  • Quote: Good morning all☺️
I hope your WI's go well today ladies, it's that day for me also.

I start w3 in the morning and I can honestly say it feels soooo good. I added a few workouts this week and have so much energy. I also had an exta IP right before and right after my workouts which gave me a boost. I feel tighter this week too and I'm curious to see what my body analysis says.
My friends laugh at me because I am a geneticist and they say "only you would try to train your body" because through trial and error I'm trying to figure out if I can fit in a few workouts a week with ectra IPs and still keep my body in ketosis.

At any rate, I feel really good this morning.

What are some of your favorite IPs? I get to shop for more today. I am really feeling the chocolate shakes, brocolli cheese soup and premade puddings, but I may get bored with just that all week, lol
Fav IP products... Chocolate mint bar, peanut crunch bar, vanilla RMD (with espresso in it'), and the soy nuts! Yum, now I am hungry!
  • Quote: So happy! My first weigh-in was Saturday and I lost 10lbs, 6.2lbs of fat! Crazy Aside from feeling a little naseous today, I feel much better than I did the first week.
Awesome job! Keep up the great work!

Kimo, Congrats on the size 12 pants! That must feel fantastic!

My Favorite IP packets: Restricted: Strawberry Wafer, Lemon Wafer, Peanut Butter Bar
Non Restricted: Peach Mango Drink, Chili, Chocolate Drink, Maple Oatmeal
  • Just came back from my first weigh-in and lost 9.6 pounds and 4 inches!! After gaining so much weight so quickly, I'm relieved to see the scale going down! And this is with TOM, so I'm very happy!!
  • Beck Diet Solution Daily Tip (and more)
So many great WI reports today.
    Congrats to all!

I've been remiss in posting these Beck Daily Tips. Here is yesterday and today:
    • January 20, 2015 - Tuesday Reality Check

So much of the discomfort of feeling hunger is psychological, not physical. People get hungry and catastrophize, thinking, “Oh no, this is terrible. I’m hungry and it’s going to get so much worse before I can eat again.” It’s crucial to keep in mind that hunger comes and goes, it does not just get worse and worse until you can’t tolerate it. That’s not how hunger works!
      • Another tip I've read in the book: "just" say: it's okay, it is just hunger. I won't starve to death between lunch and dinner. I will eat again at x:xx and I will be fine until then.
    • January 19, 2015 - Monday Motivation

Getting off track with dieting can be very discouraging, but it doesn't need to be. If you were learning to play the piano and hit a wrong key, you would never take that as a sign to give up completely. Mistakes happen in ALL areas of life but keep practicing and you'll continue improving.
Quote: really struggling to stay OP lately. Just really need prayers for my continued success and strength to stay with it. Will post my WI after lunch.
It can be hard to stick to a plan for a long time. Diet burn-out can set in. When I get in those frames of mind, I've learned to remind myself that I have 2 choices. I can stay on P1 and continue to lose or I can phase off and work on maintenance. Eating whatever I want whenever I want isn't one of the two choices. That is what got me in the mess in the first place. And when I realize that maintenance is just another phase of the plan and also takes careful planning, I'm more willing to stick to P1.

I'm not exactly sure what your personal struggle is but this has helped me.

If you can, you might want to consider getting some extra boxes so you have more variety. To name a few, I'm fond of the dark chocolate pudding mix, the potato puree and the oatmeal (because I can make recipes). I also like crunchy/salty so I like chips.

Quote: my size 12 jeans fit...12's!! I've been overweight my whole life and I've never been a size 12 in my adult life.
I can so relate. I haven't been in 12s in my adult life either. How fantastic! Congrats! I'm dancing for you!
I may need a panniculectomy (lower tummy tuck) if I were ever to fit into 12s again. There is definitely a spare tire of skin that doesn't go away when I lose weight.

Thank you for this. Among other things it has reminded me to getting back to reading this book.
  • Quote: Jstbkuz - others with more experience can chime in here but as long as your extra food is all protein, you should stay in ketosis. I worked out while in P1 after the 1st month, very tired for a while, it took time to adjust and to figure out when to eat - for me, I couldn't eat before, just after.
Last week I playedbaskedball without anything before and I was drained. This week it actually gave me more strength to have an IP right before and having one right after replenished me. I lost 2.6 this week but my coach thinks had I not worked out I would of lost more. I was actually very happy with that loss considering I also lost 5 inches too. So I am going to try just walking this week and not elevating my heart rate.

Quote: Rayze congrats on losing in P2!!

justbkuz - Everyone's tastes are different but I usually do cappacino, chocolate, and wildberry yogurt drinks. Then I love the BBQ crisps - it's easy to bring for lunch when you're on the go, I like the chicken and mushroom soups, and pretty much all of the restricted items haha!

I had my weigh in yesterday, down 4lbs and 2% BF!! I'm so excited. I shopped my closet this morning and my size 12 jeans fit...12's!! I've been overweight my whole life and I've never been a size 12 in my adult life. I did quite a happy dance, I think my dog thought I was insane. Now I have to go get them hemmed ASAP before I'm a 10. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday!
OH MY GOSH I Love the restricted items, I cannot wait to have them, lol. It's what keeps me motivated everyday, just to have that treat and it's allowed, lol. I need to try to cappuccino drink, I forgot to grab one I just got the chicken noodle soup, is that theone you like? There is also just a chicken soup. Great job on the big loss and fitting into those jeans. I never wear jeans because I havea booty and I can never find anything that works, but lulu yoga pants work, lol.

Quote: jstbkuz - what kind of workouts are you doing? I need to get my butt in gear!
    -----------------------------------
Alright ladies, I am getting SO bored with my food. I need to spice it up a bit. Anyone have any great websites or anything? The recipe threads are a bit overwhelming...
I play basketball once a week and then do crossfit. Last year I wanted to gain muscle so I joined crossfit for that reason, now I have lots of muscle but I just wanna loose the fat layers, lol.
Do you have a vegetable spiraler? I got one to make zoodles (zucchini noodles) and it's actually good in anything.

Quote: Love the BBQ soy nuts, brownie and pre made chocolate pudding....yummy
Not a huge fan of the soups, but like the chicken once in a while. I love the chocolate chip pancakes and have made them into muffins too.
I have the soy nuts but have yet to try them, I am going to do that this week! Thanks!

Quote: I really like the IP chicken soup over the broccoli cheese... I feel like I can mix it up more than with the others. One time I added peppers and fajita meat to it and made more of a Tex-Mex tasting soup, and some days I will just add some broccoli when I need something basic. I feel like it has a better "base" taste than some of the other soups, so you can jazz it up a bit more with spices and veggies.

I also like doing half an orange and half a peach-mango drink. It doesn't taste SUPER different from either drink on their own, but it breaks up the monotony without having to buy more products. I LOVE the lemon wafers and will be trying a sample pack of the rotini soon--hope it's good!! I can picture eating that with a little vinegar, cucumbers, onions, and whatever else to make a pasta salad. YUM!
I just had the rotini and while it wasn;t horrible, I just am not a pasta girl. I need to try the lemon wafers, I always look at them and wonder if they are any good. I wasn't a fan of the peach-mango and I bought 2 so I have one kicking around for when I feel adventurous, lol

Those Bars are my fav too! Haven't tried that vanilla RMD or soy nuts

Great job!!! Amazing week for you.

I stayed the same this week, no loss except I did lose 1.2 lbs of fat and gained muscle so things are shifting. I guess some weeks there's no loss just a change in distribution. I will take it!

Can someone remind me why coaches say this again? I.e., how does working out cause us to lose LESS weight? Is it because of the extra protein or packet that we compensate with? I feel like I should get this, but ….

    Re: potato puree
My favorite ways to use this are either to make bread or muffins (recipe here) or mix it with caulimash & have it for lunch with salad and a naturally fermented pickle on the side.

It sure seems like working out should HELP, doesn't it?? It does, in the long run.
In a nutshell (Reader's Digest version), workouts cause temporary inflammation, which is water weight.
In the LONG RUN, exercise is great and learning to live a healthy lifestyle can never happen too soon. We just have to be careful how strenuous our workouts are, especially if our bodies aren't used to working out.

In the short-run, exercise can delay the scale. BUT, it is only scale weight. Fat loss is still occurring. The scale weighs everything, not just fat. Measuring tape should move quicker even if scale is slowed.

Any coach giving someone "crap" for "only" losing 2.6 lbs in one week isn't an incredibly supportive, effective or knowledgeable coach IMO.
  • I agree, Mimi! It doesn't make sense to me at all!!
  • Quote: Can someone remind me why coaches say this again? I.e., how does working out cause us to lose LESS weight? Is it because of the extra protein or packet that we compensate with? I feel like I should get this, but ….
    There are a few reasons.

When you exercise, your muscles repair afterward and retain water in the process. Retained water = more weight on the scale

When you burn calories and do not replenish them with additional food, your body will bug out and cling to its reserves, so instead of losing more weight it can stall the scale.

You have to remember that Ideal Protein does two things: 1) lowers your carb intake enough to deplete your glycogen stores so that your body switches over to burning fat for fuel -AND-
    2) lowers your calories BELOW what is normally recommended for dieters (IP puts you at about 600-900 calories...a normal weight loss diet has you eating between 1100-1500 calories) in order to create the calorie deficit that results in the dramatic weight loss.

It's the low calories that inhibits the ability to exercise, not being in ketosis. Too few calories paired with too much activity is not healthy for the body to sustain. That's why it's SUPER important to add a packet even if you do mild exercise or have a day when you're on your feet a lot more than normal.
  • Congratulations on all the WI and NSVs! Rayze, congrats on moving to P3!

My favorite IP packets--and I always had several extra boxes around so I had something to choose from--

not restricted: tomato rotini; butterscotch pudding; potato puree; broccoli soup; mushroom soup; mango RTD; BBQ chips; cheese omelet mix; wildberry yogurt drink.

restricted: strawberry and lemon wafers; chocolate coconut bar
  • Thank you, lisa and scorbett. I unintentionally had a pretty intense 1.5-hour long cardio workout today. Though I had an egg right after (and then lunch shortly after that), in retrospect, it would've been good for me to have had a shake or bar right before (or even during) this session -- definitely felt the low-caloric nature of IP! Will now drink extra water to try to rid my body of the water it's retaining. Ha ha -- yet another IP truth that is the opposite of what it seems should be the case!
