  • Quote: I haven't had someone pump gas for me years! Can't even remember when.
The ONLY time I ever have gas pumped for me is when I go to NJ--it's required there by law. Non-gas station employees are actually not allowed to pump their own gas. I didn't know this the first time I tried to get gas in Jersey, and the attendant came and shooed me away from the pump and practically yelled at me
  • Jill, that's hilarious. I bet that happens to out of staters all the time. What do they think will happen if you pump it yourself? Do they check your oil for you too like in the old days?
  • currently in central wisconsin we are paying 3.09 , ick makes me wish for the 2.00 range again. and I used to think that was high

People in Jersey are also very rude.

Where in NOVA do you live? I'm originally from Centreville/Fairfax County. I miss the DC area.
  • Gas prices... vary between $2.99 and $3.09 here.
  • It's been holding at $3.02 for the last few days, but I'm sure it will start going up for the holiday next week.

I actually currently work in Fairfax and live in Alexandria, but I'm the opposite of you--I can't wait to move AWAY from this area! The cost of living and traffic are enough to scare away anyone who's not originally from the area

Our gas has gone down slightly--it's below $3 pretty consistently now outside of the city--I'm assuming it's higher in the city, though. I'm crossing my fingers it doesn't skyrocket for the 4th next week...
  • our's droped to 283 latley im quite pleased LOL

Hmm... how long have you lived there? And where are you originally from?

I was raised in Manassas, lived in Centreville for awhile, then lived in NW DC, which was FANTASTIC. But you're right - the cost of living is terribly expensive - what do you expect? NOVA is one of the top richest areas in the nation.

Here's what I LOVE and MISS about it:
DC had so much to do. I was involved with everything - music, art, theatre, activism... I had so many awesome friends, met so many amazing people, and people up there have passion... people down here seem to have apathy, but I've realized it's also just a different attitude on life. I was very into the riot grrrl scene, which is still booming in DC, but nonexistant here. Raves are illegal down here, too. I miss the punk scene. I miss the coffee shops. I miss the open mic nights. I miss real artists - adults who made a living off their art and were passionate about it - those don't happen here in G'ville, FL - this is a college town full of rich kids who have never lived, shallow people, fraternities, sororities, and everything I dislike. I miss interesting people with substance...

I could go on and on about how much I love DC, but I'm going to zip it now. There are parts of Florida I love, too - Cocoa Beach, Fort Lauderdale, The Keys... I'm just not fond of Gainesville.

But alas, I don't see myself moving back there anytime soon, because it IS way too EXPENSIVE! I can barely afford FLORIDA, let alone DC. Haha.
  • Ha, Jill...that happened to me when I went to Oregon. The guy looked at me like I was crazy for getting out to pump my own gas, lol.

Gas is back up again here...went from $3.05 yesterday to $3.25 today, ugh! I should have gotten some yesterday...oh well. Thank goodness I have a small vehicle.
  • Here in Kansas city I paid 2.99 yesterday and it is $3.09 today. I'm glad that I put 50 in last night instead of blowing it off and waiting.
  • I thought I was getting a bargain at $2.73 (most places still say $2.80) and as I passed by a truck stop IN TOWN it read $2.70. My corner is still selling for $2.85 just outside of Phoenix.
  • i know i posted awhile back that we were at 3.09 just before the fourth now we are at 3.39 yuck yuck yuck Got to love Wisconsin gas prices some of the higher around from what i have been noticing. (in Central Wisconsin)
  • Here in Nebraska we have a fuel emergency because of a flood in Kansas, so we are either the highest, or second highest in the nation, depending on the current price in Hawaii.. In places it's about $3.50 a gallon. It's just lovely!! Really it just sucks!!! I would love to be back at $2.75, I would probably do a little dance at the pump! Go buy myself new shoes for the money I saved on gas!!

Unfortunately, the fuel companies know we feel this way, which is why gas will likely NEVER go back to the normal prices of less than $2/gallon. They keep jacking the prices up and up and up and see that the consumption levels do NOT go down, so now we've shown them we're willing to pay almost anything. It really sucks how they completely take advantage of our current lifestyles to make more of a profit on our relying on our cars.
