After looking back through my food journal it looks as if I am getting somewhere between 30-50 grams of protein per day...and from what you all are saying that is way under...I guess that could explain alot for me, hair loss, no energy, etc....

I am not a big meat eater so I was wondering if a protein shake might not be a good idea...do any of you use these and if so what kind would you recommened?

    Thanks!
  • You CAN use protein shakes (there are hundreds out there - everyone's taste is different so you might need to experiment a bit). I personally get really bored with them rather quickly - and 'drinking a meal' doesn't satisfy me for long.

Cottage cheese is a *great* protein source. If you don't like the curds, do what I do - I get my Braun hand blender and cream it, smooth it out. You can add Splenda and vanilla extract to it to sweeten it, or add some light yogurt of whatever flavor. Very yummy!

Eggs are a great protein source as well. My breakfast always includes 1 whole egg plus 5 eggwhites.
  • You are right Mrs Jim, I should probably focus on getting protein in "actual foods" rather than have a shake...I really like cottage cheese so I will buy some of that and I tried to incorporate some pb in there too since I like that...
I ate like I regularly would yesterday and counted up my protein grams and I only had 32 for the whole day....I wonder if that is why I always feel sluggish and headachy? Well who knows, I am going to just get more protein period.
  • I've found that having a protein shake every morning is about the only way that I can get in over 80 grams of protein. What I do is I mix one packet of WW smoothie with one scoop of genisoy protein powder this is just pure protein powder...Genisoy also makes a protein shake mix that tastes good but is much lower in protein and higher in points. The pure protein powder that I use tastes terrible on its own but mixes well with the ww smoothie mix. I mix these two powders with 1 cup of water and some ice. This makes a very filling smoothie for 3 points and 40 grams of protein.
  • Great idea! That's a ton of protein right there. Hopefully the increase will help your hair (but I've read that it may take a while , like a few months).
  • Thanks everyone, that WW smoothie sounds like a good idea...I will try that...I sure need something
