I was going to do a nice 6 mi run on the treamill this morning as it is raining outside. I got three miles and then my stupid treadmill just shut off!! That just made me so mad that I didn't feel like starting all over. I decided to go on to my weight training instead. I did legs and now my thighs are aching! Nothing like a good burn!
I have decided to purchase some good running sunglasses. Does anyone have any they would recommend? At the running store they range from $30 to over $100. I guess I could do a little research.
Does anyone else ever run on the treadmill at the gym? And what do you do when someone gets on next to you will a gallon of cologne or perfume on? That really makes me nausious.

Some of the people who use the treadmills at my gym smell sooooo bad, luckily they tend to turn up just as I'm finishing which gives me an excuse to leave!

i ran today as well on the treadmill. 2 miles only because today was strength training. however thankfully my gym in my apts only have 2 and they are far apart from each other. and usually i am the only one in there to begin with. its like having my own private gym!

I have been slacking on my running lately but when this girl I met at the gym handed me a flyer for an upcoming 5k race in our area I got my butt back in gear. Did 2.5 miles at the park tonight and it felt so good to be running outdoors again. made a date with my friend to do it again wednesday so now I am obligated. Hope everyone's week is starting off well!

signing up and actually PAYING for the event is what does it for me! once i do that i have it in my head that i am not going to waste that money and not run the event! good going and good luck!

my next race is not until Feb 25 and its a 10K..

good luck on the 10-k. completing one of those is my goal this year. i did several 5'ks last year plus a 5-miler at Thanksgiving so as long as I continue my progress I should be good to go!

I did 4.25 miles/40 minutes on the treadmill this morning. I try to make sure I sign up for stuff as soon as I see them so I can't talk myself out of it. I've got a 5k, a 10k and a half marathon in the diary booked and paid for, and I must get round to sending off a cheque for a 5 mile. I find it so much easier to train if I have something to work towards.

WOW! I did not even think of the slant of the road! My hip that hurt at first was the one on the higher point of road! thus more impact!?! `I only do about 2-3 km on the road (the rest is flat foot path) but next time i might run on the other side, see if it hurts the other side?
That also solves another question! A women here i know runs, she will run up the middle of ther road!? the other day i saw a car have to go past her, it ended up completely on the wrong side of the road to get around her, but she did not move! I really thought she was a rude... horrible... But maybe just maybe she was running in the flatest spot, and since the road is fairly empty, she probably thought, well yes the car can go around?

Congrates 2frustrated on the 25 min! keep your mind on the fact you can do it! i find when i start thinking negative, i just feel like stopping! but if i set goals as i go! like "make it to the bridge" then i get there then "get to the next corner" and each time i reach the spot, i am proud of myself and don't want to stop! and then before i know it i am home! and finished!

Ice- I pick targets too! Especially when I want to add a little sprinting to my running. I will pick my target and I'm always glad when I get there. It tends to keep my mind occupied, especially when I am having a hard time letting go of work and I don't really feel like running.

I registered my husband and I for the cowtown marathon last night. I think I have my mom and one of my sisters talked into walking the half marathon. Last year my twin sister flew in from Georgia to run with us. My husband's parents one of his brothers and one of his sisters are coming to watch us this year. It will be a family affair!

It always feels good to actually get signed up. My stomach is already getting butterflies with anticipation.

I tried to go out for an easy 6-7k this morning. But it was not to be. The weather here is terrible. It snowed overnight, but had changed to ice pellets in the early morning hours. So the path I usually run on was covered in what felt like sand underfoot. Which means slow going, but isn't fatal, especially on an easy run day. What really did me in was the ice pellets. Not so bad running with the wind, but when I go to a turn around on the path, it became incredibly painful being pelted in the face with ice. So I gave up and headed for home as directly as I could. Just under 4k total. Some days I really, really wish I had a decent treadmill at home. The ice pellets then turned to freezing rain and now rain. And temperatures are supposed to drop again tonight. Yay! Ice rink roads, sidewalks and paths. That should make tomorrow's scheduled tempo run lots of fun.

I got my number through for my half marathon today. I'm scared now!

! running in ice and snow! yikes! (here winter never gets to zero!) Today i had to miss my run, it is pouring rain! but the treadmill looks good to go for a slow 10k!

What sort of times do you do for a 5k and a 10k run outside? (i am just curious, coming from a non running famiy, i have no idea what is a usual time??) And what are winning times for a 5k and 10k race?

And how long is a marathon? or a half marathon? (I really don't know much about running!)

Yes I always wear running shoes on the treadmill--dangerous otherwise! If I am just running for fun/exercise I run 5-k (3.1miles) in under 30 min and 10-k around an hour..my best 5-k race time is 24:30, I think.

A marathon is 26.2 miles and a half is 13.1. Good luck on your running!

Today I did 2.5 miles on the treadmill ramping it up from 6.5mph to 8.0mph and back down again. Tomorrow, I get a leisurely run after work with a friend.
