  • Wow...5'4.5", ~150 lb. out of high school, eating out sophomore year up to 165, suddenly up to 190 in a year, training for a 5K then half marathon....this is my story! Except I'm at the ~190 mark right now, just starting training for a 5K with hopes to do a local half marathon in October 2011. Thanks for this story, I needed it as I (re)start my journey!
  • It is really important o have goals but you must have the determination and you know how to discipline yourself.
  • I can relate to the before
I definitely can relate to the comment about the wedding pictures. When I was married, I was at a very high weight (OK, 230- everyone else is being honest, so I will be too) , and although everyone told me I looked good, all I saw was the double chin and the big arms. I actually never even gave any of my family or friends any copies of my professionally taken pictures.

The marriage is over now, not related to weight-different story entirely, but I am joining this site because I am ready for a change too. I seriously could never think of putting the word marathon and my name in the same sentence, but we do have a 5 mile footrace in my hometown every spring called the Icebreaker. I usually walk the 3 mile. I am so not a runner, like seriously NOT, but I think it could be good to train to run the Icebreaker next year. Thanks for the inspiration.

Yep, that's pretty much how I felt, too. I felt like every photo just focused on all the flub and chub!

I was SO not a runner, either. I hadn't run since my freshman year of high school, so almost 15 years, and I'm pretty sure I failed the mile test when I did.
