  • It must be like the price we pay here for fresh fruit and veggies! Fortunately, I have a lot frozen from my garden.

I've heard of the places where you can assemble your meals ahead. Sounds interesting.

My grocery list - like Robert's - has lots of chicken, skim milk, plus eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt and onions and mushrooms. Seems like I can't cook anything without onions lately. I also have been in a squash mood for about 3 months now. I bring home a large squash every few weeks. We love them roasted.
  • Justjunebug - dried figs are delicious with some sharp tasting cheese and I buy the good mejool dates - not those icky prepacked ones that are sticky and kind of hard that you find in regular grocery stores.

I used to hate dates until I discovered the mejool ones
  • NowOrNever!, THANK YOU for telling me about this idea of a food prep community center! I struggle with coming up with different meals, and I've tried homebistro.com which cooks stuff for you, but you still have to do prep and it's so expensive. I always buy pre-chopped stuff when I cook, but this is even better!

I found out there's a place about 8 or 9 miles from my house, and I think I'm going to sign up for a session this weekend! Of course, with 3 servings of 12 meals and just one person, it could take me forever to eat my way through them. I already have tons of leftovers. I'll have to see how much freezer space I can clear, I suppose.

I'll try to PM you, if there are PMs here, but if anyone has an idea of how hard it is to cook these at home, that'd be great!
  • Just a tip for those that don't like to cook; my Dillon's store (owned by Kroger) will cook your seafood for FREE! They have a convection oven of some sort that cooks it in 15 minutes (while you shop). They even add your choice of seasonings (also free), like Cajun, Lemon Herb, Garlic Herb, Lemon Pepper, etc. This has been a great way to try different kinds of fish. I usually buy whatever is on sale that week. This week we had salmon with lemon-herb seasoning. I just plan on having fish the same day I shop for groceries. I pick up a bag of ready to eat salad greens to have with it. Yummy, easy and healthy!

  • Quote: I actually eat pretty healthily at home, it's when I'm at work and go out for lunch that I run into problems. My new year's res. is to pack my lunch at least 4 times a week, and make better choices when I do go out for lunch.

I just went grocery shopping, here's what I bought:

    - Chicken breasts
    - Lean beef (mm ginger beef)
    - Frozen scallops
    - Frozen shrimp
    - Frozen wild salmon
    - Lean shaved ham
    - Canned chunk tuna in water
    - Green apples
    - Kiwis
    - Clementines
    - Bananas
    - Leeks
    - Tomatoes
    - Onions
    - Garlic
    - Ginger root
    - Lemons and limes
    - Red and orange bell peppers
    - Baby spinach
    - Baby carrots
    - Snap peas
    - Green beans
    - Asparagus
    - Diet Sprite cans
    - Diet cranberry pop
    - 1% milk
    - LS plain yogurt
    - All Bran (bleaahh! But I need to eat more fibre)
    - Jasmine rice. I know I should eat brown rice but... I HATE IT! I don't think I can force myself to eat more gross mealy brown rice. I tried making lots of dishes with it, but under all of the yummy sauce and vegetables and spices it's still disgusting brown rice.
    - Sesame oil
    - Earl Grey tea leaves
    - Lite coconut milk
    - Rice noodles
    - a small tub of peppermint ice cream
    - A couple of the President's Choice new "blue menu" microwaveable meals.
Where do you find President's Choice new "blue menu" microwaveable meals??? Thanks!
