  • At nearly 6 months, we've finally latched onto a name. We've played around with many many variations. I wanted to go with Michael James. Hubby adamantly refuses to have his child named Michael J. Fox though, so poo on him. LOL But he will have Michael in his name and that's what we'll go by. So we thought of a character in one of our favorite books and decided to go with Valentine Michael. But the more we thought about it, hubby really wants James, after his grandfather. So he's become James Valentine Michael Fox. I don't know if two will be his first or his middle, but I guess he'll figure it out as he he faces the first, middle, last questionnaires throughout life. LOL
  • I just had a boy in April and I named him Kaiden Daniel Scott. My mom suggested Kaiden, I originally wanted cadence but everyone told me that was a girls name. I actually didnt like Kaiden at first, but then it just kinda felt right. I really like the name Daniel, plus I wanted him to have a name from the bible but it's much too popular to have as a first name and Scott is my boyfriends middle name (also my brother's and my nephew middle name too :P) and he really wanted me to use it. But I couldnt do Kaiden Scott because his other son's name is Torrin Scott and I didnt want to make anyone upset, so I used both daniel and scott. Anyways, I think my baby's name is original, meaningful and just plain cute!
  • My oldest son's name is Zane. He is named after my maiden name Zehner (zaner). My baby boy's name is Tate Ballard, Ballard is after my husband's grandfather. We usually like to keep some part of the name in the family.
  • Both of my kids first names were picked because we just liked them and were actually able to agree on them. The middle names we agreed needed to have "meaning" to us. My son's was chosen from my x-husbands best friend that was killed in a car accident and my daughters middle name is of course mine, my sisters, mom's and grandma's middle name and if I have a girl this time then it will prob have the same middle name too. What can I say...I like to keep the tradition going.
  • My kids:

    ~Jasmine Natane~

We chose Jasmine because it was my husband's favorite scent, and also from a song lyric that my husband played a lot when we were dating. Natane (pronounced Nu-TAWN-ee) is a Native American word that means "daughter". My husband is Oglala Sioux, and we wanted a Native American name for her.

    ~Raiden Acheta~

When I was pregnant with Raiden, the 20 week ultrasound would not show the sex, he kept his legs tight together. Through the whole pregnancy my husband called the baby "Thor" because it sounded manly, and he thought that if he called him a manly name, he would get a boy, I guess. We did not know the sex until about 2 weeks before I delivered. In mythology, Thor is the Norse god of thunder and lightening...and we chose Raiden, because it is another mythological name for the god of thunder and lightening. It was a tribute to my husband's little nickname for my belly.
Acheta (pronounced Uh-KAY-tuh) is another Native American name. It is a strong, warrior like name...something strong enough to go with "Thor".

    ~Saber Phoenix-Tyree~

My husband is a big sci-fi geek, and we are in the 501st Division (the real Star Wars strormtroopers, etc. that you see at Disney World, parades, etc.) and he always wanted a Star Wars name. I would NOT go for Luke, or Anakin, or anything like that....so I came up with Saber.
His middle names are a tribute to my deceased grandmother. Her maiden name was Tyree (Scottish-a variation of Tyre, or McIntyre) and she died during my second pregnancy. I chose Phoenix to go along with it, because of the myth of the Phoenix, dying, and being reborn from the ashes. I would like to think that a part of her is reborn in my children.
  • Baby names
    My daughters name is

Emma Eliana- I chose this because my mom's bestfriends mother who watched me as a child and is practically my grandma the only one who was really around because all my grandparents died when I was young. Eliana we just fell in love with the name it means My god Answers me. My hubby wishes that was her first name but I couldn't picture her as anyone but an Emma. She is my little miss Emma. Even though I know it's like the most popular name right now in the USA and other countries it just has a sweet and old fashion flare too it. I LOVE IT!

If we would have had a boy it would have been either
    Ethan James
    or
    Christian James

I don't know why I kind of want to do all E's though for my children. Hubby doesn't like that idea though he like Christian James as a name.
  • Aphil - Do you pronounce Raiden "Rye-den"? I have a friend who named her son Raiden and I told her the only downside is that everyone is going to pronounce it incorrectly (like "Ray-den"). I thought it was cute though when her BIL suggested his middle name should be "Mower"!
  • Ooh, one of my favourite topics.

I put quite a lot of thought into the names we picked for our kids. We wanted names that could have a nickname...you can't get one with mine. We wanted ones that weren't too popular (at least at the time we picked them) as there were 3 kids with the same first name and same last initial in my third grade class...I hated it. We wanted to make sure though that one of their names, either first or middle, was "normal" in case they turned out to be very conservative lawyers or something...you never know. We didn't want made up names or ones spelled wrong. Meaning was important too. We thought about Tristan, but that means "riot" as in trouble, not as in funny.

Our first is William Dudley. William is the name of my husband's great grandpa who was a lord in England then ditched his title to move over here. Dudley is a LONG time family name, and my grandpa's first name. If you know your history you'll remember that Lady Jane Grey who was queen for 9 days before Bloody Mary had her beheaded was married to a Dudley, and the "virgin" queen was extra friendly with a Dudley...all distant relatives. We don't call him William though, we call him Liam which is the Scottish pet name for William. William has pretty much always been popular, but at the time, Liam wasn't anywhere near the top 100 names.

Our second is Tiernan Daniel. Tiernan can be shortened to plain T or Tie. Tiernan means "lordly" which goes well with the fact that Liam is named after a lord. Daniel is my father's middle name and the name of my baby brother that my mom lost when she was 8 months pregnant (severe stress they believe...she saw her best friend get hit in a car accident that broke her back and neck and almost killed her...not a common occurrence, no one needs to worry).

Oh, and our second wasn't named for sure till we were packed and ready to leave the hospital. I had a list of 3 names I would have been ok with, but my husband kept not being sure. I finally told him he either had to come up with his own name for the baby or pick one of my three. He decided on Tiernan, so that's what we've got.
  • My husband and I had a hard time deciding on names as well. For our oldest daughter Olivia Noel, we choose Olivia because it is pretty sounding and goes well with our last name and because it means peace. After 10 years of trying to conceive and finally being blessed with a successful pregnancy we thought peace was a well deserved name. Her middle name of Noel was chosen because we both love the holidays and I suggested Noelle and then we realized that my husband's name spelled backwards is Noel, so her name is after the holidays and my husband.

For our youngest daughter, Zoe Isabella, we choose Zoe quite by accident. We actually wanted something from Shakespeare since Olivia and Diana are names in his plays. However, dh was feeling my belly one night and said "wow, Zoe kicks hard" and I was like who is Zoe? We looked up the name and it meant "life" and since she was our second miracle we thought that was a fitting name. Isabella we choose because I liked the name Isabel when I heard it in a television show and Isabel did not sound right with Zoe until we added the a then it flowed with our last name.

    Have fun choosing!
    Diana
