Karen3 - Do you remember the movie "Play Misty for Me?" I loved that movie.

Have you ever tried Glucosemine and Condroiten for that knee? It takes about a month to start working but it works wonders for me! A lot of people try it for a week and say "It didn't help." Sometimes, when I haven't been taking it, my knee bothers me at night and I can only sleep with my knee bent.

Sorry to hear about your friend's flooding. I can honestly say that I have never experienced any flooding, long power outages etc. Anytime our power went out it was never longer than several hours. I've always lived too high for flooding, although I've seen it in my home town, down by the Yough river. Maybe I should be knocking on wood!

Good Morning...it's so warm here that I'll hang out a load of towels today. Last January I hung out clothes to dry too. Must be global warming?
Tonight's supper is going to be a baked whole chicken, we eat it for a couple nights in a row, then make chicken soup out of the rest of it. I like to strip the meat off the bones after the first meal, cook the bones and skin down with some bay leaves and spices for the broth. If some of you haven't tried that, you get almost fat free broth after peeling off the fat the next morning. (refrigerate overnight). Swanson's can't come close to the wonder flavors of homemade broth. I wish I could come up with a low calorie stuffing to go with the chicken tonight, unfortunately real butter is the key. My DD told me to try mixing real butter with coconut oil to lower the bad effects of cholesterol loaded butter. I have some mixed up right now and it's not too bad. Coconut oil doesn't have a taste, that's why it works. We have tons of butternut squash, that too benefits from real butter. How many of you girls use real butter?

On that thought, think I'll get DH to clean out the chicken and get it ready while I go fill in the cracks on my face and put a load of laundry in the washer.

Hey goldies,
I'm packing. That's what I do on Fridays. Laundry!! Just dh and I this weekend. Our sons are working. Finally youngest ds is settling down from being in Wyoming for 3 months. He wanted to see his family friends and camp and hunt all at the same time. Lol there wasn't enough hours in the day to do what he wanted. Work stopped all that. He has to work the weekend. But isn't complaining because it here and not in Wyoming.
Diet is going horrible. I just keep snacking on stuff I'm not supposed to have. No control. Help!!!

Misti~ you are a very pretty lady. You certainly don't look 65 years old. What kind of diet are you following? Lol I was up at 2:30 worrying about what I needed to pack for our camping trip. I fell back to sleep around 5 when the clock went off.
Bobbi~ I use real butter. Seems like recipes just come out better with the real thing.

Laundry is ready to be folded. Gotta run!

Good morning Goldies,
I haven't been in to post for a few days because I've been busy.
The contractors started on my porch this week, and today came and told me that the inspector came by and told them that they can't put my new steps where the old ones were. New rule in town. Too close to the sidewalk. So, they have to take out the existing door and close that area in with windows, move the new steps to the end of the porch and have a solid door that opens IN to the porch. Can't have a door opening out over the steps. the contractors aren't charging me any extra for labor, just for materials, which is only 300 to $400.00 more, so, not too bad. Just will delay the work on the back of the house. Maybe will have to wait till spring for that. It's suppose to be very warm today, but then it's suppose to get down into the high 20's or low 30's, so I don't know as they'll be able to be laying on that cold ground under the house and digging etc.
If not, then they can do the indoor work I guess.

Welcome Misty and for some reason I thought there was another new member, but can't remember her name.

A couple days ago I made some chicken vegetable soup and it is soooo good. I also made some home made tomato basil soup, which I haven't had in too long, and I've been in 7th Heaven. Yesterday I thickened a little of the chicken vegetable soup and put it on potatoes cooked with the skins on and it was so delicious. Yummers.
Bobbi, I use butter when it's on things like bread, pancakes etc. But, for cooking or frying I always use olive oil. When it comes to milk, I DO NOT like it, so, when I HAVE to use it, I use the fat free dried milk and mix it to the strength I want. I only drink milk a couple times a year, and then it has to be skim milk and very cold. I will eat yogurt and I love cheese, so I guess I get my dairy in somehow. I take a multivitamin in the fall and winter months so I get a little extra calcium that way.
Your roasted chicken sounds good. It's that time of year, isn't it?

I better go. Guys are working on the porch and I want to see how they're doing it. Maybe I can pick up some knowledge for future use.

Hello again, everyone, and thanks for the welcomes.

Cajun, thank you for your kind compliments. I am not following any diet plan; just eating a lot of fruit and veggies, very little meat, and avoid processed foods as much as possible... try to avoid chemicals, GMO tainted foods, fake sugar, etc. Since I have degenerative arthritis in my hip my exercise is limited but I belong to LA Fitness and swim and do water workouts a lot. My doctor said recently that it is okay to go walking if I use two canes, so I have started doing that lately... I used to walk/run for miles. Of course getting the weight off is helpful with that.

Oh and I got "Misti in Seattle" because I live in Seattle and absolutely LOVE the rain... so my friend told me I had to be "Misti in Seattle." I liked it, so I kept it. It's not my real name.

Good Morning, All.

Little dopey this morning. I was asleep by 8 p.m. last night and woke up at 7 a.m.... must have been tired!! SamCat is a happy cuddler all night long.

Since it's getting to be cold and flu season, here's a little something I found. No guarantees, of course:
"Mexican Apache Cold Cure
by I.M. Crisosto Pena, daughter of Crisosto Pena, and the great great granddaughter of Geronimo.
My father, Crisosto Pena, a Mexican Apache, believed that chile could cure anything. He said that it was packed full of vitamins and therefore a cure-all, especially for colds.
One day he returned from work and found his wife and five children in bed with the flu. He felt so bad for them that he took out the bag of hot chile pods and soaked them in hot water for 15 minutes. Then he put them into a grinder and ground them with the water they were soaked in. He gave each one of his family members a spoonful with a piece of tortilla. About an hour later the family was moving about. The children were out playing around, and his wife was cooking dinner.
From that day on, I too believe that chile is a cure-all, especially for colds. As a preventive medicine, you can mix the chile with garlic and onions. It not only tastes good, but also keeps colds away.
The Mexican Apache Cold Cure is said to be an excellent treatment for early onset of a cold or flu."

Nothing to report. We have heavy clouds and, of course, the damn WIND. I don't think we're supposed to get much accumulation (so sayeth the WeatherFools) but it's supposed to be COLD this weekend. I made a big batch of potato soup the other night, so I'll be fine, just gorking inside the house.
