  • Quote: How can you think it isn't due to Ike? Ike and Gustav created gas shortages all through the southern states....they have to be replenished somehow. You don't think that a gas shortage in the southern states effects you? Wrong.

Just because the price per barrel went down yesterday, there are still many, many places that are without fuel and until they are replenished, we're going to be seeing it at the pump. It's all about supply and demand. There is the same demand, and less supply....

Be thankful that you're only paying 3.45....

I'm in Southern Louisiana and paying 3.99.
I agree. I think something like 10 oil platforms were damaged or destroyed in the gulf near Houston. With refining all but stopped in the area (where the majority of our oil is refined), how could that not cause an increase?

I think we're around $3.68 here in Denver.

10 oil platforms is nothing compared to how many are in the Gulf. It's less than 1% of the total number. That being said, there was still a lot of refineries offline during Ike and Gustav and while the refineries are coming back online in a pretty timely fashion - a lot lost only a day - there are some that will take more time.

Still, a day in production causes a big supply shortage.

I figure by the end of the month, the prices at the pump will start to reflect the price per barrel. YAY!!! I can't wait to be able to actually be able to stick to our gas budget and not have to dip into the miscellaneous budget!
  • Quote: There are federal programs to stop gougers. Google it and see what you come up with. They will face hefty fines for doing so.
I know, and they should. I understand that the hurricanes caused gas shortages, but when the day before IKE hit their (and only theirs since the WAWA across the street was 3.59) gas prices went to 4.99 (that was Friday and IKe did not hit until that night) and then it dropped to 3.47 on Saturday (WHAT?????) then they went back up to 4.93 yesterday and now 4.99 again. Wow, that is something right there. What astounds me is i still see people getting gas over there when WAWA is at 3.79 across the street. Those people are just as nuts.
  • At the end of August, our gas was $4.24 - $4.29. In September, the state suspended the $.08/gal tax for a year. We're now paying $4.19. And this from the state that provides you crude oil!
