Default How to STOP period..

Has anyone been given anything by their Dr. to STOP a period? My period is 51 days long right now (still heavy, lots of clots). I see my Dr. on Saturday but I am just hoping she can give me a magic pill to stop this darn thing.
I don't want birth control because I don't want to prevent pregnancy-- I'd happily accept another blessing in my life!

I just don't want her to say "let it take it's course" because I haven't had sex in 51 days.. it's horrible on my self esteem, marriage, etc..

Any ideas on what she could give me?

I suffer from pcos too. I am not sure what else they can give to stop it, but I had a period for about a month once. Then I didn't have one for a few months, and then I had it again for a whole month. Anyway, I ended up in the hospital needing a blood transfusion from the amount of blood I had lost. My parents didn't want me on birth control at the time to regulate it, (I wasn't sexually active, and I guess they thought it would encourage me to be), after I got out of the hospital they put me on the pill to stop it. They didn't suggest putting me on anything else to stop it.

I am not sure what else they can do. That's just my own personal experience. You don't want to get sick from losing blood over time so if I was you I would stop it using birth control until you can find a better solution.

Have you tried supplements? I have heavy, painful periods, and my doc was USELESS. I did a search on Google using phrases like "heavy menstrual periods clots" and "natural support". A LOT of stuff came up. You'd be surprised how many women suffer from heavy, clotty, long periods, especially as they approach menopause. (I've talked to a lot of women since and everyone I've talked to in their late 30s and 40s has wicked bad periods.) Anyway, I compiled a list of supplements. I've only been taking them for about two months, but my last couple periods were still heavy but not as much and my last period ended early (for me). I can't promise they will help, but this is what I've taken:

10,000 IU beta carotene (NOT vit. A--that can be toxic)/once per day for 10 days (one source said do 25,000 IU)
1,000 mg vit. C w/bioflavinoids/three times a day
100 mg B complex/once per day
15 mg zinc/once per day
2,500 mg evening primrose/three times a day

Good luck! You are not alone!

To stop your period you may only need one cycle of birth control, which sure beats being on your period for the same amount of time. Just something to consider.

I believe Provera works as well.

Thank you all. I will do B/C if it's the best option for me.. I have such bad bad acne all over my body, too.. so maybe I should go on B/C for a year or so until I lose most of this weight and then try to TTC. I am sure once I lose the weight my cycles will be back to normal.
