  • Good morning, everyone!

A cold Sunday morning here in the PNW... I'll have to scrape ice before I head off to church! Brrrrrrrr

Jess, I have always been told I look much younger than I am, even when I lived in Missouri when I was younger. I have also lived in hot places such as Manila Philippines and Fort Lauderdale FL (as well as Oregon). I do, however, LOVE the rain and am out in it every chance I get. Also, I don't like sun and heat so avoid it when I can... you'll never find me lying out in it, so that probably makes a difference.

I did a one-hour pool workout yesterday, then some time in the spa. Did the same Friday so my workouts have been good this weekend.

    Have a beautiful Sunday, everbody
  • Happy Sunday rosey
  • Hi goldies,
Back from our camping trip. Phew. That was work. I'm exhausted. Dh and I unloaded a 18 ft trailer load of wood. Redid a shelf. Put wrap around stands. Cooked supper for friends Friday night. Barbecued for friends Saturday night. Fixed ladder on stand Sunday. Cleaned camp Sunday. Removed entertainment center and added bed. Loaded up and came back home only to load another trailer with wood to be brought next weekend. We ran out of gas for log splitter is the only reason we didn't split another load. Too tired to go into town for more gas. We had so much food left over. We divided it and froze some. Took our shower and was asleep for 7. We were tired. Next weekend our neighbors are cooking the weekend. Might be able to relax. Today I have a ton of laundry. We had a cold front come thru during the night. Should be cool this week. Ready for winter. Maybe we will get rid of the Mosquitos.

Misti~I wouldnt know what it's like to get up and have to scrape snow. I'm sure it's a pain. We very seldom get snow flurries in Louisiana. Misti I saw on your ticker that you've lost 67 lbs. How long did it take you to lose that? You're doing well on your diet.

karenfl~did you get our cold weather yet. Hope it reaches you in Florida.

Carbi~you are one busy lady. I also love chicken veg soup. It's been very good with my diet. Lots of protein and vegs with no carbs and fats. I'm like you I also hate milk. I eat yogert. Hope my ones don't pay for it when I'm older.

    Hello to all I missed.
    Hugs
    Cajun

Donna~ are you talking about chili powder that we use in Mexican dishes? That's very interesting.
  • Hi Goldens-

Welcome Misti - you do look so young and cute. I hope that's the new 65!
Carbie - are you sure you're 50? You work so hard!
DH and I had a great weekend with DS in D.C. Driving to Savannah now, almost there for meeting of DH's retirement group. Hope we have fun. Then drive back to D.C. And a few more days with DS. If its not fun I would head back to see DS early... But I don't think he'd appreciate it. His social life you know. But some of the young people he works with are going back to their hometowns early for Thanksgiving. Speaking of which, how are we going to get through Thanksgiving?! Hugs to all!
  • Hi all...just breezing thru with a couple of wise a&& remarks. Cajun that cold front came and went...back to 3 H weather....Deelee visiting parents is better than birth control and Misti ....I plan on using left over turkey thread to sew my lips shut......k3

ps Donna thank you and good work getting info about Lynn
  • Save some turkey thread for my mouth too K3. Yesterday we planned our Thanksgiving menu. We'll all get together at my sister's house, she has lots of room to entertain. So do we but we're out of town and both my brothers/sisters live in the same town. Anybody putting up Christmas decorations yet? I usually put them up around Thanksgiving. The realtors want to have another open house at the end of November so I'll spruced up the house for that . I'm going to cut some limbs off one of our blue spruce trees for some garland and I purchased some 50 bulb Christmas lights at Walmart. I learned last year that the 50 light packages go fast.
You gals with all the energy are making me tired. Think I'll get my jammies on and get ready for dancing with the stars. Two are going home tonight.
    TaTa

  • Turkey thread? Do you sew your turkey shut after stuffing? My mother always did that and I do it too. But DH decided that it bothers him and made me buy skewers to close up the turkey. I hate them. They don't work for me. I'm going back to thread. LOL One time a few years ago I was getting ready to stuff the turkey. I threaded the needle, then I couldn't find it. I made DH come in and help me look for it. Finally found it, in the bowl of stuffing!!! If I had said "Heck with it" and got out another needle and thread, someone would have gotten a needle in a mouthful of stuffing. Come to think if it, maybe that's why he wants me to use the skewers. LOL
  • These days are so busy I haven't had time to post recently. Misty, I am also in WA and I don't mind the rain although I don't spend much time out in it. My dh hates it so we plan to leave for a while each winter...didn't get to do it last winter but plan to this winter. Until last year we traveled to warmer climate for about three months each year but we sold our RV last year, so now we will just leave for a shorter period of time. As long as he gets away for a little here and there I think he'll be ok. Last winter was very mild anyway. I'd be happy staying home the whole winter although I do like to travel any time of year.

I'm still seeing PT for my back. Sometimes I think it's helping, but not sure....I can't tell by the pain (which I still have at times), because it always goes away in time. I am having MORE discomfort/pain in my neck and head though. Not sure what's up with that. The exercises are really keeping me busy plus going to the gym. Also we babysat from Fri-Mon. That was the longest we have had the kids. They did fine but mama said they were awful tired when they got home so guess we let them stay up too late (9 pm). They are very early risers no matter when they go to bed. So I'm learning. They are sure good kids though. Today is gs birthday (6).

No time for personals again, but "Hi!" to everyone!!
  • Dang....the one morning I take time to respond to everyone and ZIP, IT'S GONE.
No time left, we have an appointment this morning with a new rep for health insurance...sorry folks.
  • Good morning goldens,
39 degrees this morning. Chilly and loving it. It's supposed to be nice this weekend. Rifle hunting for deer opens this weekend so I will be on a deer stand this weekend. So peaceful. Love it. I have a short walk back to my 4 wheeler in the dark. Not loving that. Maybe dh will drop me off and come back to get me. We are going to my sister and bil for supper tonight.
Ds through us for a loop Monday night. He quit his job. I wasn't really surprised though. He had been upset since he came home from Wyoming. He was exhausted also. He worked 12 to 16 hours a day with 1 day off every 25 days for 3 months. He came home and they worked him every day 16 hours a day with no days off. Everyone is quitting so the ones that are there are way overworked. They take more work than they have techs to do the work. He talked to his boss about getting off the road and going in house and doing normal hours with weekends off he told him that there was nothing available now. He went down the road and got the job he wanted with another company. Same pay. Normal hours. Same benefits. He told his boss yesterday and he offered ds off the rest of the year for him to stay. He said no that's not why he was leaving. His boss told him he hoped he didn't like it and would be back within 2 weeks. He said anytime you want to come back call me. He said he understood his reason for leaving. I was glad he did it in a respectable way and didn't burn his bridges. He shook hands and thanked him. So he starts tomorrow with the new company. He also said they wanted him to go back to Wyoming and he wasn't going. Ds is a very hard worker and is not afraid of work but I think Wyoming took a toll on his nerves. I have never seen him so exhausted like he is and he's young. They have very few techs left. They all quit. Instead of hiring more they keep taking in more work and running down the techs they have. There is only so much a person can stand I guess.
For the last 3 months I've been playing with my diet. I go up and down 2 lbs. Well last week I gained 6 lbs. This week I lost 4 of those but I'm still up 3 lbs from my lowest of 202.5. I knew I needed to get a grip on my eating or I would lose control. Camping has been hard and I knew it would. Holidays are coming too and they say the average person gains 7 lbs. Can't do that. I think I have my head back on my plan. I'm feeling better than I was. I was feeling tired and bloated. It's funny how after losing weight I can feel the slighest weight gain. So we'll see if I can do this again.my ticker is not right but I refuse to move it. I'm at 205.5. Let's hope my ticker moves down.

Mary~ I'm sorry to hear your back is still giving you trouble. Hang in there. Where do you and dh travel to for the winter? Sounds like fun.
Carolsue~ really glad y'all found that needle! We don't stuff our turkeys here. We deep fry them. Really moist. This thanksgiving we will be frying 4 turkeys. Not fattening(much) lol

Bobbi~ my ds is getting her Xmas decorations ready. I'm not yet. But I will soon.
Karenfl~ good idea sewing lips shut. Hope you get our cool weather. It's nice.

Dee~ when you figure out how we are going to get thru thanksgiving let me know. The hardest part for me is dessert. I could eat the turkey skip the rest of the side dishes and go to dessert.

    Hello to all I missed

  • Yeah, what's up with K3 and myself losing our posts? I don't spend that much time posting to begin with, then losing it when I do make the attempt ticks me off.
Our menu sounds pretty much like Rosie's except for all the desserts, my sister is bringing a couple of pies. Since we have sooooooooo many butternut squash, I'll bring that plus some really good dinner rolls made with butternut squash. They are super soft and moist. We're having ham and turkey and my SIL recipe for stuffing. It's made with mashed potatoes and the stuffing turns out delicious, not so heavy with just bread in it. Don't know what kind of cold side dish DD is bringing, salad of some sorts. Anybody try the caramel corn made with puff pop corn? It's to die for, Bruce and I can't leave it alone. Yes girls, I know what you're thinking, heavy scale at my house. I'm now up 9 pounds instead of 7. My mind just isn't there yet, that is to count calories. I'm in my fat jeans at the moment, whats a girl to do. Where's that turkey thread?
  • Those Thanksgiving menus really look good!

Rosie - You have such a varied menu. One year I cooked 2 18# turkeys for 11 people! LOL They were on sale so cheap and my family likes to take leftovers home! I like cooking 2 turkeys because then I get more dark meat which most of my family likes and it's a shorter cooking time. Also, I sometimes make 2 kinds of stuffing. This year my step-daughter is getting a 12 # turkey from work, so I am going to buy another 12 # and I think that will be more than enough for 11 of us.

Cajun - Oh I just swooned over that southern menu. How I wish I lived in the south! I would weight 400 lbs, at least! I bought an electric indoor turkey fryer from QVC but we have never used it. I'm afraid of it. For one thing, I would rather use it out on the deck in case of an accident but it's too cold here on Thanksgiving to be cooking outside. Second, it says it takes 5 hours to let the oil cool after your done cooking, and I wouldn't have anyplace to have it sitting to cool with so much company in the house. One of these days, if we have a warm spell for Thanksgiving, I will have either my step-son or SIL come over early and man the fryer so we can have one of our turkeys fried.

    My menu is basic.

    Turkey with bread stuffing
    Kielbassa (it's a Burg thing!)
    mashed potatoes
    sweet potatoes(from my SIL)
    cranberry sauce
    broccoli casserole (from my SIL)
    corn
    rolls and biscuits
    pumpkin pie
surprise desserts from my step-daughter and DIL

I usually make one different recipe to try out on the family every year, but this year I have nothing. My kitchen/cooking space is limited because my house is small. I really love when the whole house smells like turkey roasting!
