  • I can't sleep!
My muscles are sooooo tight...shoulders and neck especially! Can't sleep. Actually, though, to have done all I have over the weekend I don't feel as bad as usual. Maybe the shot or methotrexate is beginning to kick in!!!

Anne...broasted chicken isn't necessarily a southern dish...actually we used to get it in Michigan a lot and I know they have it in the eastern states, too. It is basted and cooked on a rotisserie and is delicious. A cross between baking and roasting I guess!
  • Help..who has help.not me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meme..sounds like a good trip! Hope you find your rings...I did that when we were first married took them off to wash my hands in a resturant and left them on the sick, a nice lady found them and gave them back to me! I was so embarrassed

  • THANKS CANDICE...I NEEDED A GOOD LAUGH!!!

Sorry you had such a bad day though!!!
  • Hello
    Hello Everyone
Memetoo, sounds like you had a great time. Thanks for the vidio tape information .I will try to find a good one next time I get out. My daughter orders hers from her health magazines. I may look that way too.
Candice I ate at a KFC in Sarasota. No telling how long that food had been setting out. Never again!I am sure it didn't help my pts. Although I got rid of most of it. Hope today is a better day.
Mima- Good deal with Ww. Hope I have a good lose this week too. I need it for my self esteem.
Hello Happy Canuk, This house work is never ending. I keep my heating pad close by all the time. Every time I vacumn I have to use it. I remember a Dr. telling me a few years ago not to vacumn or mop because it was bad for my back. I said to him "and who is going to do it?"Ofcourse he had no answers. My hubby ,one time in 48 yrs said he would do it .It was after my knee replacement. I caught him sitting in a chair pushing the vacumn cleaner.!
Ally, I know what you mean about some people who can eat anything they want and not get a weight problem. Don't let them get you down. Just take care of yourself. You will be fine.
    Bye Girls.....Joanne
  • Ally and Meme
Ally - yet another new book! It is called Eat Fat, Lose Weight written by Ann Louise Gittleman M.S., C.N.S. and it basically follows the 40-30-30 diet. I just want to type a little of it for you to read.

    The Big Fat Lie

The American public has been brainwashed with a great big fat lie - a lie that has been told, retold, and told again over the past 15 years. It is a lie that, in my opinion, has resulted in widespread harm to the overall health of our nation.

The lie, one of the biggest marketing hoaxes of the 20th century, is that fats are the ultimate dietary killers. What’s more, the lie has been extended to cover all fats, not just a few harmful ones. Many of the nation’s food companies would have us believe that all fats are harmful, despite widely known scientific evidence that fats are, biochemically speaking, very different from one another. Just pick up any newspaper of women’s magazine and you can learn all of the newest, most creative ways to slash the fat, cut the fat, lost the fat, or lower the fat. We’ve been told that we can eat whatever we want, whenever we want, all the time, as long as the food we eating is fat free. Unfortunately, doctors, dietitians, and others who should know better, seem to have forgotten that fat happens to be an essential nutrient, necessary for the health and well-being of our bodies and our brains.

Advertisers have learned that the words fat free, low fat, or reduced fat translate into an instant sales boost. Just take a look at how low-fat Snackwells have replaced Oreos as the nation’s best selling cookie. The magic adjectives “low fat” and “fat free” seem to convey to us that we have unlimited permission to scarf down whole boxes of the stuff - without getting fat!

So let’s look at the evidence. Since we as a nation have gone fat free, here’s what has happened:
    1. Obesity has increased more that 23 percent
    2. Adult-onset diabetes has skyrocketed.
    3. The incidence of certain kinds of heart disease has increased
    4. Depression has become a widespread national disorder
    5. Immune system viral infections like chronic fatigue and other illnesses are rampant.

While every disease is not necessarily associated with a far-free diet, the fact is that these diseases have increased while fat intake has declined. This is a phenomenon that begs to be investigates. While it is true Dr. Dean Ornish’s low far diet (along with lifestyle factors like meditation, yoga, and stress reduction) has reversed heart disease in some cases, the dangerous message we keep getting is that ALL fats is ALL bad ALL the time.

That was the introduction to the book. It talks of the Essential fats, Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9. We must eat them in order to have them. Our bodies do not make them. Without them serious health problems can happen.

This is probably one of the most informative books I have ever read in relation to how essential fats actually run our body. I have been trying this for the past week, Taking a tablespoon of flaxseed oil (before I took only 1 capsule) 2 capsules of evening primrose oil 2 or 3 times a day and Olive oil or Canola oil both cold pressed. I made a salad dressing out of flaxseed oil, and olive oil, vinegar and herbs etc. Tastes pretty good. Made a mayonnaise with the canola oil and it is reallly good.

This book was only $10.00 here so it would only be about $5.00 US.

Just thought I would pass this along, because Essential Oils are imperative for good health.

I am not talking fat from deep fried foods, or fried foods. These fats are good and necessary. Without them, we end up with fatigue, brain fuzziness, itchy skin, brittle hair and fingernails and internal organs that do not function right. Also, by adding some of these oils, the craving stop because you feel satisfied.
  • Oh Happy Anne...You are such a good researcher. When I was doing the Zone I considered my fat the olive oil dressing I made with Good Season's dressing. Or some nuts. But other than that I was never sure how to add that proportion of fat into my eating. I love salads so that is not a problem, but I was eating too many veggies...not enough protein and then I would be starving later.
I am going to find that book......
ANd Meme...so sorry about the waist.
You know, I figured that I wanted to maybe be a nice ole Size 14 and I looked on LLBean and that means I would have to have a waist of 31 1/2 inches. BUT, 14W means I don't have to lose anything.
Face it...the place us ladies gain weight after 40 is in our waist. I know I can't avoid it, but that ten pounds has GOT to go before it is stuck on there for good.
I can always lose the last few pounds I gained pretty fast since it is mostly water retention.
But my waist and the size of my upper arms is depressing me big time this summer.
And yes, when my friend talks about ice cream pig outs and I know that I pigged out on popcorn...it just doesn't seem fair. I will gain and she won't.
Meme...that restaurant sounds like a blast.
  • But...
Chew on this! When I went to the Rheumatologist in Nashville last week I asked him about diet, esp. sugar and carbs. He said that...(hope you are sitting down!)...FAT! made inflamatory diseases worse. He said instead of worrying about sugar and stuff I should be cutting the fat out of my diet. He said that he would limit the sugar only because it caused fat on the body! Isn't THAT interesting???
  • Meme, get a copy of the above book and read it. It is so interesting. Fat does cause inflammation if it is NOT an essential fat. Drs. tend to group everything together. If you have dry skin, brittle hair and nails amoung many other things, you are lacking fat. Even I know that every body needs fat just to make it survive. Your brain can't survive without fat. However, transfats like margarine, shortening etc. are just plain BAD. Oils such as Mazola and Crisco are full of free radicals that cause illness. Deep fat fried foods in restaurants are even worse, because the oil is putrid as they don't bother to change it terribly often.

Good fats include the Omega 3 (for heart) Omega 6 and Omega 9. The rest are best left alone. And, you have to make sure and get a really good oil and only enough for 1 month at a time. It should be a coldpressed oil - Olive Oil and Canola Oil (Omega 9). Butter is also ok in small amounts.

I don't believe any Dr. that says to eliminate ALL fat from the diet. It certainly has its place. I think a lot of disease may be caused because of LACK of the right fats.

    Anne
  • Hello!
I agree that you need good fats. I use olive oil, and Smart Balance margerine with no transfatty acids-those are bad. But I definitely keep away from the bad fats. I was also told many years ago that there is a relationship between sugar and high cholesterol. And triglycerides.I like the flax seed oil idea-that is supposed to be good for you. My HDL is 90-very high , so I think I am on ther right track. I also use eggs with omega 3 in them -which is what the margerine has .My cholesterol keeps going down and my HDl keeps going up-also salmon and fish are good. Maybe we need to concentrate on what is good for your body-this from the woman who had a 1/2 of a chocolate bombe-mousse covered with choclate-at my wonderful trip to the art museum yesterday. At least we did some walking. I'm making lunch today for 2 health conscious friends so that shouldn't be too bad. I'm feeling very stuffy AND I've been eating things I'm allergic too.But I heard about some popcorn with no seeds. Going to search for it on the net. Have a great day everyone!
  • No more babies please!
In order for this to make sense...you have to know that I've been working on my picture albums (scarpbooking) and I'm currently on my daughter's shower pages and the birth of her first son, Ross, who is now 4. He has been looking at the pictures of his mom when she was 8 and 9 months pregnant.

I was making a slim fast in the blender this morning and Ross asked me what it was. I told him it was a shake for losing weight. He said, "Meme...do you WANT to lose weight?" I said yes Ross I WANT to lose weight...I'm fat! Don't you think Meme's fat?" He said, "No...so....does this mean you're going to have a baby?" Gotta love 'em!
  • So, tell me some other good fat foods guys. I am getting sick of salad.
Meme...don't you hate it when your Doc says something that is different that you have read anywhere. And you think you should believe him cause after all...he does have a degree.
If you need diet advice...go find an overweight woman. We are notdoing what we are supposed to, but we know everything there is to know about it!!!!
No snacking at night for me so far...this is hard. It means eating later so I don't have the sancking opportunity.
  • Good morning!!
Hello everyone-Meme-what a beautiful ring.Did you find your other one's yet? I think canola oil is supposed to be good.I haven't been feeling well-every once in a while I get a major sinus reaction to foods and I feel sick-unless it's a cold.I guess I'll get some hot and sour soup-that usually cures it. I'm supposed to walk with my aunt but I might postpone it.I had company for lunch but we ate healthy . Mostly. Haven't been doing my points so I think I may be in trouble-haven't felt good enough to walk.I'm not going to a meeting for 2 weeks so I need to count pts.Yell at me , people!!!!!!!I tutored a really nice boy yesterday. I guess I really like to teach but I don't want a classroom.I'm rambling. Have a great day everyone.P.S.-Where is my computer table from Staples that was supposed to be delivered Tues. !!!!!!!!!Mima
  • Hey
Hey There Mima ,Memetoo. Ally and Happycanuk...
I lost 2 lbs of the 5 over goal I gained .I'll shout after I get down past goal again. I have to agree with Happy our body does need some of the good fats. I thought that slim fast had a lot of sugar. I was drinking that once when I got really sick and landed up in the hospital. They were doing all kinds of tests and doing finger sticks. They said I had a lot of sugar in my system. I told them I was not diabetic. I like to use Genisoy from GNC. It is a really good drink full of vitamins and a lot of good stuff. I thought that fat butt trying on the bathing suit was good. That's how I used to feel a few years back. Now I just don't look in the mirror when I try one on. I usually go with my daughter and say to her . "How does it look." If she says "Good Mom" I buy it.
    Hello Candicej
    Bye Joanne
  • Hi Everyone
Mima - sorry to here you are not feeling well. You are so active and take such good care of yourself, you do have to wonder how come I person gets to this state. That pain is really something to wrestle with at times. Are you getting a computer desk or what type? Take care and I know that you will do just fine - just get back on track! I know that sometimes that is easier said than done, but you have done so well.

Joanne - Good for you. That is so great and you should celebrate even if you are not quite were you want to be. It is still great.

Meme - Out of the mouths of babes come the truth(lol). My granddaughter is coming in about 1/2 an hour and we will take her back home on Saturday. Have to go to a wedding on Saturday and her Mom wants to go to Klondike Days in Edmonton (an exhibition). She is still young enough to like the rides. I think we will end up take Ashley to the Red Deer fair tomorrow night providing the weather is ok. Sure a lot of serious weather around right now. Are you starting to feel better. You mentioned that on the weekend you thought you were feeling better and that maybe the meds were starting to work. I sure hope so.

Ally - When you eat a salad, use Extra Virgin Olive Oil as the dressing. YOu can make a nice dressing using olive oil, a little vinegar, garlic, Italian spices, dried tomates etc. It may not be as 'tasty' as some of the bottled ones, but it sure is better for you. You can take gel capsules with Evening Primrose and eat fish or take flax seed capsules or just take a tbsp. of oil on something you eat. If you fry the fish in the Olive Oil you get a double whammy. Olive oil is old and has been around and used for medicial purposes for literally thousands of years. The Greeks used to use it to rub on sore muscles as well. If you are of a constipated nature, just injest 2 TBPS. of Olive Oil in the morning on an empty stomach. Supposed to be a great laxative. Also, there are such good properties in Olive oil that it is a known heart protector as well. They say to replace butter with Olive oil on Popcorn or even on bread. Just set a tiny bowl of oil out and dip your bread in it. See how easy it is to injest good oil. Now for the bad stuff: Margarine, shortening, That new stuff called, I think, Olesta?(can't get it in Canada), fat from animal origin and Oils such as Canola and Olive Oil should be cold pressed, meaning they have only been pressed once, the oil extracted and then bottled. Regular oil has been cooked and all the nutrients are long gone, as well as they release free radicals into the system.

    Enough, now?

Candice, we hardly EVER hear from you. Are you stuck down in the basement? It is nice that you come up for air and submit a beautiful picture, but gee whiz, I would like to hear how you are doing. How is your arm? You were going for another shot you said. Is the FM ok right now or what.

I went to the Chiro yesterday and feel a whole lot better. My knee was so sore, it kept me awake for 2 nights, and then the sciatic nerve startedup, from my butt to my ankle was that pain. Anyway, a treatment took care of the nerve problem, and he said the Tibia (I think) had slid over a bit, so he did something with that. It is much better today, but still a little tender. My legs are also aching. Usually takes a couple of days for everything to settle down after a treatment.

Now, I will tell you all that I have been taking a wonderful product called Spectra 12. It is a probiotic and I have been taking it since May( off and on during that month, as you know, I was with my daughter, and I forgot to take it with me). Anyway I started to take in again everyday in June and I have regained my energy. I am pretty sure this is the reason I do not have to take the meds for the Hiatal Hernia any longer. Anyway, between this and the Chiro, last week was the most wonderful week I have had in 6 years. I felt so well. I don't know how to explain that feeling, but even today when things are hurting, I FEEL well. I will put the website here if any of you want to read about it. It is worth the money, at least it is to me.

    www.supernatural.com

It never hurts to read and learn things, so that is why I post them. If you would rather I didn't please, just let me know. I am ALWAYS looking for something to help me and sometimes get to enthusiastic.

Hope your are all having a great day. It is pretty nice out here today, and I sat outside and let the sun beat on my legs. It is so much better than a heating pad, I believe it penetrates deeper, and of course, then there is the added benefit of the sun.

Well better go do some work.

    Anne
  • Happy Anne....I am glad you have found something that makes you feel better. You do sound like you have more energy. Thank you as well for the Olive Oil advice. My exboyfriend bought a gallon of it right before we split up, so I think I got enough for a while.
BUT.......Except for salad dressing, I dont have many things I use it with. No bread for me. That is dangerous. I may try downing a couple of spoonfuls tho, cause I am not eating the fiber as much and you know what that means.
Joanne...was it you within a pound or two of where you want to be? I bow to you.......
I can only hope I lose one pound of the 30 i want to dump tomorrow just to keep me from jumping into the kitchen and eating everything in site.
Meme....I bet you find those rings one day...
Mima......nothing comes in the mail when you are waiting for it.
How is Tootie....does she know we miss her?
