Welcome Mickers. yes we all have those days when you look in the mirror and just feel BADDDDD about the reflection. Are you breastfeeding? My past experience that my weight didn't come off until I completely weaned the babies. Guess your body just hangs onto everything incase of famine or drought etc!

Several of us purchased the quick start kit. I like the bars and the meals for the most part - couldn't handle the milk shake things! Thins it is a good way to really get into it.

Good luck in finding a new job.

Sabrina: I was still on the payroll but without a job for three months during my "redeployment". Unfortunately, I didn't get all that much accomplished - was somewhat disappointed. I too enjoy working and being busy - just wish I could work three days a week or something like that.

Everyone else: Hope everyone is losing!

  • Thanks!!
    Hi,
Thanks for the replies and support that I got. I am no longer breastfeeding - so these extra lbs have no business hanging around- any longer!! I will be getting my quick start kit soon- will report back.

    Thanks!

  • Whew!!
What a week I've had...I'm still recovering from last week, and here it is mid-week again....I think I need a vacation, gals

The great thing is how absolutely fabulous I feel! I went back to the doctor a couple weeks ago, convinced that my thyroid was TOTALLY out of whack again. I was so tired I couldn't even complete my workouts any more, & I was sleeping 11 hours a night on the weekends. (WAY weird if you knew me)

Well, it wasn't my thyroid. This is my second week on the Zone, and within 2 days of starting it, I felt like a completely different person. I'm feeling better than I have in years, and the only thing I've changed is my diet.

    I'm sold!

I'm also amazed at how easy it has been to stick with the eating. It makes a lot of sense, it's really not complicated (even though it looks like it), and I'm never hungry. I've had no trouble finding Zone-friendly foods even when eating out! It DOES require thinking ahead to make sure I buy enough groceries...this is a LOT of food!!! And I spend more time preparing (and EATING) than I did before, but it's certainly manageable.

    Geez, this really works!!
  • Bye bye sleeps!
    Hey that's fantastic!

Amazing what a little fine tuning can do, huh? I'm hanging out on another thread and working on a couple of folks who are thinking about jumping into the Zone but are having a really hard time adjusting to the low carb idea, but it does appear to be complicated. Maybe someone should just come out with the book called "The Zone for Dummies" to explain it in layman's terms. Sears does go on, you really have to skim thru and not get bogged down in the science of it.

I feel like a broken record going on about the glycemic index. Hope I'm not boring everyone to death!

Down 2 lbs in the past 2 weeks.

  • Hello Zoners!!

    Everyone sounds really into it.

Sabrina, I have been meaning to post especially just to wish you luck and tell you I am sorry that you have to go through the hassle of "redeployment"-- but like my Mom always said (and d*** it she is never wrong) "there is always a reason for everything". I hope you find just what you want-- be tough at the negotiating table, it sounds like you have a lot to offer a company!

I have, yet again, maintained for the 15th (actually I have lost count) week. But it is really by choice, I am sooo happy with myself that the scale number is mattering less and less. I only have 10 pounds to go to be at my ultimate weight (a number I picked myself with my doctor) and coming from 200+ it is hard to get all obessessed about 10 lousy pounds! So this summer I plan to maintain-- my best "losing" months are Sept-Oct and Nov.-- so I will get down to business then. I will focus on my running and weight lifting-- weigh myself once a week and eat enough to maintain what I am now. It is going to be a great summer! I actually have NO druthers about putting on a suit in public-- NONE-- I feel emotionally happy and that is what counts.

Got to run--- Keep it up everyone!!!!

  • Hi! How is everyone doing today?

I haven't posted in a really long time so I doubt any of you remember me. I started doing the Zone a few months ago but unfortunately I fell off the wagon after a few weeks. But I finally decided to get back in the Zone and be serious about it this time around. Like I said, this is my second run at the Zone, which is pretty amazing in itself because other than just plain old calorie counting I've never done one "diet" twice. And even while I was off the program I still tried to maintain the 40/30/30 balance in many of my meals. I just think that the balanced eating concept is the best thing for my body and I really hope I can take it somewhere this time. It's just been really frustrating because I'm one of those people who want results NOW and if I don't get them I quit. But at least with the Zone I can focus on some of the immediate results that I can have, like having more energy and knowing that I'm doing something good for my body by keeping my blood sugar stable.
Thanks for listening to my whining.

    ~Donna~

PS: Does anyone have a good source for zoned recipes (other than the books)?
  • Welcome back Donna - yes I remember you. Always wonder what happens to "chicks" who post and then we never hear from them again. Suppose some are on other threads and others just forget the website name!

Of all my cookbooks the easist one that has some great zone type recipes is the Better Homes & Gardens Dieters Cookbook. I have seen it in second hand book stores before. It has great pictures (I must be motivated before cooking!) and best of all it breaks down the recipe in Protein, carbs & fat. along with the calories. Everything is pretty easy to make and very few strange ingrediants.

I was at Trader Joes today and they have started carrying Zone Bars - yippee. They had my favorite chocolate raspberry crunch one. Bought a couple of dozen.
Happy zoning everyone. Don't work to hard Maureen.

  • Can I ask some questions
I have been reading your posts and doing some research on The Zone Diet. I have a underactive thyroid and apparently the Zone diet is very good for this condition. I have checked out the site and have the food lists but there are a few things I can't fiqure out. How many blocks do I eat a day? I currently weight 165. I started at 180 and through cutting out the junk I lost 15 pds but have stalled. Many people have mentioned a increase in energy which I really need. But I just need a little help, I want to start this tomorrow so I hope I hear from someone today. Thank you all very much.
  • OOps
Oh one more. How do you eat these blocks. And what is a sample menu

    Thanks
