  • Hello again
Bobbi. We actually have a winter camp in the woods and a summer camp on the river but this weekend we are going meet family that has a camper. Way way too hot for tent camping. We are only in may and it's 95 degrees..

Gayle thank you for the tick tip. We have them when we go to the winter camp. I'm always getting them off my husband.

Marie that snow would feel so good now. It's so hot here already. I don't know what we will do in July/August.

    Have a good weekend ladies.

  • Hi everyone! It's a fairly nice day here...it was kind of cloudy this am but the sun is now out and is supposed to be in the 70s. Still feels slightly cool though. Dh took our gs swimming this am, they came home for sandwiches for lunch and now are going fishing. I was going to go with them but felt like dh wanted it to be a guys time as he kept telling me negatives about the place...no place to put a chair, have to sit on a rock, you'll get bored etc. It's ok, I recogize they need their guy time and I have plenty to do. I'm good with being alone. What a change in our gs now that he is 12! So obedient and much calmer, not so hyper. He is trying so hard to be helpful and fit in with our lifestyle which is way different than what he is used to. He didn't ask for me to read to him last night which I expected (afterall he's 12) but I kinda missed that special time together. Now he's all into watching movies on his little computer thingy and listening to music, but I realize they change and just feel blessed he still wants to visit grandma and Lolo.

Cajun/Isabelle/glynne - I've never been a roughn' it kind of camper. We've always had a RV of some kind or stayed in a cabin. Actually the cabin was the roughest in some ways as it wasn't very clean! It rains so much here that camping outside is not so pleasant except for a few weeks when we actually get summer maybe. Good to know the tip for ticks though, just in case. I remember our son coming home with a tick in his head after a camp-out with the boys in our church. Dh pulled it out with his very strong fingernails! Didn't seem to hurt our son and he managed to get it out. Cajun, good luck with the hypnosis. I've thought about doing that and have tried it here at home (with tapes), but I never stick to it long enough. It does put me to sleep sometimes though which is very restful. I think it's probably ok as long as it is a qualified person doing it for health reasons and not just entertainment. That sounds like a lot of calories, but maybe it's right for you right now. Let us know how it goes.

Marie - Loved the pictures...looks so cold! I know you get a lot of snow in the winter but thought by now it was past. We go to our condo near Bend now and then and we have slid down the mountain coming home a few times. I still remember the first time we were in Bend when we went to our timeshare presentation and ended up buying. There was a lot of snow..up to our knees in places. We stayed at a hotel in Bend (got couple free nights) and they paid for a meal in a restaurant too. We had a great time and have never regretted buying into our condos. Your dh is like my dh with the pancake breakfasts.....our gc always look forward to his pancakes.

Slmn11 - Oh, I didn't understand it that way but I hope that's right as in my case it would be better as dh does get more than me. Yeah, I can imagine about calling them as whenever I ask dh to call and ask a question about something to do with any of govt benefits he hates it as he's on hold forever.
The way the govt moves I wonder how long it would take to get the increased pay after your spouse died.

I've been doing pretty well with my housework schedule this week. Today so far I've done a little extra cleanig in our bedroom and the kitchen besides the daily stuff. I have a laundry load I need to go reboot. Should get a lot done while the guys are away.

You all have a good day/evening!
  • Evening all...Just checking in to keep Donna calm. Nothing absolutely nothing new down here in sunny hot Florida. 95 on the lania a little while ago.

Met friends for dinner at local seafood place. Decided that I'd try the portabella mushroom sandwich. Visions of big mushroom cooked like a burger....wrong...it was 2 baby portbellas sliced sautee with red/green peppers onions, dab of cheese on homemade cracked wheat bread. Disappointed but boy is that a start to creating a great recipe. Report will follow.

Welcome newbies....hugs to you all. k3

ps confession.....I got another dvd set. So weekend will be with William and Mary...he's an undertaker and she's a midwife.
  • Hi Everyone,

Bobbi & Rosey - so sorry I missed your birthday.

    Hope you enjoyed your day!

    Lynn
  • Just found this site for free ebooks. I already have almost 900 books on my Kindle and I only read with it at certains times so it's going to take me a while to get through them! But I'm sure I'll keep adding more cause I love books.

  • Good evening GG’s,

Had a nice day off ~ back to work tomorrow. It was a busy, productive, fun day. Laundry, visit with a friend (instant message), my sister and my mom by phone. Dentist appointment and a little visit with Maddie. Back home made fruit salad for work and fruit mixture for evenings at home. Jason and Corbin stopped in for a few minutes. Needed Corbin’s help for a little surprise I was making for DD Sara. Then cooked ~ we were gonna have it Sunday (sloppy joes, coleslaw, corn on the cob and brownies) but they went to the coast and it was too late to do it when they got back, so we did it today. NSV ~ I did not lick one spoon, spatula, bowl or dribble of brownie batter. And I did not eat even one brownie (knew that would be my undoing) but took along my own dessert ~ the fruit/cool whip mixture.

My chair dancing DVD’s came today, but I was so busy that I didn’t get to check them out.

I have made it for 5 days now of no junk. Now back down to what my ticker says. I seem to be feeling better ~ maybe a combination of feeling better physically and emotionally ~ what ever ~ I’ll take it.

Hope you all have had a good day and have a nice Memorial Day weekend.

Almost bed time, so I will have to do the personals another time.

    Take care
  • Hi Goldens!

Camping trip cancelled due to weather. It is very cold here and we are expecting snow tomorrow. I expect to cover the plants tomorrow as it will freeze. Bummer. Of course, it will clear up as soon as the weekend is over.

My ds has gout again really, really bad. I turns out that some of our food is bad for him - mushrooms - that we didn't know. Also seafood. It's gonna be a chicken and fish household all the time for a while. He has had several flairs and they are going to try him on an experimental drug. We have been irritated with each other the last couple days..... Actually, NO, he has been needing a wack between the peepers with Rosey's rolling pin!

Karen, nice to see you. I love portabellas. I will miss them this summer.

Not much to share.... Sorry, no personals tonight.

    Rie
  • Dropping in to say "hello" to all, will have to do some reading to get to know you a little. Posted my Bio for you!
  • I am so angry. I planted 4 collard plants and something ate the leaves off one of them. Now I remember why we don't plant more than tomatoes. This has happened in the past. I think a mothball or two might scare them away. I just might have to continue to buy my produce instead of growing it. I hope they enjoyed the collards as much as I was expecting to! We think it was a groundhog because Bambi doesn't usually come down this close to the house. We have a baby groundhog who is fearless.

Welcome Lily!- Jump right in with us! I will go back and read your bio to get to know you a little bit.

Gayle - That tick removal tip sounds great, but I hope I never have to use it. I am so afraid of ticks. Because of my allergies, I am not outside much so I hope I never have to deal with one.

Marie - I'm so glad I never moved to Oregon! LOL I would not be wanting to have snow or even cold weather in May. We are pretty much guaranteed not to have snow May - Sept. But come warmer weather, I'd love a dip in your pool!

Marie/Isabella - I have 2 daylilies on one side of the yard and 3 on the other. We must have perfect conditions here because they are each about 3-4 ft across. In the past we have dug them up and split them, but right now I don't have anyone to give them to or anywhere else to plant them. I don't think they will bloom in shade. I have given some to people, but in the fall when they go down to nothing and disappear into the ground, they tell me they died and they usually plant something else over top of them. Even if I explain to them that they will peek back out of the ground in the spring. I guess they don't believe me. LOL

Karen3 - A few years back a local restaurant had a portabella sandwich on the menu and it was just a big mushroom like a hamburger. It turns out that I was the first person to every order one and there were several of them standing around just watching me eat it because they wanted to know what I thought of it! That was just rude and annoying! LOL It wasn't something I would order again and it's now off the menu. I think the audience turned me against it.

Gayle - Good for you on not eating the brownie batter and taking your own healthy dessert! I am so proud of you!

Rie - I did not know that mushrooms affected gout. I love mushrooms, but then, I don't have gout. My BIL has it pretty bad and he loves everything that's bad for it. Hope ds gets relief from the new meds.
  • Morning....It is already getting hot out! Must continue the armadillo tale. Couple weeks ago something growled at Dash in the hedge at 12M. It knocked over the birdseed can. DH put out the rest of the gummy bears and the next morning the bears were eaten and the can knocked over and it pooped on the tile. He swore it was the armadillo. 3rd night repeat of feed getting dumped. I took over! Googled raccon and armadillo scat and it was Rocky Raccon! So got out the box trap, bought more gummy bears and set up trap.....took 2 nights but he was caught this morning. Rocky was given a long ride out of town. We've been laughing all morning about using gummy bears for bait.

Dh's grandfather was not only a fruit farmer but also a fur dealer. Mostly muskrats and coon...oh deer hides and occasional fox. But his biggest money maker was coon carcass (had to have one foot still on so you knew it wasn't possum) and people came out from the city(NYC) to buy. I'll bet nothing he never bought was baited with gummy bears. Wonder if we had cooked him would he have been fruit flavored sweet? blahhhhh!

The noise you hear in the South today is just us.....GIGGLING! k3
  • Isabella, I had to giggle at the idea of going camping when you live in the rural camp haven as it is. We built our house where most would put a tent.

Cajun, I would love 95 degrees right now. We were into summer, turned that corner into hot, then it turned back. That is unusual for us. Usually once it gets hot, it stays hot. The Pacific doesn’t have big mood swings in dictating our weather. For the next three weeks it’s supposed to be cold. At least there’s no snow predicted for the next few days. Opposite of your AC, I built a fire in my wood stove this morning.

Mary, sounds like your DH and DGS had a great time yesterday. And your alone time is always nice. I love Bend as well. Their round-about streets are sort of freaky but ok once you get used to them.

KarenFL, enjoy your movies on the lania. Good job at baiting Ricky. Gummy Bears… I’d loved to have watched him try to chew it.

Gayle, Way to Go! On no spatula tastes. Unless I chew minty gum while baking, the beater always goes in my mouth. You are doing great!

Rie, I think our snow moved NE toward Montana. I’m sorry your trip was cancelled. And I’m sorry about your DS’s health. Try not to borrow the rolling pin on him.

    Lily, welcome to the group!!!

Carol Sue, I, too, got sick of feeding the outdoor critters. It’s much cheaper to buy the produce at the store or farmer’s market. BTW, my pool is still pretty warm. We have a complete solar heating system (cover and panels) and it stays pretty warm. But getting in and out of the pool in the cold is too much for me.

No big plans for me today. Sasha has a vet appt in a couple hours. I suppose I should get dressed. Then pick up my prescriptions. After that, I think I’ll quit and at some point go on a little hike with the pups. Tomorrow, though, DH and I are going to go to Redding, CA and go biking. DH found some awesome trails that wind along the Sacramento River (and it’s offsprings). And the starting point is a dam that is second in size only to the Hoover Dam. I will be bringing the camera. We’re going to have a blast.
    Marie
  • Good Morning! It has been a busy week here (I guess) it went by fast anyway! Yesterday we had the first get together with the music club that my sister is starting up. There were 6 of us there which was pretty good. Had a lot of fun. We started at 3:00 and before we knew it, it was 5:45! So much fun but we all found out we need to practice lots!

Karen, Love the Gummi bears story! My aunt has a HUGE groundhog living under her storage shed and they have tried just about everything to get rid of him. He lays on the porch of the storage shed and doesn't seem to be afraid of anything. Maybe she can get a trap and load it with gummi bears!! I'll let you know what happens!

Welcome Lilywinsit! Glad to have you join us. We look forward to getting to know you.

Rie, sorry that your camping trip was cancelled. I know how much you were looking forward to that. Have you had any bites on your trailer? I hope that you are able to get just what you want. I'm sorry that your DS is having problems with that gout...I'm sure that not only makes him miserable but others around him. Hope he feels better soon.

CarolSue, I lived in PA for about a year WAY BACK but moved back to Colorado from there. Still like living here in MO. best. We still have family back in Selinsgrove that we visit, along with Mass. and NH. There is some pretty country there.

Gayle, Congrats on your NSV!! I still have to have my licks whenever I make anything like that. Let us know how you like your chair dancing DVD's. I'll bet they are fun.

We went looking at pools and hot tubs this past week. Not sure if we will get a pool or a hot tub. I think it would be nice to have a hot tub that you can use all year but I think I really want a pool too. Maybe settle for a smaller pool and a hot tub! Guess we will see. Still need to get a storage building in and then a privacy fence around the back yard before we get the pool for sure, the patio has a lattice type fence around it so a hot tub would fit nicely in there!

Well, need to stop this dreaming for now and get back to cleaing this house and whatever this day might bring. Have a good day everyone.
  • Marie, you were posting at the same time as me! Gosh I did mean to mention it looked like winter time at your house again.

I hope Shasha appt. is a routine one. Give pats to all from Ginger and Sissy.

Enjoy your bike ride and look forward to seeing the pics.

  • K3...between the gators, armadillos, coons and dash, you have plenty of excitement don't ya. DH saw a red fox in our back yard last night, unusual because the coyotes have eaten most of them. So sad, I love the foxes.
Marie... As to taking a swim and dashing to the house, it's good for you. Really! Dr. Oz had a segment on taking cold showers and the benefits of it. When we were small and went up to Northern Minnesota on vacation, we took very hot saunas, then ran naked into the icy lake. It was awesome! I'll bet you did than when you lived here.
KarenMo...I thought of your fur kids just before turning off my cp. It turned pitch black about an hour ago, had to unplug the cp and wall cords because of lightning and thundering. Charlie doesn't seem to mind the bad weather but then he's used to having a gun go off over his head.
Carol Sue...bummer on the collard greens. I've never had them, but probably would like them.
    be back in a minute.

  • continued...had to run outside for a minute to take a picture of my roses after the storm went thru.

Rie...I was wondering the same thing KarenMo asked, any bites on your camper? Or did you figure out a way to hook it up to your vehicle? We have a friend who gets Gout and he calls it a rich man's disease. I couldn't believe how painful he said it was in his foot. Don't know if eating rich foods are bad but mushroom?

Lynn...thanks for the B'Day wishes. DH took me out to a new supper club on the golf course. We both ordered Prime Rib...never again. I got the 10 oz. size and it was 6 ounces of fat and maybe 4 oz of meat. What a rip off for $16.00. I ordered it med. rare and she brings me a med. well. Of course I rejected it, but DH said he'd eat it and gave me his med. rare. We never did get our salads, didn't realize it until we got home. The vegies were awesome, fresh yellow carrots, green beans. I ordered the sweet potato fries. They came with a container of whipped marshmallow cream topped with nutmeg. Tastes like dessert, and yes I ate the whole thing. Tiffany gave her dad a gift certificate for $50.00 last Christmas and we just got around to using it at the new supper club. Monday I'll have to get back on the diet wagon.......again.

Mary...thanks for the 'project Gutenbery' site. Tiffany gave me her kindle to use and so far I'm on my first book. She forgot to give me the instruction booklet so I'm not very good at finding my way around. I saw a few simple instructions installed right on the kindle fire. I have a couple of questions, can they crash like a computer? You have 900 books on it? Does that slow it down, how many can you put on it. Can you delete the books after you've read them. I see I can download and print out a booklet, but since I'm trying to spend less money and printer ink is expensive...I won't.

    Cajun...
speaking of food, when I see Louisiana territory on the food channel, I can almost smell the wonderful foods you make. I'm not talking about the entree items but the sweet fried goodies.

Lily...welcome. I'll check out your bio after submitting this post.

    Isabella...
I have plenty of day lilies growing, I dug many out last year as they were taking over the garden. My neighbor took them. Wish I could have sent you some.

glynne...I'm so proud of you, not even one little, bitty lick? Reading about your fruit salad reminded me of getting a macaroni salad made for tonight. Yikes, it should be marinating by now. Guess I'll plan something else for supper. I love fruit salad but DH isn't big on it, he like mac salad or potato salad better. Too fattening to make too often.

Hi Freda and anyone I missed. Isabella, how many cakes did the church lady make this week?
