  • Hi, I think all of the advice given is great. I struggle with this, too. For me, after having stalled weight loss or gains for the last couple of months, I'm moving to not having anything tempting within eyeshot. I live with a roomate so I can't help what foods he has, but I can control what I have in the cupboard. I've tried buying snack foods and "limiting" my serving, but so far I haven't been successful doing that. The limited "snack" would turn into a full -on binge.

Also, I've asked my roommate to keep food in his room (even foods I've bought for myself) and I've actually snuck in there while he was sleeping to get the snacks...not my proudest moment, for sure.

I'm trying out gum as an alternative, as well as celery and carrots. But, plain veggies don't really do it for me. I'm thinking of trying it with a little bit of PB or wholly guacamole, or even plain Greek yogurt. I'll implement these this week or next if I have a craving. Hope this helps and good luck!
  • I used to stop eating after 7 but trying to go to bed feeling hungry wasn't good for me mentally, I allow for a 100-150 calorie snack and a hot drink in the evening
  • Quote: What works for me is going to bed early, but that's not always possible with kids. I would say if you have no responsibilities in the evening, go to bed early and wake up early. Avoid watching TV late at night.
This... I started going to bed right after my kiddo (bed time 8pm). So I found that I am often too busy getting ready for the next day to really eat anything. Also I take my fiber pills at night in the middle of dinner. It helps me fill full.
  • I binge eat at nibht also and it definitely is because I'm sitting up watching TV. I have a reminder that goes off at 7:30 PM everynight. I wanted to try Nd not eat after 8pm so when the alarm goes off I know I have a half hour to eat cor the rest of the night.
I did it great cor about month ...saw that I didnt lose 1 lb and fell off the wagon again....
  • I just go cold turkey. Dinner is over, no more calories before bed. I understand if it's too hard for you, but anytime I lost weight successfully it's just what I had to do.
  • I freeze greek yogurt and eat that after dinner. It is hard (because it is frozen! ) so it takes me a long time to eat it (an hour sometimes). 80 calories (the light yogurt), is sweet and yummy and is good for me. Win/win!

But what about keeping it off successfully? Has that ever worked for keeping it off and not gaining it back?
  • I would like to jump in here and give my opinion on that, Palestrina. If eating at night is just a bad habit, and not from hunger, it may seem difficult at first because your body is accustomed to getting that extra food. But if you do it long enough, it will become a new habit that you will never go back to, as long as you had enough to eat at dinner to keep you from feeling hungry. And therefore, you shouldn't regain any weight you lost as a result. If you continually get hungry in the evening, real hunger, then you must not be eating enough at dinner. It doesn't have to be a hard and fast rule. If you get hungry, eat.
