  • Misty,

This really helps. You could be right that is why I am so full. the group that i went to in the beginning (in my pr-op stage they said i had vo vist two group sessions. one pre and one post) and accoring to the women and men there they swear by it. I think I will take your and Jiffy's opinion.

As for the drinking they said 15 mins before stop drinking and start again 1 1/2 hr after my meal. I think I like the 1/2 hr before and after and slack up with the meals.

My doctor said everything was fine when i saw him on 11/2/04 a month post op. My next doctors visit isnt until January unless something is wrong.
  • geri... i think you're basically doing very well, but some tweaks to your eating habits will help you over the long term... and we're here for you!!!

i'm concerned that you're measuring your protein shakes in terms of OUNCES of fluids and not GRAMS of protein. 4 oz of a protein shake made with water has less protein than 4 oz made with your soy milk or milk plus..

we've been told that we don't absorb more than about 20 grams of protein at any one sitting, so dividing it up makes sense. BUT you need to count the GRAMS, not the ounces of fluids..

and misty... i'm thinking that you're starting to eat a bit too late in the day!!!! by all means, start off with the tea at 6 [heavens knows i do too!!!!] but by 7:30 you should be having about 10-15 grams of protein - and a small protein shake would be just fine. and then around 10, have your egg or whatever breakfast.

i do it this way for a number of reasons, even nearly 3 years out, because if i don't have that 1/2 protein shake first thing in the morning, i'm munching by the end of the afternoon!!! it does SUCH a good job of stabilizing my blood sugar - i don't know if i'll ever be able to get off them for more than a couple of days. and that's just fine with me - whatever works!!!
  • I agree Jiff, but its hard to eat early in the day for me now, lol, never had a problem eating anything, anytime before!!
  • i understand... that's why the shake becomes important... it IS hard to eat in the mornings... i generally am up for at least an hour before actually eating - sometimes 3-4!!! but i manage because i start with the protein shake..

and i make sure i have it before i walk/hike with la poochie... ever since i had to bend down to tie my shoe and nearly fainted because my blood sugar was so low!!!
  • Thanks Jiff, I will try!
  • Hi Everyone, I'm new to this site but what I have read so far made me happy. I finely found a site where I might be able to find help and support with my WLS. I love you all. Thanks for being out there for us.
