  • Quote: I just heard a news report...

Oregon: 5 swept to sea in a surge, 1 found dead, 2 found alive, 2 still missing
California: 7 swept to sea, 2 found dead, 1 found alive, 4 still missing

I think that is absolutely amazing that an earthquake 1/3+ a world away causes deaths here.
It was the Tsunami racing across the ocean that caused the trouble on the West Coast. I live near Santa Cruz where they have had $17 million in damage. Fishing boats in the harbor sunk and or damaged , docks torn away and destroyed. Of course this is minor compared to what happened in Japan.
  • I'm really glad to hear that the 3FC members in Japan and Chantelle's parents are ok. Chantelle, I hope they're able to get out and on their way soon, and I hope you're doing alright in the meantime.
  • Its so sad whats happening, thinking of all those affected.
Glad the 3FC Japan girls and Chantelle's parents are safe

UK Chicks if you are concerned about the safety of relatives and friends in Japan then you should call the British helpline number 0207 008 0000
  • Turns out a couple people I know have lost their homes. They are having rolling blackouts tonight and another big quake is predicted. Everyone in the affected areas is just waiting.

I'll be making a donation come payday, money and blood. It is very surreal living in a part of Japan that has not been affected at all.

Krampus, I was teaching in NW China when the Wenchuan earthquake hit in 2008, in which almost 70,000 died. We were one province over and close enough to feel it, but there was very little damage in my city because the main force ofthe quake was blocked by the mountains.

I get how you feel, I really do. Some of my students lost family, and the entire campus was in turmoil for the rest of the term. Rumors were constantly going around about how another earthquake was going to happen at any moment. Most students refused to sleep in their dorms, so the stadium field became a makeshift camping ground.

My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you and your students. It's a very impotent feeling, I think, when all we can offer is money, blood, and prayers, but it's what we have and it DOES make a difference, even when it's hard or impossible to see.

  • Just found out my friends family in Japan is safe and another friend in Hawaii is safe. I can't believe the footage, it's just mind blowing.
  • Quote: Thank you everyone for your prayers. Heard from my mom a little while ago, they are safe, just indefinitely stranded.. so thankful but so scared that they're still in the midst of things. But they are well, and safe, and that is all I could hope to hear at this point....
Have they been able to leave?

My heart hurts for all the people over there.
