how to lose (or at least maintain) during vacation

  • Bringing the scale helps. Also only splurge on amazing things and watch your portions!
  • Hm, rather than the scales, then, bring a pair of pants that you can use as your "standard" (I use a pair of jeans, but any piece of clothing that does the trick may work just as well). Or maybe a tape measure. To see if you're gaining inches or are bloated from too much eating. Not that the scale itself is bad; I'm rather thinking of luggage weight in airports, and of the extra cost if it makes you go over the allotted weight.

Since your resort has a gym, maybe *they* have scales you can use there, too?

Thats a great suggestion! Scales (in addition to being bulky and somewhat impractical to pack) can mislead you anyway; you may bloat due to traveling/sodium and using a scale at a gym can freak you out if it's not properly calibrated and shows you as being heavier than your normal scale at home does.

I think it's best just to go enjoy yourself responsibly, have some really delicious treats in moderation, stay active, and weigh yourself on your own scale once you get home and have had a chance to let your body return to normal.
  • I have a 9 day road trip planned this month and am concerned also. There have been some good suggestions here that I plan to use. Eat healty when I can and when that isn't an option I will limit the portions.

Hope you have a good and safe trip.
  • I think try and make obvious healthy choices. Only drink water and diet sodas, dont eat the deep fried food and maybe share a dessert with a family member.

I am going on two holidays this year, each only 3 days (3 months apart) i plan on eating and drinking what i want for those days then paying for it .
  • I love this post! We have a week long family reunion next month at Disney. For some reason when I'm on vacation I always go way overboard on fried food... Crispy chicken sandwich and french fries seem to be my go-to for some reason. I guess because I don't usually "let" myself eat that way. My rule this trip will be grilled chicken only and choose a healthier side. I'm also planning to pack healthier snacks like fresh fruit. I don't want to feel bloated and miserable halfway through the trip!
