  • unfortunately no no pool was happy to find a gym that is only 20 bucks a month lol alot cheaper than buying equip plus with membership the "trainer" adviser is free
  • Hey, Bear, I hope you'll join us on the August exercise thread--up at the top in the stickies.
  • Whew well the mind and heart are in the right direction now if i can get my body to keep up. so have eaten some bean salad and some egg tofu stuff some fruit and alot of water and figured id hit the gym as my plan dictates, well after a mile on the treadmill i was gonna do a mile on the bike and a 30 minute circuit, well lets just say after a mile fast walk the bike and 30 minute circuit went out the window.

damn i feel like crud but i know its a good crud, lol .

guess my delusions of still being He-Man are shattered. now its time to keep going and work my way up to He-man again.

did my treadmill for a 20 min mile and heart rate was steady between 140 and 145 for 17:32 of the 20.

the only real disappointment i had was seeing the calories burned meter say less than 100. nut alas that is a generic meter and doesn't know me or my body so i prolly burned more (i hope)
  • You have to start somewhere! I noted on the exercise thread that we all have to start somewhere and I think it's better to be realistic than to set impossible goals!

SO you did 20 min today. Do 20 min every day this week and then move it to 30 min. And revel in your improvements!
  • Way to go, Bear! Stick with it - the exercise part gets easier pretty quickly. Whenever I start back up again, when I finish a workout I want to puke. Your body just has no idea what is going on! But after a couple of them, it figures it out.

As for calories burned in walking - there are lots of good online calculators - I punched your info into this one
    http://www.prohealth.com/weightloss/...culator1_2.cfm
and depending on exactly how you fall you should have burned off between 250 -450 calories in the 20 minutes you did. So that's pretty cool!

And remember, even if you aren't burning a load of calories, there is a huge health benefit to routine daily aerobic exercise. Stronger heart, stronger lungs, more energy, stablized blood sugar. And for a lot of folks around here, when they feel good from exercising it is easier to meet their eating goals as well. Can't guarantee that will be the case for you, but.

Also, don't forget, if you work your way up to burning a lot of calories through structured exercise each day, make sure you are getting enough calories and protein so that you aren't running out of steam in your workouts - and remember, your body will crave more calories if you are working out hard - just remember to feed it the "good" stuff when you are adding back in some calories (lean protein, complex carbs, lots of fiber).

Sorry for the "book" - I really am excited that your journey has begun!
