  • Silver - I have some dark chocolate pomegranate pudding cups that are pretty good, they have to store in the refrigerator at least. The ones that are shelf stable scare me a little. In looking at it though, fresh fruit or yogurt with fruit is almost always more satisfying to me than even the refrigerated pudding.

    Want a big piece of protein for tea. Need to work on how that can be done in meal-type format rather than cave-person-style. (I am big on table manners.)

    Shannon - you sneaked in to post! I'm OK-ish, thanks, is the public version. The private vsn is that I'm feeling slightly mental. I need things (incl food) to settle down and stop moving so fast. We have the painter at present which is a bit unsettling. No space.
  • Silver - I was watching a program called "House Hunters International" the other day, and they were looking for a decent house or flat in the middle of Edinburgh - for an American! I kind of imagine your place like some of the ones they saw (built in the 17th century! ) Good luck with the painters.
  • oh Pat! Those beautiful Edinburgh flats with high ceilings and inside shutters. Some big & others pretty small.

    I read you've got about 1,000 + sq ft of space. I'm going to measure up here tomorrow but I think it's much less (removing child's elbow from my mouth and partner's foot from my lap).
  • Good morning my fellow 5-10-ers (though in the next carnation of this thread I think it should be 5-15!),

    Still did not get quite enough sleep last night but I think I was so tired I finally did sleep better, at least. TGIF. I'm not sure when I'm going to get to the gym today, but I will get there! Possible obstacles this weekend: running around crazy like a chicken with its head cut off Friday afternoon (food already packed, hopefully enough to get me through), and Saturday morning (not sure what food I have in the fridge that's packable but I'll find something...must bring cooler), chorus concert Sunday afternoon but I'm skipping the reception afterwards where there are lots of cookies etc. Work on lines & staging for play. Clean house? Prep food for the whole week, not just first 3 days of the week. I realized my play and my lifting tournament are only 3 weekends after this one. I'm still overly stressed about life.

    Silver, I personally like cave person style. You don't want to see me with the fried turkey at Thanksgiving... Good luck with the painter.

    midwife, are you ignoring the junk? Sending some your way.

    How is everyone doing? What's everyone up to for the weekend? Dealing with any food events or weight loss obstacles?
  • Silver, never ever? Forever is a long time....but you're right, I don't need it. I need to remember that if I am going to have something sweet, it should at least be high quality. Could some nice smoked salmon meet your tea needs?

    I'm doing okay. Last night was a bridal shower and I had lasagna (a reasonable serving, salad, water, and a small piece of cake. Skipped garlic bread, appetizers, wine, second helpings, and, oh yeah, garlic bread. So that's something.

    Megan, sounds like you have a busy weekend. Planning is so so important, right? My weekend looks thusly: off today, soccer practice tonight (plan on a run), track meet in the morning from 10 am to 2 pm, soccer game at noon (do you see a conflict? I do and I don't have a solution yet....), my friend's wedding at 5, dinner at the reception, no idea what is on the menu, but will make common sense choices. Sunday I work. Okie....
  • Yes, midwife. Dokie. Track vs soccer. Conflict resolution - you need it. Thanks for the smoked salmon suggestion. The DB & I have just been on a socks, sandals, books etc expedition & I bought SS & oatcakes for myself. Also feta salad & couscous because baby toms weren't available & (your DH would like this) the feta & couscous were 2 for £3 (something like £1.99 each). Still it's over now & I'm drinking lots of tea & water.

    Tea tonight is either pasta/leeks/bacon/white sauce or kedgeree. You can choose. Cabbage is obligatory.

    Megan - how do you do it? And how big is your cooler?? I'm very impressed.

    Glad I got to gymn this morning early. Feel pleased with myself.

    I took a big step yesterday. I got out my Cooking Light Fresh, Fast and Easy cookbook and decided on 5 recipes and made my shopping list for the weekend. Next week we'll be eating more healthy dinners (and making a couple double sized for lunches).

    I'll also go back to routine exercise next week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will work and I'll drop a pound which will make me feel better and therefore keep me on track.

  • Hey, Kitty, I did see most of the one in Italy. Great old houses. I was sick last week and spent a lot of time watching HGTV.
  • I think I need to pop in here. I'm still under red line, but I've noticed I've been spending more and more time at the tippy top of my "OK" range, instead of near the bottom.

    Some of this will be alleviated, I think, as we move into summer - I get more active with gardening, and we switch to more salads, grilled things, etc. But I want to get on a healthy path to get the most out of that season switch that I can.

    So - goals. Cut out one snack a day so I get back into losing mode, add one extra workout a week w/ yoga or etc, scale back dessert by a quarter, and for heaven's sake, keep weekends on plan (I am never REALLY off...just a LITTLE off. But the littles add up!)

    I'm starting week 4 of boot camp, and actually I realized it's going to be 6 weeks total of boot camp before I reach the date I decided to be the end of boot camp, April 18. I'm halfway through. Week 1 I was making all of my goals except finishing off my "grain" products, hadn't gone no grain yet. Lost 5 lbs (mostly water weight, admittedly). Next 2 weeks... nothing. Gained, lost, a little w/ TOM... and nothing. I don't know if I've ever worked so hard for no change on the scale! I took my measurement b/c I "feel" thinner... nope, no change. Not to mention I'm starving all the time, really irritable, tired yet having trouble sleeping b/c calorie #s are rolling around in my head... so I'm making a few modifications to my last 3 weeks. I'm upping my calories to 1600/day, and allowing grains. I had a bowl of oatmeal this weekend and it was just heavenly. Onward to the HIITs, but what I'm doing right now isn't sustainable!

    Megan, I hear how hard you're working. With all of your lifting, adding a few calories might make a positive difference (I know that's controversial though!).

    My weekend was good. We attended a wedding Saturday and I really appreciated the food. I had grilled asparagus, a little Caprese salad, stuffed eggplant, cauliflower, salmon with olives, and a little chicken breast. Skipped the ceasar salad, pasta, & bread. A small sliver of yummy cake (white cake with apricot/almond filling and buttercream frosting). So good. Of course as I'm wirting this all down it seems like a lot. I just want to know why my cauliflower at home doesn't taste like their cauliflower? I think I lack butter, breadcrumbs and bechemal (sp?). Alas.....

    I think I'm going to approach the grain free thing as an 80%/20% philosophy. So, not zero, but less. This weekend will be a challenge with a baby shower Saturday and then Easter on Sunday. No cheap candy!

    Goodness, I think no cheap candy was my rallying cry when the original Take 5-10 thread started in August. Le sigh.

    Oh, I did find out last week what happens when you don't make working out a priority....it DOESN'T happen! At least not for me. No one else in my life will make it a priority. It's up to me to make my goals reality.
