Good morning all. Wow -- lots of posts and sadly so many of us are really struggling. Hope since I'm late in posting today that things are looking up for everyone.
Sam -- Hope things are looking up for you. Please don't let the mental image of what society tells us should be perfect bodies influence how you feel about yourself because of the excess skin. You are so young that you may find that some of that skin tightens up given a year. And, as everyone suggested, waiting until the post-baby period is definitely for the best. Lots of good suggestions about surgery options. But unless it's giving you medical problems -- which then it definitely needs to be taken care of -- please focus on you. You have turned your life around, you have overcome so much from your childhood, and you always have a kind word for everyone here. When I've struggled with depression over my body, I've asked myself if I want to be remembered for a rockin' body (which is hard to visualize for a 66 year old woman) or as a kind person. And it's always as a kind person.
Fi -- Yes, arthritis in both knees, hips and back. What helps? Even the little weight that I've lost has made a difference. Staying away from sugar makes a huge difference (cuts down on the inflammation). And taking pain relievers helps some. I exercise 5 days a week and have started adding stretching exercises which have made a noticeable difference. I have numerous friends who have had knee replacement surgery and all swear by it. Bill had both hips replaced in 2014 and it's changed his life. I have a friend who has had her hip replaced 3 times (originally needed to be done because of a horrible car accident) and she's very active. The only caveat is that everyone who has had a "successful" surgery outcome says that doing the PT religiously is important and that the PT will hurt. Don't know if that helps. I'm dedicated to getting weight off this year, and if my knees still hurt this much, then I'm getting new ones. We deserve to live pain free.
Porthardygurl -- Switching up diet plans seems to help, and maybe it's time to try something different. If you've had success with low calorie, go back to that. I watch calories, carbs, and fat using MyFitnessPal. I'm also on Intermittent Fasting which seems to work best for me. Unless you're working out for hours each day, exercise will not help that much with weight loss. It will help with toning and general overall health, but weight loss comes more from our food intake. Hang in there. There was one chick on here a couple of years ago that was within a couple of pounds of getting below 200, and she hit a 2 month plateau. It happens and it's hard to deal with.
Tootsie -- Hope you're having a good time in Florida!
Kswizzle -- Welcome! Do you wonder sometimes if doctors think before prescribing meds? If the side effect is making you want to eat everything in sight, definitely ask for something else. It is a battle, but good for you for realizing it at this age and doing something about it -- something I wish I'd done a lot sooner!
Ubee -- Good going on having a social event and doing ok. Now get past the Super Bowl and we'll head into another week. We can do this!
Calda -- Good luck with the weigh in. The important thing is that you're trying. Hopefully you'll get some positive reinforcement for your efforts.
Cindy -- So sorry you don't feel well. One of those low grade fevers and a headache are the pits -- just bad enough that we feel awful but not bad enough to warrant just staying in bed all day. Hope you're feeling better by now.
Donna -- You've got me laughing again. I love your statement that losing 9 pounds in the last month is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. I'd have to agree with you on that one! I think you're definitely on to something with the dancing. Don't you think half the exercise battle is just finding an activity that is fun at the same time? Sounds like with your weather right now you're getting in swimming at the pool and swimming through the landscape.
Well, I slipped and had a bunch of bubble gum gum balls yesterday -- don't ask......yes, I should have outgrown them by now. Today the arthritis hurts from the sugar, I'm bloated enough that I could be in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade as a balloon float, and I'm wondering why I keep doing this to myself. Anyone else struggle with losing and then thinking that you have some wiggle room. Since I'm still well over 300 pounds, that requires a lot of wiggle room! Back at it today. I was beginning to feel so much better there for a couple of days, and I know what I need to do.
I got the taxes done yesterday and will straighten up the house today before watching the Super Bowl. Or at least flipping it back and forth to see what the score is. Hope everyone has a good day!
