  • Hi Ladies.

Well went to the dr today. As I suspected it wasn't good. My A1C (checks my blood sugars for 3 months) was extremely high. My cholestrol also went up, not terribly, but still went up. So I have to be really good. My dr wants me to be really good for a month and see what a difference it makes. He wants to see if I can get my sugar and cholestrol levels down naturually. I am on diabetic medication which he increased.

So I got a bunch of books at the 1/2 priced book store to read up on. I bought Sugar Busters, a book on Diabetes and a book called skinny witches only you know what the real word is. lol. I am going to start taking my Fish Oil Pills 3 X's a day (lowers cholestrol). This along with a healthy diet and exercise I can bring down my cholestrol. I have done it before. So I KNOW i can do it. Now I have to also bring down my blood sugars.

So per my dr. NO soda period. Water, water and more water. Which is fine I do love water, the hardest part will be when I'm working. But I can do this I know I can do it. I am just looking at one month for now. If I can do this for one whole month, then I know I can do this forever! I mean after I get my BS (Blood Sugar) down and cholestrol down and lose weight, then I think I would then be able to be more flexible and have an occasional goodie.

Hub and I figure that for ONE meal a week we can "splurge" so we aren't going insane. I think that would be okay, one MEAL a week? AS long as we don't go totally nutso. lol.

So its back to the Y and exercising. My dr wants me to walk in the pool so that my joints don't suffer and that I'm not in excruciating pain. So now I have to find a bathing suit that I don't have to quit breathing in to fit into.

Well that is about all. Tomorrow is the gyn. what a way to spend my time off! lmao.

Oh P.S.........I am also back on my anti-depressant.

I hope you all are doing well.

  • Sassy, I read that fish oil was not necessarily good for Type 2 diabetics. It could make your blood sugar readings go up.

See article at the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published Sept 2006.

Norwegian scientists recently reported the results of a study of type 2 diabetics who were given high doses of fish oil (6 grams per day) (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, September 2006). The diabetics on fish oil had lower insulin sensitivity and higher average blood sugar than those on placebo.

Even though fish oil might be beneficial for most people, these findings suggest that high doses might pose a problem for diabetics. Lower doses, such as one gram daily, might be fine.

Conclusion: A high intake of fish oil moderately increases blood glucose and decreases insulin sensitivity in persons with type 2 diabetes without hypertriacylglycerolemia and alters carbohydrate and fat utilization in a time-dependent manner.
  • Viki,

Thanks for the info, but my dr is aware I'm on the fish oil and he said himself it was okay for me to start taking it 3 X's a day.
  • That is interesting about the fish oil. I take cod liver oil daily for my joints, and find my bg is actually better when I take it. I only take 1T a day...but if I miss it, my joints really suffer. We are all different though...

SASSY: What was your A1C? When I first had mine checked, it was 14.85! It has come down a lot though in the six or so months since I first had it checked. As for splurging one meal...well, I don't recommend it. The reason why is that so many people would struggle to get back on track after a cheat meal like that. Is it worth it if you are going to be having to struggle to get back on track?

    Gotta get off here!
  • Hi Monet.

    My A1C was 8.1.
  • Morning everyone..its nice to see new people and read up on what everyones up too.. im still tired from being away from home and have been taking it easy..my dd is doing better and thats such a relief.. its snowing today our first of the year.. we always have snow before halloween nothing going on here but alot of dust bunnies that need to be taken care of..have a great day everyone((((((((hugs))))))))))) rosey
  • Hey everyone! I spent the day working in pottery...I got three large pitchers done, and a decorated plate. We glazed and fired a kiln of stuff...it is not done yet, but will be tomorrow.

I have not checked my bg tonight, but it was high this morning. I guess it was the ice cream I ate last night!

SASSY: 8.1 is above normal, but not terrible. You can get it back down! Mine was 14.85 when I was diagnosed. Does that help you feel a bit better??

ROSEY: Snow already? Wow...it was cold here, but we rarely get snow. I need to tackle some dust bunnies too!
  • morning all. rosey i hope you are planning to keep yor snow there.
    glen
  • Good morning all, BG was 96 this am. Looking forward to getting past Halloween so that there is NO CANDY sitting around. I am not eating any, but yikes it all looks good. Wish my husband had not bought chocolate...a weakness of mine. I should have told him to get something like sweetarts or gumballs which I can't stand.

Rosey: We actually had snow last Saturday and Sunday morning. Of course it melted right away, but gaaaahhh snow in October in Omaha is totally too early. Maybe next month around Thanksgiving...

Monet: You need to post some pics of your creations so we can oooooh and aaaaah.

Sassy: So glad you and your doctor are working closely to bring down your numbers. I agree with Monet, 8.1 A1c is high, but I have talked to alot of T2s that start out in double digits. You and I have a much better starting point. Mine was only 7.0. I have to retest in Dec, but I am pretty sure I will be under 6 this time.

Rosetta, What fun, I love the penny slots...unfortunately, they rarely love me LOL! Great time though.

Floridarusty: I love and use Splenda too. Also Walmart's brand of sucralose, Altern which is about $2 cheaper. But my favorite sweetner is Torani or DaVinci Syrups with liquid Splenda. I use them in cooking and flavoring all sorts of recipes. World Market had them on sale at $5/bottle. I bought French Vanilla, Chocolate, Hazelnut, Irish Cream, and Almond. Trust me, almond syrup in green beans with slivered almonds, and hazelnut on oatmeal mmmmmm!
  • Viki, here ya go! Ohs and ahs are only allowed if genuine! The last one is the pitchers I made yesterday.

  • OOOOOOooooooooooohhhhhhhhh!

I love that blue one! Would go very nice in my living room.

    Such a talent Monet!
  • Hi, all. Our weather here has been cool one day, warm the next. Still autumn. I noted that it was a lot darker when I got up this morning. Winter is coming. Rosey - you didn't get much of a summer at all. Maybe I should move to Alaska.
Monet - your pots are wonderful! Long ago I took a pottery class. I liked getting my hands on the clay and turning the wheel, but I was so bad that my teacher offered to give me weaving lessons instead! (I eventually took weaving lessons but didn't do much better, although I enjoyed dying the yarns.) I don't seem to have any talent for crafts.
Well, I have to weigh in tonight and it will be the first time in two weeks. I know I've put on a bunch of lbs and just can't seem to get back on program. Sigh.
  • Morning! Bg levels were not that great this morning. I was disappointed, since I was pretty careful yesterday. I even walked two miles. I plan to walk today, and if I feel up to it, will do the three mile. If it is raining, which is what they are saying, I will use the new Walk Away the Pounds dvd I got yesterday. I hear such great stuff about these workouts..I hope I like it. I need something to replace water aerobics in my affections since it is TOO cold to even THINK about getting in the pool!

I have a friend coming in to visit tomorrow from out of town. I need to clean house today. That is one of my least favorite activities. The person who is supposed to unload the dishwasher did not do it yesterday... ....so I can't get into the kitchen and clean! I am NOT doing it for them either.

Guess I will try and get moving here... hope everyone is doing fine!
  • Don't be too disappointed Monet, you are doing marvelously. You have lost already THIRTY POUNDS! That is amazing. It is so easy to get fixated on the numbers when it is such a small part of your success.

Two miles is wonderful. That is about what I walk too. But I know it is getting more and more dreary out and eventually cold weather is going to keep me in. You have found another dvd to try...again keeping it fresh so exercise does not get boring. Smart girl!

I found I could not do one of my dvds...it kicked my butt. But instead of not exercising, I turned on the music, cranked it and danced instead. A little salsa on my abs...and fun. The dogs won't laugh at me and no one else can see me being silly. The point is...everyone here needs to MOVE their bodies to make their cells be less insulin resistant. Just twenty min after each meal. If you want to also lose weight...go for 30 or 40 minutes.

Anyway, make it a good day ladies!
  • I cleaned most of the day. I have a friend coming in from out of town tomorrow. I have not seen her in three years, so it will be nice to spend some time with her.

I have a headache tonight. I think it must be related to my Byetta. I got one last night too. I get a bit nauseated, then I get the headache.

Not much going on other than that, so I will sign off and get ready for bed. Night!
