Default New and Confused

Hi all! I love the name of this website! Just have to giggle when I think of how my two sisters and I could have started this!

I am going through the process of insurance, meetings, etc. for surgery. My doc recommended the new program in Davenport through Genesis Med Center. "New" is the problem. The program was just begun this summer and the surgeons have only performed 4 surgeries so far. My husband thinks that because they are newly trained, they will be up to date on the latest techniques and meticulous in their work. Others tell me to go across the river to Trinity or to Belvideere, Illinois. Any advice/thoughts are appreciated.

TIA,
Andrea

oh my goodness, andrea. what a choice! There are MANY things that go into this decision, and the skill of the surgeons is only one piece. while they may have done only 4 surgeries out of this program, where did they train? and who trained them? what's the rest of the facility like? do they have the right equipment for handling folks our size? do the nurses have the training required for getting us through this?

what happens if something goes wrong? are there other skilled surgeons around? other specialists??

and what about the aftercare? is this one of those gotta-drink-milk groups that gives everyone the runs because they can't tolerate lactose anymore?

what's the screening/approval process like???

and these are just the things that rolled off the top of my head!!!!!!! i'm sure there are others as well.

nice to see you around here...

andrea

it is great to see you have started the ball rolling

i also believe like your husband being new that they would have the best new tricks of the trade

my clinic has 3 surgeons one who has been doing this for over 25 years and newer surgeons which he has trained

now the thing is dr martin uses stapels on outside for lapro bypass dr scalia uses some kind of tape that falls off by themselves

the great thing was dr scalia did surgery while dr martin assist
so you know how great and secure i felt having the old and the new there

it is always a personal choice like jiffy said the operation is only part of it a major part i must admit but things like hosp facility and after care like group sessions is also important

good luck with ever you decide
always check with the man upstairs and he will assist you in making that decision all you have to do is take in prayer

later bevmel
