmm, good! I will have to drink lots of water tomorrow! It's been another beautiful day in my neighborhood! I did my cat chores and some laundry this morning. Then this afternoon I worked in the hospital coffee shop. I've decided I'd rather work in the morning for a couple three reasons: it is busier, I don't have to do the end of the day "putting stuff away/cleaning," and counting out the money! The gal in charge got us started about a half hour before we closed so we were done on time.
"Gma" -- I could do the ladyfinger part but forget the custard! You could come and clean at my house when you are done with yours. It seems like I get one corner picked up and cleaned, then there's a pile somewhere else! My "mom" is coming this weekend so I really need to clean the spare room tomorrow!
I need to make a grocery list for the weekend. Hope you all have a nice evening!
Jean: Gosh, if there is one thing that will put me over the edge is any clutter. I have it, but it is out of plain sight. I would work myself to death but Jack is a clutter person and I could never keep up so the deal was his office I don't touch if he keeps the rest of the house clutter free. Now closets are a problem because ours are too small and not enough and I haven't cleaned out old stuff yet. I still have to get storage containers for stuff I don't want to get rid of or stuff I want to keep and sell at the annual garage sale (which we missed this year again) I am a neatness freak but I have had to accept that dh is not and try and compensate.
I did get in the pool yesterday but think I will take today off. I have a lot of things to do and errands to run.
