  • Another question for u ladies. The pure protein bars I bought have a whopping 31 carbs in a bar. Granted, I only eat half of one at a time so it would be 15 carbs..but that seems like alot of carbs. Half a bar also has 15 protein. Should I steer clear of these?

    How many of the carbs are sugar alcohols and how many are fiber?
  • Fiber -2....sugar alcohol-19
  • subtract out the fiber and sugar alcohols for the "carb count" that you need to worry about. So-you're fine-10g carbs/bar and you're only eating half. Some people are bothered by sugar alcohols-I am, thankfully, not one of them. I love a little treat now and them of a piece of a See's sf dark choc bar . . .

  • That many sugar alcohols would bother me if I ate the whole thing (even before WLS), but half at a time would be fine. You don't even want to be in the same room with me if I've had a day where I'd eaten TWO sugar alcohol filled protein bars!
  • i agree - as long as you're eating only half at a time, it looks like you have a winner here!

    and also agree about watching the sugar alcohols. you might not be bothered, but sometimes, depending on the other stuff that you eat, that could change.

    a rule of thumb that helped me at your stage: don't eat anything that has more carb grams than protein grams. and this protein bar fits the bill!
