One of my biggest nightmares just came true...

  • I've flown maaany times on Southwest and other airlines at this weight. The seatbelts are tight, but I've never needed an extension, and I've never had to buy an extra. And you're taller and thinner than me.

But I know you're still going to worry, because no matter how many times everything goes ok for me, I'm still sick with terror before every flight :/
  • I always wear jeans when I fly because they act like a bit of a corset on my hips and thighs (that's where I carry my weight).

I have issues with armrests because of my hips. The last time I was able to fly and put both armrests down (without my thighs being underneath them) was a few years ago. I was 260 pounds, 5'7". I wore a size 22.
  • I flew Southwest in March at 288, size 22, 51 inch upper belly, 47 3/4 inch waist, 54 inch hips. No seatbelt extender, no second looks from the flight attendants. I've flown at least once a year at pretty close to that weight for about 6 years, and they've NEVER given me a hard time. I usually fly in jeans, but I don't look sloppy. Breathe, it should be just fine for you.
  • Don't worry about it! I've never flown Southwest, but I have flown US Airways, British Airways, and Aer Lingus. When I flew, I known I was a size 24, but I'm unsure about my exact weight. Probably 270ish. I fit in the seat fine, and I was even able to put down the arm rest (although I only used it on one flight... all the other flights I had no one sitting next to me and I left it up). I also wasn't even close to needing a seatbelt extender.

No one ever commented on my weight, either. So I'd say you have nothing to worry about. It's all in your head No one else will be thinking about your weight while on a flight to Vegas.

    Have fun!
  • The last time I flew I was probably around 250. I didn't need a seatbelt extender and was able to fit in the seats just fine. Granted, I fit snugly in there but I still fit and no one made any comments about me or my weight. You will be just fine.
