I have such a hard time cooking for just the two of us and not having leftovers. I have tried cutting down recipes to just two servings but it does not always work well for me. It is ok though because I normally have lunch leftover for DH the next day. Makes it easier on me
  • For me, making just the right amount for the amount of people I'm serving works REALLY well.

If there's two of us - two pieces of salmon, or two chicken breasts or two - whatever. I keep things individually wrapped in the freezer so it's easy to defrost precisely what I need. Veggies - I make as much as we're going to eat and then - we eat it. Soup, that I make a large amount of to have for the week, but that's easy to dole/portion out and we rarely go back to seconds of that.
  • Interesting discussion. I too portion and write down my food and calories before I eat & don't do seconds. I've lost nearly 70 pounds with the TV on - so I guess I shouldn't be concerned.

I will, however, still try to concentrate on taking my time, tasting the food, and feeling full with the TV on.

    Thanks for this good discussion.
  • I'm also using portion control and writing down everything I eat. I like to enjoy my meals in front of the computer...right now I'm having lunch. This way I can just sit back, relax, and enjoy my meal worry free.
  • I was raised in a dinner-table house LOL and I carried that with me. I guess it's all what you're used to! Lunch is usually with co-workers but we all sit at a table, and dinner is with nice plates at the dining room table and DH and I talk and laugh thru it, it's my favourite meal of the day!

I like the little bit of formality, I took time to prepare a nice meal and we sit down without any distractions and enjoy it. We eat around 7 pm so there's nothing good on tv anyway
