kiwi--that is so terrible---one of my friend's daughters has a girlfriend whose 16 year old brother died in a car accident [a needless one,---two other cars were playing chicken on a deserted highway and he just happened to be driving by when they were trying to pass each other] long story short---this poor child is still devastated by her brother's death-----it is horrifying for the parents,but the poor siblings have a terrible time of it as well-----------------your sweet dd will do her best to help that's for certain----do you think it was heat exhaustion? take care,i know you will be busy helping out yourself xxoxoxox

eeeekkkkk. by 16 it seems we should be home free with these kids. can you imagine getting that phone call or knock on the door? the effect of the loss of a sibling is terrible because in a way, they lose a part of their parents, too.

I have a really old set of World Book that my friend at the bookstore gave me years ago because it was useless to sell. We've used it maybe three times because somethings never change. What should I do with it?

*take it?
*send it to friend's yard sale?
*toss it?

I can't make all these decisions alone.

Oh cripe! I just burned the daylights out of my teakettle (well, I wasn't going to stay in there waiting for it in this heat ) Damn.

I don't think they are sure exactly what happened to the boy; apparently they are going to do an autopsy. The kid who was hiking with him had gone on ahead (they had already reached the peak and were on their way down), and then doubled back to look for him. He wasn't where he had left him, and the rangers eventually found him. I'm not sure whether he had left the trail or what, but he obviously wasn't on the path down, so that indicates mental confusion due to dehydration or heat stroke or something. It's just heart-breaking.

We have an old World Book set too, Peaches. Personally I would keep it, just to have. I wouldn't dream of buying a new set of encyclopedias, but sometimes it's a good source for basic stuff.

But then, I keep everything, so what good is my advice?

My rule about books is that you should never get rid of them. They don't ever go out of style like clothes, or furniture. Other than that, I can't give you moving advice. I've only moved once in the last 25 years. Now we'd never be able to move. It would take a year to pack up DH's barn full of stuff.

Did this poor boy have an unknown health problem, heart disease? It is devastating to the siblings. My DH's brother was killed at 17 when he was thrown out of a jeep. DH still has a hard time talking about it and it's been over 20 years now.

I do remember when she was fat. Of course, she was fat in a tv newreporter/celebrity way. You know, she probably crept up to a size 10.

I was down 1.8 pounds at the weigh in yesterday. Grand total -------drum roll please----- 15.8 pounds. That's in 7 weeks. I'm feeling pretty darn

It concerns me that some of us have journals, yet seldom write anything in them. I want some of your innermost ponderings written down. I want to read some dirt. I want intrigue. Accountants with spinach pies.

Re children's friends dying... I don't think we're ever "safe" as parents. No matter how old we are (or they are), we don't want them to be sick, unhappy or in any kind of pain. Even though I've survived lots of losses, I don't ever want to face that.

The scale was down this morning. Hooray. All that sweating is paying off... (the stomach rumbling, too).
Only about a billion more pounds to go.
