Lush I'm glad to see that you understand the importance of taking up the slack while Kiwi's gone. Too bad that sis of yours is so irresponsible. DD found an even better apartment - It's $750 a month, but it's right on the Willamette river, 2 bedroom 2 bath, private balcony w/ river view, workout room, swimming pool, washer-dryer hookups (more important than the pool) and it's only 3 years old. I think I want to move there. She can have my house. Oh, and it has a private dock, so DH and I could visit her with our boat. Hee.

My family is having a reunion the 2nd weekend in Sept. Same weekend as the big rodeo. I don't think I'm going to go to either one. Why don't you have your own family bash and only invite the nice ones, Lush? It takes so much energy to deal with the negative ppl.

Painty, my DH's favorite thing to tell me when I'm working in the yard is "now don't overdo it...." I guess he gets tired of my whining the day after. Speaking of pictures, Painty, where are yours??... I want to see the results of those aches and pains.

YESTERDAY DS AND I JOINED A GYM. I DID IT SO HE'D GO AND TRY IT OUT. THE MAN ASKED ME IF I WAS OVER 60 AND I'M NOT SO I DON'T GET THE DISCOUNT AND I HATE HIM.

I REALLY NEED A LIFE. REALLY.

Cowsie-- DS said I'd like School of Rock... thanks for reminding me.
Wabbs-- Dh tells me not to overdo it, too. I think it's so he doesn't have to feel guilty for not helping! But I'm not good at predicting whether my sun burn will be first, second or third degree, and whether I'll be too sore to bend over for a day, a week or three weeks. So his warnings are helpful.

Will try to get photos up again over the weekend.

Sugar has landed
Oof. Well, that was fun. Even the part where the pilot of the small plane from Hannover to Frankfurt said we couldn't land because there was a thunderstorm over Frankfurt but that it was ok because we still had 30 minutes worth of fuel. Very reassuring. Made it to Vancouver all in one piece and only an hour late. Jet lag big time. Up at 5 a.m. to snack on chicken wings, as per usual. Stepped on the scale and I weigh less here than I did when we left Dullsville. Would a Canadian scale lie?

Parents' house is just sooooo cute. I want it. Kids are thrilled because the cats love them and the fridge makes ice cubes. And it only rained three times today. So far.

Excellent news about the kid moving out, Wabby!

Shame on that bad man for asking a lady's age.

anybody know a good place to stay in Chicago? And why do the room rates double on September 8 and 9? The jazz festival is the weekend before.... I don't get it....
I MUST begin walking and biking so I can do the zoo and botanical gardens...

Hi Sugar! Welcome to North America! so happy to hear that your fuel held out. Send some of that rain south - we're parched down here.

We rented School of Rock - never did get around to watching it, but we paid 2 late fees before I finally took it back to the movie rental store.

I worked all weekend in the yard - I hurt. I also have a lovely racer back tank top sunburn pattern on my back.

I also went to Bunco on Saturday night. I didn't win, but I ate and drank lots. Chicken caciatore (sp?), caesar salad, garlic bread & lemon merengue pie. We bunco women know how to eat. One of my fellow bunco-ers brought her 2 week old baby boy! Soooo cute. Thank goodness it's not me who is the 40 yr old mother of a 2 week and 1 yr. old!!!

Hi Hi Hi I'm back!!
We had a great time. I'm sunburned. Didn't kill anyone on board. DD and her friend were excellent, very helpful. They did a lot of the boat duties so I could sit around and whine about my achy tooth. Blues Festival was good -- really enjoyed Taj Mahal. He performed with a band called the Hula Blues Band. They had 3 old white guys in Hawaiian shirts playing ukeleles. Most entertaining.

It's very nice of you all to miss me. Glad that Sugar landed safely in Canada. Super glad that Wabbit's uninvited guest has been removed!!

That's rather sweet. I don't recall ever hearing those words from my dh. Probably he's never seen me in much danger of overdoing.

Sheesh, what a dimwit. At least he didn't ask you if DS was your grandson . So, how do you like the gym? You should ask someone there to show you a good weight circuit routine. Weights are wonderful.

Kiwi, I'm so glad you didn't kill anybody. I'm not sure how much computer access you'd get in prison and we need you around here.

The store with the shoes was called "Shoe Sense" and it has sensible shoes....birkenstocks or the like. Mine are danish and sure are ugly. But, I'm a new woman. It isn't just that they are soft and absorb shock. They also don't rub. They're better than sneakers.

Painty, we're never going to be able to "eat freely" isn't that depressing????????

I thought School of Rock was funny. Not hysterical, but funny. I hear Anchorman isn't as funny as expected. I'm sad about that because I saw Elf twice, I thought it was so funny.

Bagzie, my boys have had a few friends get chunky before puberty. My buddy with the same name as yours put her whole family on a health kick when her son bulked up. She stopped buying junk. They started doing all active things. Her son looks great...he's about 14 now. They never said a word to him.

My other son's friend is now going though this. Both parents are rails and don't understand. They are teasing him about the pudge and about other signs that his bod is changing. He refuses to swim; he won't take his shirt off. The boys play shirts and skins b-ball and he is ashamed to be a skin. It is a sin because he isn't FAT...he's just got that pre-puberty belly.

I just had my kitchen table measured for a glass top. Now I have to find a good centerpiece for it. I always used a bowl of fruit, but they stopped farming the orchard next door and now we are prone to fruit flies if we leave fruit out. So, suggestions, please. That end of my house is danish modern. So, no dried flowers.

My reunion with my cousins went very nicely. We had fun. We're doing genealogy on that side of the family. It's fun. My other side was on the internet. (Bagzie's maiden name and Kiwi's married name are both extensively researched, too). It's pretty easy that way. On my mother's side, we have to look things up. I said I'd do the typing so that I don't have to do any of the boring research.

Peaches, jocks are stupid. That is why the gym guy said that.

Welcome back to dry land, Kiwi. We are just an aimless wandering herd without you. Good news that the DH made it out alive.

I'm trying to convince my head that it doesn't need to hang onto this headache. It's been way hot around here and I don't do well in the heat. We did have some blessedly cool thunderstorms in the middle of the night, so this morning is cool and sweet.

Today is Mr. Wabby's 49th birthday. I don't know how I managed to be married to such an old coot. I bought him a couple new summery shirts and some new cologne. For such a he-man kind of guy he sure does love his scents. To make him happy, just buy him some cologne or some fancy manly scented soap. He even spends $16 for his special cologne matching deodorant.

I want some cute comfortable sandals. I have a couple of my very favorites, but they're starting to look a little ratty. Why didn't I buy multiples when I found these??

Bagzie, take DS's weight gain seriously. My DD started getting a little pudgy when she was about 12. I kept thinking she would grow out of it, and I didn't get a handle on it early - now her weight has become a big issue in her life. I really wish I'd been more pro-active when she first started gaining. I think the main thing is to get rid of the junk food in the house and get him moving. Hmm. Maybe I should do that for myself. tee-hee.

Lush, you're so Martha Stewarty. Centerpiece? I have a pile of bills and stuff in the center of my table. How about a bowl of glass fruit or a centerpiece of blown glass flowers? My brother's ex girlfriend posted a family tree thing of my family on the web. She got it all wrong, she put down my other brothers she-devil live in woman as his wife and mother of his 2 oldest children, which she is not, and she has my brother listed as the father of the she-devil's oldest child, which he is not. She also forgot to list my older brother's 2 oldest children and marriage. Oh well. Our family tree is sooooo twisted.

Ooooh. It's time for another mega-dose of Advil. Did I mention that they're doing our annual summer road construction out in front of our shop? It's loud and dusty and I'm already sick of it. And none of these construction workers look buff. And they all keep their shirts on.

That's a tough call, Bagz. I think most kids (who aren't insanely skinny) go through pudgy periods that precede growth spurts, but if it's more than that, you wouldn't want to ignore it. Of course, you wouldn't want to make him go on a diet either. There are a lot of things you can do to discourage bad habits, though. Not allowing food in front of the computer or video games, or in bedrooms can cut down on the "unconscious" snacking, if he does that. And I wouldn't keep soda of any kind in the house, if I were you. Of course, I don't know his eating habits, so what help am I?

Went to the big city today for DD's orthodontist appt, took 2 of her friends and we had a shopping and movie day. Good time. Saw Harry Potter, which was much fun. Bought a couple of tops, a pair of shorts, a bra and a cheap pair of sandals (couldn't find anything really ugly ). Everything on sale. Had never been to Talbot's before; they were having a big sale. They have some nice stuff, very nice fabrics. I got the tops there, 2 for $23. They are very lahdeeda considering I spent so little there: the sales slip comes in a cute little envelope, and they wrap your purchase in tissue and put a sticker on it. Definitely going back there...

Had half of a lovely garlic and spinach for dinner. Wow, I should be exuding garlic from all pores for days.
