  • thanks....
Thanks StarPrincess for the tip on cleaning. I'll think of that tip when I clean the toilet!!!...LOL but on the other hand, I am in the middle of 3 loads of laundry and doing some cleaning. I made the mock potatoe salad....boy oh boy is it good!!! and easy to make.

1/2 head of cauliflower, boiled, chilled and then diced
    1/4 C mayo
    1 tsp french's mustard
    1 tsp lemon juice
chopped onion to taste (in a pinch sprinkle onion soup mix)

thats it. Enjoy!! serves 3- 1 C servings
  • I've heard of that - the low carbers in my area call anything that uses cauliflower instead of potatoes "fauxtatoes". Glad you liked it! Happy toilet cleaning!
  • Well the snow is melted now...just a bit left on the grass, but it looks cold dark and dismal out there....soon time to go home (after "chauffeur" duties for kids pickup of course).

The weird thing is tomorrow it's supposed to be 15 degress (that's about 60 degrees for you yankees ) and today is like -1.

The Bat mitzvah is scheduled for dec 13th - the culmination of a year's studying and planning...still need to get dd's evening dress and shoes/accessories. Eldest son has dress clothes as does youngest. Dh need to go get his suit taken in due to his low carb weight loss! (36 waist and he now wears a 32-33 so the pants are falling off!).

In the am there is a service at synagogue - I will probably wear a suit or skirt/blazer combo. In the evening is a sit down dinner party at downtown hotel w/dj and cake and goodies. Not sure what to wear in the evening...so maybe I will take angel eyes' advice and look for something new?

I do have a gorgeous dress I wore years ago which I think will now fit me once again? Just had it dry cleaned and need to try it on: cream colored chiffon, with a drop waist (lined with pearls)..and two flounces at the bottom (which twirl when you dance). Top of dress also has random pearls scatted over the front...makes me feel like a princess when I wear it!

I have another pink chiffon thing..straight dress with a fake/attached jacket thing..all pink except for sequins/beading at top of both shoulders - this should also fit?

Or I may go for something new in basic black with sparkles or something? Have another bar mitzvah to go to on Nov 15th and not sure what to wear to that either!

    I'm hungry now!

  • Jamlinrich yes, its such a special group here, and just think we've bonded so quickly, this forum only started what a month ago or so?

    WAY TO COOL!!!!
  • Froufy - it all sounds absolutely lovely! And if that cream chiffon dress fits now, wear it to the bar mitzva, because it will be too big for your daughter's bay mitzva. I'm so excited for you!

Now for my exciting news. But some background first. In addition to my full time job, I'm a criminal justice student with aspirations to one day be a homicide investigator. About 6 months ago, I applied for a corrections officer job in my county. It's a big step in the right direction and would help me learn more about personalities and such. Also, the physical exam for police is too hard for me right now (runnning 1 1/2 miles, sit ups, push-ups, jumping) so corrections was great.

I did the testing 2-ish months and 20 pounds ago. The physical part was strictly pass/fail and consisted of running up a flight of stairs, down the longest hallway ever created and back (a little over 1/4 mile), and then dragging a 185 pound sled for 100 feet. I kid you not - I thought I was going to die. I have never pushed myself to the point of throwing up and I'm still not sure how I kept it down. But - success! - I passed! I had one tenth of a second to spare, but I passed the damn thing. I didn't regain my normal face color for over 2 hours

The second part was some written tests that are used to rank the applicants. They told us that there were about 200 - 250 people testing and that there are currently 5 positions open. We could expect that if they passed background investigations, the top 30 would be called in for interviews first.

So, after a nerve-wracking 2-ish months, the results came in the mail today. I'm ranked number 28!!!! I'm so excited that I could just piddle. DH is applying, too and he ranked number 11. Just wanted to share - I'm doing a big huge happy dance right now.

  • Great job, StarPrincess!! Keep us updated on how the interview goes. What an exciting line of work! Good luck on everything!

  • Star - GREAT NEWS!!!! But now you perplex me even more! You like sentimental gifts, you consider yourself a princess AND YET you want to be a homicide investigator? You are too much!!!!! I can't even watch TLC's A Baby Story - let alone any cop shows.

I have a game (a real serious game) called "Situations" for my 7 yr old dd - which is cards that depict some crazy criminal type situations kids might find themselves in and helps parents discuss how to help their kids survive if faced with those types of situations. I hate even playing it - but I've noticed my dd REALLY being more aware of her surroundings and paying closer attention to things in our neighborhood.

Froufy - I agree you shoudl wear the cream chiffon if it fits you now and splurge and buy a new dress for your dd's big day. Sounds like you have such a busy month ahead of you! Congrats!

Great to see all the new faces here.
  • LOL - sorry, Kim. I know I make no sense whatsoever. I blame it on being a libra - I have a tendency towards extremes while searching for balance. I also come from a family of adrenaline junkies. My older brother is a fire fighter and the youngest brother is going to school to be an ER surgeon. His schooling has been really helpful for me because it gave me the opportunity to attend some autopsies. I wanted to be sure I could handle it and it turns out that I can.

This all started because I used to work in child protection and after attending a seminar on child death investigations, I wanted to do something about it that it just kindof became my "calling"
  • So many of you have great things to be proud of so CONGRATULATIONS to all of you. I love to hear all of your successes. I would congratulate you all individually but I only have a few minutes online tonight.

for those that fell off the wagon, tomorrow is a new day.
  • CONGRATULATIONS STAR!
Wow Star - congratulations to both you and your hubby. Great job, and keep up the good work - I hope you both attain your dreams. (I could never be present at an autopsy....I am impressed with your fortitude).

I will try on cream chiffon dress and let you know if, and how loose it is...last time I tried it on it was tight across the tummy - good to stand in - but if I sit down - very uncomfortable and unflattering (I guess I could just stand or dance all night? )

I really like it loose (it swirls better that way ) so may save it for the big day and wear something else on the 15th??? Or who knows...with all the beautfiul evening wear around prior to the holidays I may just pick up something new!

I hear big rain/ice pelting bedroom window as I type and still have to pick up ds from school meeting - why the heck would they not have cancelled it?

Drinking water and trying to stay out of the kitchen!

    Have a great night.

    Froufy

P.S. I went back to school a few years back at the ripe old age of XXX (secret information), encouraged by dh who made me apply for my MBA...After 4 long and grueling years (I did it part time while working full time) I graduated last June with a Master's Degree in Business Administration (specialy in marketing),! (also had a baby in there somewhere - #3). I am thrilled that I actually accomplished this and my diploma is proudly displayed in my office for everyone to see (I'm so modest ). Also got my my new (better paying job) and opened the door to future exciting opportunities - the moral of the story is - it's never too late!
  • Star! Congrats!! That is terrific! I love to see people who follow their dreams and do what it takes to get there.

Ok.. I went shopping today, but didnt come home with much.. I didnt have enough time before I had to pick up DD from schooL! But I did get new bras and the new Bon Jovi CD.. and I am obsessed! THis happens with every Bon Jovi CD.. but This has to be one of the best they have ever done IMHO! They remade 12 of their songs, and now I feel like the songs I loved as a teen have all grown up with me! Man I love these guys!

I didnt get on my treadmill today.. I have been frantically hunting down pictures and Ideas for victorian gowns. I have been asked by a doll manufacturer to create at least 2 crocheted victorian dresses for 18 inch dolls. I am really excited about it.. but it is a little daunting.. right down to the cages they wore under the dresses!! I'll post pics when I narrow it down and actually get some dresses created!

But I am heading to the gym tomorrow first thing.. so I plan to work out a bit longer than normal!

    anyway that is the scoop!
