  • Quote: Is doing alternative really that much cheaper? I was thinking about letting my daughter (teenager) try the diet but I was going to wait until I was off of Phase 1 because it would be too expensive with 2 people in the house on it at once! (BTW- is there a thread about teenagers doing IP - we haven;t thought or researched the whole thing through, but she is seeing me lose weight and wants to also!).
    Thanks!
The products are about 1/3 the cost of IP products. But what you DON'T get is any kind of coaching or accountability. For some people, they can handle doing it without a coach, it takes willingness to research on your own when you have questions, find ways to stay accountable to yourself. For others, they need the structure and accountability of a trained coach to guide them through the program.

    Thanks Scorbett1103,
I think she should be able to do it without a coach - me as her coach. Does anyone know if its safe for a teenager. I would think so, but want to double check. Thanks!

That's probably a better question for her pediatrician. If she's still got growing to do, the nutrition deficit might be a problem - IP is NOT a nutritionally balanced program.

I read somewhere that kids or teenagers should not be on the diet, but I would check with the doctor and perhaps do the Alternative plan, which is what was said if the kids had some kind of medical reason that they should be on the plan, then that's what they should use. (google IP phase 1 alternative)
I also have a teenager who wants to lose weight (for no reason mind you), but when she found out all of the things I couldn't eat, she changed her mind and just chose to try to eat healthier and has me cook the same for her for dinner. Of course I am no expert. Doing this on my own so I have been doing lots of reading. Hope this helps.
