  • Morning ladies! Have reached the apex of a long weekend. It is nice and quiet out there today (so far); unlike yesterday. This is "Caribana" weekend here and all the festivities (Huge costumed parade with massive crowds) happen just on the other side of the fair grounds down the street. DH and I had reservations at a restaurant at 7 and we ended up having to walk completely out of the neighbourhood because all the streetcars were so packed with people they weren't even stopping for pickups. We walked up to major intersection – same deal… so we grabbed a cab. Dinner was at this little Bistro I had gone to a couple of months ago and just loved – but last night it was just ok. Maybe the chef was off for the long weekend? Dunno. I'm willing to give it one more try. Disappointing because I wanted to take DH there thinking he would love it.

Not doing much today. I might go for a bike ride later this morning. I'll have to check the city websites to see which areas are not going to be overrun with tourists.

Mel~ Good work in getting rid of some clutter. It is hard to get rid of things that were given as gifts. Sorry to hear of the return of the Rosacea. Ok, so if the coffee makes it worse, what does that mean about coffee? I know it's hard when something we love isn't good for us. But really is it worth that? Of course this is only something you can decide. Sometimes the answer is yes, isn't it? It always amazes me that people start moving into buildings that are still under construction. Shouldn't they be worried about just the kind of situation you describe? BTW, the building across the street is almost all gone. Thanks for the 4-wheeler offer! Don't tempt me.

Holly~ Coffee on the porch and peace and quiet sounds like a lovely way to start the day. Sorry about DH and the interview. Don't let him get discouraged. being turned down for a job is never personal. It just means he isn't what they were looking for. I know what it is like to live with someone who has issues with asking for what he is worth. Good luck with it. I too think you should apply for the job. It doesn't hurt to apply. It is hard to always have to be the driving force, isn't it? But someone has to do it. We are raised and society tells us that we'll find someone to look after us – quite the eye opening when we get to the realization that we are our own Prince Charmings, eh?

Sorry little break as Maggie came looking for love. Maggie is the cat in my avatar. She's sweet but very persistent.

Shad~ Good luck on the tax thingie. I have to do some bill sorting and such too. If I wait until year-end it is going to be a big mess. have you firmed up any more travel plans? What are the latest thoughts? I'm always astounded by the logicistics you are able to manage with the moves and relocations. Good luck you your DS on his move. How exciting. I hope you can manage to stay connected when you are out in the "wilds". Hey maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised? Have fun at the gym and do a couple of K for us, will you? Funny, but your description of the information gathering you have to do in this job reminds me of many places I have worked. It's not the info isn't there, it's just knowing who to ask (especially when you are new) is the hard part. More companies need some sot of brain dump policy where everything gets documented and then that information gets managed. The dumping in fairly easy (that's where my sort some in) but it's the managing that is a big issue for most places. It's rare anyone gets that right. And of course, some people don't want to tell you what they know out of fear that once the info is common knowledge their leverage on their jobs is gone. You aren't alone. Hang in there. As you said, it will get to be fun eventually.

Happy ~ Good article and that you for posting it. Gosh, it sounds simple, doesn't it? You know, Gabby Reece was one of my heroes back in the 80s. When all women were stick figures, there was Gabby 6 foot tall, muscular and curvy and beautiful. She made weight lifting acceptable to a lot of women. Personally I struggle most with the stress thing, but I'm working on it. Good for you in the measuring weighing thing, which you don't have to post. And yes, we will get through this, one pound at a time. Oh and gesundheit.

    Ceejay~ Have a fun trip.

    Meadow~ Love the dancing chick!
  • Morning ladies,

I got up early today - frequent sneezes will do that. Part of me was not happy but thusfar I had 2 coffees, enjoyed a sit in the yard watching the birds feed, swept the patio, watered the flowers, separated and started the laundry so ok - maybe there is something to this getting up early stuff

Good talking with you yesterday Shad. I finally learned how to dial long distance - REALLY long distance It's amazing to me to just pick up the phone and dial half way around the world and it sounds like you are across the street. Did you get that lawm mowed after all?

That's unfortunate that the restaurant meal turned out to be a dud Madcat. Like you said, give it one more chance. Your Caribana sounds like our New Orleans Mardi Gras - one of those things best observed from up on the patio with a cool drink

Sorry to hear the Roseacea is bothering you again Mel. Did I understand that coffee has crept back in your life again Have to find you a decent substitute.

Ok, well I've got to run. DH is trying to do something with Excel spreadsheets and he is "talking me through" what he's doing so he can figure out the problem. I should go play the nice wifey and listen to him even tho it's not something I'd rather hear at the moment
  • Remember Me?
Hi Everyone....... hope all the worldly chicks are well and smiling around the globe. Yes, I have been trying to keep up with you but not showing my face much...... sorry. What a summer! I just returned from the Flathead where my nephew got married. Both of my boys stood up with him and to see them in tuxs and looking so handsome was really special. The time was all too short but so great to see so many people. It was also very special because I was able to spend time with girlfriends and get people together and we had a ball.
I was able to relax because I had a friend come up and try to keep my plants and some of my yard alive in this heat. Back to the grind stone next week......... I am taking on a private care patient too.....need some prayers for this task......
I will imput more information later..... and I am climbing back on the get fit wagon with more zeal.......... Don't know what was going on with my body or hormones but I am determined to put one foot in front of the other and be encouraged by all of you....
    HEy to alll

  • A little thought for Monday morning~
"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."
    -Ralph Waldo Emerson

I know I can use it to stay on my plan tomorrow. I am going back to the 6 week body makeover of Michael Thurmond again. Why do I keep leaving it and eating donuts????
Had a great day. The box of tossing is stuffed and I even cleaned out the file cabinet!! Shredded too!!
I read a health article in a mag last night. It said a Dr at some University hospital was prescribing Allegra to his rosacea patients. I got Allegra last month and it didn't help the sinus but I started taking it today to see if it helps the face! Would be funny if it did huh? Then I could have my Allegra and one Starbuck's!!! Kinda like having your "pills" and "drinking" it too???

Madcat~ I have many styles to choose from moped: So don't be shy! Sorry the dinner wasn't 100% ......I do so love when I see your use of "DH"
Somehow it makes me happy. My driver Willy says I should go over the the condo place and ask if they are having a "fire sale". He said even I might be able to afford one now PS~ I love having one bottle of Starbuck's Frappuccino @ day. Now I ask you...is this to much to ask?

Happy~ I feel so bad you have a summer cold. YUCK!!
Sneezing is no fun!! It hurts my chest! lol BUT...not only did you get up early, look at all you got done sick and all!!!
You must have had a really long string to reach that far for Shad!!! so glad someone called her back!!!
    Feel better!

Nae~ WOW!!! i am shocked to see you and happy too!! Sounds like a good and busy Summer time for you! Glad you got to see so many people too. always makes the time go right. getting back to basics seems to be what we are all doing this month. good luck too. Missed you.
  • at Mel, I see you there glowing!
  • I found you in my mailbox!!!
  • A Perfect Diet
    I have a Labrador retriever.

I was buying a large bag of Purina at Wal-Mart and was in line to check out.

A woman behind me asked if I had a dog?

On impulse, I told her no, and that I was starting "The Purina Diet" again.

Although I probably shouldn't have, I said, because I'd ended up in the hospital the last time but that I had lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward
with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a "perfect" diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with the Purina nuggets
and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry.

I added that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story.

Horrified, she asked if I had ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me.

I told her no.....I'd been sitting in the street licking my balls and a car hit me.

I thought the people in line behind her were going to need medical attention, they were laughing so hard.
  • had not planned on buying any thing but I saw this beautiful 1/2 carat diamond necklace on sale, 40 % off. I brought it home with me. At 40 % off, it was still a hunk of change. I didn’t like the chain because it was to short, 18 inches. I went back to the jewelry store today and asked to exchange the chain but that wasn’t in the deal, sigh. They had some I liked but way to expensive. My aunt’s grandson was with us and wanted to go to Walmart to check out some games for his game boy. We stopped by the jewelry counter and found the perfect 24 inch chain. It was 75 % cheaper than the one at the jewelry store. This will be my birthday and Christmas present for the next 2 years. Ooops, also bought a birthstone ring. It was on sale also.

The first person I saw at church this morning was my cousin. He asked me if I used the c.b.radio at work. They listened to me all last month. I guess that’s one way of staying in touch! I knew the people in my county could here me and that’s enough but in Greene County too. He also told me that his mom only wanted to contact him so the people who sold the radio came and reset every thing.

Mel--The dog diet story was halarious but I would diffinately suggest that you stick to Michael Thurmand's diet. Could there be something hiding in that Star Buck's coffee that you could be allergic too. I've pin-pointed that my laundry detergent was making me stop up at night. Hope the Allegra works.

Meadow-Where do you find these cute graphics? We need some cheering support.

Rose--Sounds like your summer has been full of travels.

Happy--One pound at a time is a good start.

Shad, Madcat, Suzi and the others, hello.

    Shame onme but I haven't exercised in 4 day's.
  • Thought I had replied to this this morning, but it seems I have not. Ummmm.

Nothing much to report right now. Another day of Train the Trainer. Some good some bad. It's a toss up.

I've just finished my taxes (must be a land record - tax year finished 30 June and I've got them in by 8th August) and I have also done and submitted the census form by e-census. No writing them out for this chick. Silly questions that they were. D'uh if I am not an Australian then was my father born in Aus? Was my mother born in Aus? How come when I answered some of the other questions, the program had the smarts to know that I didn't need to answer the next question, but the one above took me by surprise.

So the legal bits have been done. Now just the last of the clearing and cleaning and a bit of gardening on Saturday. They are still arguing about where we will live, whether we will get laptops, do we have to share digs, (at least the twit is not here). How often can we come home. Access to computers etc. I remain calm and unmoved. No internet, no go.

Anyway, I am stuffed. Gotta go and get a cuppa and then bed. It's early and I will probably regret it tomorrow as I will be awake at 3 or so. How painful not to be able to just sleep it off.
    Seeya
  • Wow!! Ceejay!! Nice haul on the shopping spree!!! Good for you. Women need their trinkets to keep the spirits flowing right along!! Merry Xmas and Happy Birthday to you! Enjoy them and wear them in good health my friend. On the Starbuck's thing it is the caffeine. I am caffeine sensitive but as it was the only caffeine intake, I thought I could get away with it I used to be on the CB radio for many years till I moved here and couldn't have it. Too many pacemakers!

Shad~ Happy Train The Trainer Week! You are off to a good start with coffee and and early rising!!!
Take care and get off to a good start. Play nice in the sandbox with the other kids!!!!

It's dark and dreary and feels great!!! I woke to find no sun and felt "cool". I even have some energy....i know it's all in my head but don't tell me. I'm half asleep and aready finished a basket of recycle and started cleaning.
Even the bird is fed and watered. the kids are still asleep. I see they didn't leave for the parents last night. Guess they got one good nights sleep here before the long drive.
    I don't envy them.
Today is a good day to go thru all the vcr tapes and get rid of some. One of the guys loves vcrs so I'll give him first choice before they go into the garbage room for others to pick over. I believe in recycling. There is a bench in that room and we all put stuff in boxes there. someone always has a use for the "white elephants" that make their way to the bench. One man's trash is another man's treasure. I am getting deja vu so maybe I already told you this! better keep my butt moving or the dark will put me back to sleep
    Happy Monday!!!!

OMG!!! I ALMOST FORGOT!!! LAST WEEK I WEIGHED IN AT 184 AND TODAY I WAS 181.5!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SOOOO HAPPY Drinking the water and stopping the salt is getting the water retention back under control. So today I am a happy camper!
  • Mel- LOL at the dog story.
CJ- I think it is nice you treated yourself.
    Hi Shad!
Happy- hope you feel better quick.

Hubby was talking frisky talk very early this morning. I grumbled at him, then I closed my eyes and smiled. He says, see you're smiling. oops I was thinking about cleaning out the fridge!!! and then the toaster...............He laughed hard. I am one romantic chick.

I am over my heat stroke from yesterday.

    Swimming lessons at 4.

Need to call the AC guy.Ac conked out yesterday. I need it worse than heat in the winter.

I will start cleaning house at the top. My room first.Hubby still needs to put base boards in the bathroom.

    HUGS!!!
  • Monday morning
    Hello All,
Mel, thanks for the welcome back.... your story was a crack up.... good one! The first day back after vacation once I am there I will be up and running..... I think! Good job on the weight loss. I made myself step on the scale this morning and found I had dropped some of that awful gain I put on this spring.... so I am rededicating myself to better eating. I picked up a better blender and made a smoothie last night.... I think I could do well with making use of more liquid meals that are nutrious.
good morning Holly, I too can suffer from heat stroke sometimes I wet a bandana and put it around my neck when I am outside or in and can't get any relief, it helps.
Shad, mel's advice play nice in the sand box.....lol.... hope it works out for you today.... another set of pupils!
Well, I haven't told you all but I got my scooter and it is awesome...but in my life I must have mechanical problems are the universe is not happy. So my scoot is not on the road right now but it is so much fun. I have a crate for the pups to ride in back securely strapped in and off we go. The first night I did that I had my pic taken 3 times that night.....lol.
If anyone has some good smoothie ideas or advice I would love to hear it. My other job will probably start this week too..... hope I can handle it.
Have a great day everyone... take care.
    Peace,
    Nae
  • This on is for you, MEL. This is the building they are removing. See, they have removed the middle bit first.

Oh, and just for the fun of it, here's the view of the lake from our balcony.
  • Before I miss you both a big and to Rose and Madcat!
Posting to follow hope your days are fab!
  • I am a happy camper! I seem to have shifted 4 lbs off the scales and one inch from my waist. I checked yesterday expected to be the same as the weekend was rather naughty but no I had lost and again this morning. All the gruelling daily routine has paid off.

Actually it hasn’t been too bad, just back to regular exercise and eating properly. I have made my portions smaller and am trying something with my diet. I will share if it works.
It’s a high carb day, vs low carb day. The idea is to alternate and it is supposed to work. So far so good. I think for me tho it’s steering clear of the fats.

My weekend was dreamy. DH decided that I needed a “treat” day after all the “work” with the kids and the vacation. I was on my own most of the time and he was aware of that. I didn’t buy much while away.

We went to the Mall to look at some outfits. First shop I went into I found this gorgeous skirt and top set. It was so pretty. Red with embroidery anglaise trim – very Françoise.
I found a cute little cardigan to go with it and another top in green. Then it was off to find shoes, DH carted the boys around to their various activities while DD and I just shopped.
I found some beautiful red pumps that make me feel like Dorothy with her ruby red slippers and they go perfectly.

After the clothes shopping it was off to the “foot Spa” I was treated to a foot massage and pedicure. My toes are now sparkling red to match the outfit. It was such a nice experience.

In the evening we went to a lovely restaurant that has become our favourite with our friends who are French/ Irish. They are so nice to listen to. Their accents just hang around like poetry. The bought the champers and we shouted dinner. I thought the scales might jump after what I ate, mediterrean platter, Veal bosciolla, and crème brulee! So special. I finally feel as though we have made friends here whom both of us enjoy the company of.

DH is getting all excited for my birthday – 40 in 10 weeks. He wants to organise a girly night for me and my friends, it should be fun but it will be hard to stay out of the kitchen.
I have been for my walk this morning and had my egg whites with a sprinkling of cheese and my cup of fresh strawberries! YUM what’s for lunch!?

    - hope you all don't mind I posted this from my journal as i need to log this weight loss thing to keep focussed. 4 lbs down now ans 6 to go.
I think i must have been retaining water or something, perhaps the scales were on the blink but the 1 inch in the waist is a bonus!
I have read all your lovely entries,
Mel you had me in stitches. I thought that was so funny. i am going to have to send that one to all my " e friends!" how funny.
CJ ...ohhh bling! I love bling. I keeep hinting with DH but he really down't see the need or the difference between a sparkly ring my DD wears and one that is slightly more expensive....I DO! I've promised myself when my ship comes in I am going to buy myself something lovely too. Happy birthday to you
Shad, on the taxes. I have census to fill out tonight! you sound like me, last night bed was 9.30 and I was wide awake at 4.00am. Dh was sniffling away and making the most grossest of sounds, he didn't even realise. I was sitting there lying awake wondering if I should brave the cool air. I managed to snooze but then woke up groggy. I hate that.
Nae, it's so nice to see you back .. on the weight loss. Your scooter sounds so fun. I would just love one to zip around in go Nae!
Holly hope you day is fab, come and do my house pleeeeeze!
    Love to all
