Ok, Encouragers, fasten your seat belts cause its gonna be a bumpy ride.

Here's the deal, a week before big DS was to head off to TN to school we got a call from the CC coach at that school that the NCAA had just informed them that DS was not eligible to run DIV I CC. WHAT!? He took the tougher classes in HS over and above the Core 40 diploma requirements. I've never put a kid in college before, how am I supposed to know all the ins and outs of it. We went up to the HS to find out where we went wrong, turns out the school counselor and/or the Principal make sure they sit down with kids who are planning to compete in college to make sure by their Junior year that they have all the requirements covered. They didn't do it with mine cause it just slipped their minds, I believe its because he runs CC and in this state if you don't play basketball no one considers what you do as much of a sport. Plus, requirements changed this year, last year you only had to have 14 credits, this year you had to have 16, Joshua has 15. So, he lost his scholarship, I lost all the time and money I've spent driving him down there 5 times, spending a weekend for orientation. We had to rush to get his loans done so he could be official just to have to turn around and get those loans cancelled and try to figure out where he would go and how we were going to pay for it. All is well though, he is at a smaller private university about 40 min. from home, and they gave him a good scholarship to run. Hopefully he will be able to return to Lipscomb next year, I still feel like that is where he is supposed to be. Meanwhile, the day we found this info out was the day I got back from Indy with big DD after going to see the Sports Med. specialist. We found out she had to have surgery on this leg that we just got done putting a boot on cause a different Dr. said she had a stress FX. This Dr. has said for 2 years there was nothing wrong and when he released her to start running again, she was still in pain so I got a referral elsewhere and it took them 15 min. to tell us what was wrong and what needed to be done. She had surgery last Tuesday, the first day of school to boot. So, now she's gonna miss about 4 more weeks of CC and I could have already had her through this mess if I would have taken here there sooner. So this mess is whats been eating me up, all the "What if's?", I'm doing better with the whole situation but I do feel like maybe we made some rash decisions that we probably should have taken a day or two and just prayed about it all. It was just the time factor that led us to do what we did. I'm praying now that we did the right thing for Josh.

On a more positive note, I have gotten my booty out and running again and I'm riding my bike as well, trying to give my legs a break every couple of days so maybe my knees won't scream at me as bad and my back won't give me as many fits. So far, I'm feeling pretty good. I just don't seem to have as much determination as I used to have. More prayer, more prayer. I don't know how I ever lived without it.

Thanks for listening to me vent my frustrations, I'm trying not to dwell on it and just trust that God is in the drivers seat and he'll take us where we need to go.

Trish - your family continues to be in my prayers! I'm glad that you are handling the frustrations so well. Why is it, when life gets crazy, that we forget to slow down and pray about all the craziness? I've definitely struggled with this as well! AND - to make matters worse, I don't seem to retain this lesson very well

Shy - I understand your disappointment, but - honestly - a year from now, it won't matter one bit what date you finally reached your goal. AND - you have continued to hang in there - with grace and style - when you could have thrown in the towel until you were off the meds. I'm so proud of you!!!!

TACKLENURSE - 10 lbs in a month and a half is not SLOW! That is AWESOME!!! Way to goooooooo! And - I hear ya on the little ones. I wonder what it will be like when I have grandchildren. I'm way out of practice dealing with toddlers.

Blue - (fellow perfectionist here speaking). Realizing that this is a journey - an a way of life, rather than another "project" has really helped me a lot. That being said, being a perfectionist HELPED me with planning, and motivation, and enthusiasm, and dedication. I found that I could (finally) find the right mix - embrace my God-given talents and personality traits and use them for good - instead of beating myself up with them. I calorie cycled quite a bit over the last year. It does work

I am spending the day doing colonoscopy prep, which is not really much fun at all So, I am praying that the results are favorable, and I don't have to do this again for another 10 years!

Shy, sorry to hear your meds are giving you fits, I'm sure you'll be back to normal (whatever that means) very soon.

Counting, thanks for understanding, yes I forget these lessons it seems daily. When I'm with the women in the jail, things seem so much clearer and it helps to give me the proper perspective. I hope your tests were not too unpleasant and give you good results.

I have had a chance to read through this whole thread( I am at work). I just wanted to check in. I have been struggling with binging and etc recently. So, I am prayeful that I will get over this little snag in my weight loss. I am doing a low carb deal to jumpstart my weight loss but I am a calorie counter by nature. I have alot going in my life right now and I so desperately want to turn to food....but instead I have turned to shopping Anywho, I am a Christian and I want to have the support of fellow believers. Today was decent. I did pretty well with food choices and came in at 1500 calories. I'd like it a bit lower, but I'm happy with it for today. I took the kids to the park and went walking. They began whining about five minutes into it about the heat, lol, so it didn't last long. I'm looking forward to walking in the cooler days of fall very soon!

Joann, Inkymama, Ann! Yes, we're praying for the Floridians. We had our own flooding earlier this summer, so my heart goes out to you. Glad to have all of you here!

Thanks to everyone for the prayers. My back is feeling somewhat better. I know it'll never be pain-free again, but it still surprises me when I do something that sets me back in therapy, because I never know just exactly what I did that makes the excruciating leg pain come back. Just trying to build some strength now with the PT, which should help prevent these little accidents. As far as the MS-like stuff or spinal myelitis or whatever the dr wants to call it this week, I just have to tough it out. I'll have a few weeks of difficulty swallowing, then numbness, tingling, and itching on my back and legs, then a couple weeks of not knowing that I have to go to the bathroom until I really, really need to get to the bathroom! Happens a couple times a year for the last 15 years, but still no definitive diagnosis. I just laugh at drs now when they say they need to do another mri or something because I should be on some kind of meds.

Trish- so sorry about all the stress with the mix-up with your son and your daughter's surgery. Prayers for you all. I know you know this, but remember that God will only give you what you can handle and that His plan is perfect. Sometimes we just wish it was easier to figure out what that plan is

Top O the Morning

Its sprinkling this morning, thank heavens, it was getting so dry the dust has got my sinuses in an uproar. I'm actually hoping for harder rain, I never thought I would say that after the Spring and early Summer monsoon that we had here.

Joanne, Dearest, you are all in my prayers. Up north in my county we had some nasty flooding in early June and it devastated a lot of people that I know, so I certainly understand what you all are facing. Please know you are not alone.

Inky, I took my daughter with me up to run laps in the cemetery the other day and I made her ride her bike. There are some big hills and she started to complain that she couldn't do it so I told her to go park her bike by the Statue of Jesus and wait til I was done. She decided that was too boring so she finished the ride and was so excited that she could do it but more often than not her and Mr. Destruction both have a way of cramping my style. We started running laps around the yard and having races, that way if they get bored they can go do something else. We live on 3.2 acres, so we have a little space to move around on if we have no other choice.

Royal, , looks to me like you have done a fantastic job thus far of taking the weight off. Don't let external forces have control over you, you have worked too hard. You'll be in my prayers, I am a binger/purger, I know what that stress is like and I have to pray daily for the strength to not go back to that crutch, it does no good and serves only to destroy. If not for Gods guidance and comfort I would still be in the bathroom a dozen times a day throwing up and it would consume me, but I know if I give in to that feeling, that effectively I'm letting Satan win. He's the one that tells us, this will make us feel better, that its okay to substitute one vice for another if it gets us to quit the one, and on and on it goes. You are a strong woman, obviously, look at what you've accomplished! Stay strong and finish the race.

That's nice that you have that much space Trish! We live in the burbs on a little quarter acre, lol, so not a whole lotta running room here. Thankfully we live near lots of nice parks though.

Well the scale wasn't kind this morning, and I'm at the same weight as last week. After feeling deprived for a week, I'm disappointed. But I'll get over it, and try harder! I'm really determined this time! I have a friend who is morbidly obese, and she says she would kill to be my weight - that's really not helpful to me, because then I look at myself and think I could be happy where I'm at! But I know that I need to lose at least 20, and really I'd love to lose 30. I am thinking long term, that even though it's 'only' 20ish pounds now, that I'm 34 and it's not like I'm going to get thinner as I age, lol.

I understand the run around with college. We had everything set for our son and then we got the call. They wouldn't give him the things on his iep. There is no way he can do the classes without a scribe so now he isn't going to college. No reason to spend all that money when he won't be able to do what he needs to do. I feel so bad for him. He was so excited and looked so forward to going. We are looking into other things for him now. I am sure the good Lord will point us in the right direction.

Glad you are feeling better. Set backs do take us by surprise. All we can do is remember the good Lord will never give us more than we can deal with. Sometimes I know he knows me better than I know myself because I sure don't think I can deal with all he sets on my plate sometimes.

Nice going on your food choices. You tell the kids what I have always told mine lol. If Laura Ingles could handle the heat out on the prairie without air conditioning or fans they can too. They need to toughen up a bit lol. Do you remember when we were kids? Out weeding the garden for 6 hours, in the sun, 150 is the shade lol. We sure didn't complain or our parents would have found something even worse for us to do lol.

Hello and welcome. Life does funny things to us at times and we turn to things to help us through. If we are lucky, and I think all of us are because we are hear talking about trying to get our body's in better shape, we learn we need to let go of things so we can make our life easier. The good Lord never said life was going to be easy. He only said he would be beside us and help us along the way. I think this site is just one of the ways the Lord helps us. We have found each other to talk to and give and get encouragement from.

I am ok. am trying to get a few things done and it is taking me three times as long to do anything. You just know how I loveeeeeeee to take forever to do things lol. I keep a smile on my face instead of a cookie in my mouth lol.

I'm back safe and sound. The prep was awful, but the procedure went great (slept through the whole thing). It was the last test in the battery, so I am done with doctors for a while

Inky - good for you - your attitude will help you through this. I found that my weight didn't always go down every week either. A lot depended upon how salty the food I had been eating was, and how much exercise I was doing. More workouts = water retention = disappointing scale reading. Hang in there, it WILL go down. I remember Shy saying that she lost on two-week intervals. Two lbs, then zero, ....

Joanne - a good reminder to pray for our sisters and brothers that are suffering right now - thanks!

Ronni - prayers continuing for you! Hope the game goes well and that the weather isn't too hot. I hate football games in the heat, it is so hard on the kids!

My middle DS wants to go to the Air Force Academy and run. I have 2 years to bug every congressman I can for a referral, we'll see....

Inky, I know what you mean, I have a friend who is always telling me I'm perfect she doesn't know why I would want to lose weight. I told her she hasn't seen me in my b-day suit, or else she would know why. The fact is I don't feel good in this skin, I know where I need to be and I'm not too far off but if I am not comfortable then something has to change. If I was comfortable no matter what the mirror showed me I wouldn't care now would I?
