Things that are full of calories that are 'healthy'

  • Dried berries and sunflower seeds.

I could eat endless salads with them, for every meal of the day! But they have more calories than the rest of the salad combined!
  • I can't give up my cheese. I do a slice of pepper jack on my sandwich every day for lunch. 80 calories and well worth it! Light string cheese is part of my afternoon snack...50 calories a stick. I suppose I'd be better off eating those calories in the form of fruits and veggies instead, but if it helps me keep the pizza, nacho and Mac & cheese cravings away...it's worth it for me.
  • It's been said, but I'm nuts for nuts.

They are healthy and delicious, and so damn full of calories it's a pity.

My in-laws, (The ones I talk about who have NEVER had a weight problem), buy a big bag of walnuts every fall. They get like a 5 pound bag and put them in the freezer just "in case" we get another blizzard like the one in '49. My MIL told me way back when, (When she would then give me the bag come spring) that her family literally lived on black walnuts they had gathered during the depression. It only took a small amount to get in all their necessary calories for the day. That and minimal produce they could grow during the dust bowl area kept them alive and healthy for years.
  • Quote: beer (hand crafted)
YES! Good, quality beers. Dark beer is good for you with all those anti-oxidants... however, some of the really dark stuff - like Sam Adams Double Bock has like 330 calories in ONE BEER. It is insanity!
  • Raisins. Love those little suckers, but boy do the calories add up fast...
  • Yes yes...the whole eat healthy and thou shalt be slim thing...forget about it, biggest old wives tale ever
  • I stay away from MOST high calorie foods- even if they are healthy- because I just can't handle the small portions. A few nuts is not worth 180 calories to me. 2tbsp of peanut butter is not worth it to me. If I am having a non-ravenous day, I might have a PB&J sandwich and call it dinner, but I just can't do that on a normal day. I get tooooo hungry!
  • Nuts have to be carefully weighed and then locked back into their cabinet.

I love whole wheat pasta and rice, but have learned that if I only use 1/2 a serving and really bulk it up with tons of veggies, a little is just as filling.
