  • Just in from finishing the logs and it's only just falling dark (18:21). Spring is wonderful.

Thanks to Bill for making me think more about woollen garments.

Re jumpers/jerseys/sweaters, I realise that we over here in the Old World have three particularly special ones associated with islands: the Aran, the Fair Isle and the Guernsey. Jersey is also an island, of course.

Fascinating stuff and lots to learn. I had wondered whether I should take up knitting when I'm not so busy. The only person in our family who knits/knitted was my grandfather, also an islander, who made his socks. My dad just mended his own clothes.
  • Birchie, I took up knitting two years ago. I mainly do afghans (blankets) but have done a couple other little things (with little success). I do find it relaxing and I knit while watching TV at night--it helps me stay awake through shows!

I am a fair weather golfer. That said, we came to Mesquite, Nevada for a tournament with friends. I had to buy not only rain gear, but also a sweater to stay warm. The first four holes were brutal--high winds, rain and cold temperatures. I didn't buy golf gloves and kept wrapping my hands in towels to stay warm between hits, but it was still hard to grip the club. Thankfully, it all stopped and the rest of the day was cool, but fun AND I won closest to the hole on one hole!!!
