Is this ok?

  • Quote: Then, if you want the treats also, it is not okay to reduce the real food, you have to increase your exercise.
Exactly, I agree. The treats should NOT replace the 'real' more healthier foods.
  • I just wanted to add something about the treats.

I used to be of the same mindset as dietnlose. At the start of my lifestyle change, I simply could not trust myself to buy a bag of hershey's kisses and not eat them all at once.

That has since changed. At first I cut all treats out of my diet but slowly let them back in and now I have willpower.

There has been a large bag of Peanut M&M's in my fridge for 4 days now and I have yet to open them.

I still have some York Peppermint Patties in my candy bowl that I bought a month ago.

You can do it. Maybe not at first as temptation may be too great but eventually you'll be able to have treats and enjoy them for what they are, treats .
  • Well said everyone! I agree, maybe you could replace some of the refined "diet" foods with healthier whole grain alternatives! It's ok to have a treat now and again if it's not taking away from your nutrition for the day. I try to pay close attention to the amount of protein, fiber, carbs, etc I get in a day and don't let myself have a less healthy snack if I find I'm deficiant and can bridge the gap with something like peanut butter on whole wheat bread. The protein + fiber/grain combination is really filling too!

You're getting a lot of your calories from carbs and very few from protein... try adding some more lean meat, nuts, etc to your diet.. that'll help a ton!

    Good luck!
  • Quote: I'm not sure how I could add more protein on my diet.
    Next time try:

Blue Bunny Brownie Sundae: yogurt with berries & slivered almonds

sour dough hard pretzel: hummus on whole grain pita

Weight Watchers Carrot Cake: whole grain bagel with fruit spread or fruit cream cheese spread

GoLean Crunch cereal: eggs or egg whites
  • I agree -- you need to eat more unprocessed foods... not prepackaged stuff and fast foods. More fresh fruits and veggies, lean meat and nuts... less sugars and breads.

I would also suggest adding in some more exercise.
