So Frustrated!

  • I agree Lin, it's all about healthy decisions and so far, I think I'm making them. My father in law does atkins, but he eats a roll up of meat and cheese for breakfast and for lunch and then eats chicken/bacon and a salad for dinner. That's not what I want to do, it's great that it works for him and all the other people on the plan. . . it's just not for me.

Nekomania, you wouldn't believe the difference 60 pounds makes (or, you might)! I'm already feeling like a completely new person. My clothes fit so much better (I went shopping!), my confidence is annoyingly through the roof, I dont get winded from walking around the grocery store, my knees and back dont hurt just walking 20 ft to the mail box. . . it's been great! I dont feel like all I want to do anymore is hide in my apartment, but I actually enjoy going outside and doing things again.

And yeah, she has yet to acknowledge my total sum as of now for my loss, she just looks at the amount since the last visit and that's where I think she thinks "You should have lost more." But you know honestly (and this might make some of y'all mad) I haven't even entered exercise into my routine yet. Our Wii got packed because we're moving and I'm a full time college student sitting on my butt studying for 10-12 hours a day. Aside from the 5 minute walk from the parking lot to my classroom, I don't do anything physical. After our move on the 15th, I'll get into a good routine exercise wise and hopefully watch my numbers drop more!
  • I'm sure adding exercise to your routine will make a big difference. In how you lose and in how you feel. Just keep up the great work.

  • I just wanted to say you are doing GREAT!
  • My doctor is not like that. Even if I've only lost 15lbs since the last time I saw her (which is really more like I gained 30lbs and then lost 45lbs, but she doesn't know that), she's so... encouraging. I'll say, "Oh I've only lost 15lbs and this is horrible...blah blah blah" and she says, "Stop! You're doing great. Keep it up. 15lbs is still weight lost and will add up over time. It's better to lose 15lbs than stay the same, or gain."

However, I don't have any real health problems (borderline, yes, so that is a concern). Perhaps your doctor is just trying to encourage you to keep working at it, however misguided because she should definitely emphasis your good work. Yes, it's slow, but you are moving at a much faster pace than I have ever been able to manage. Most people do not have that kind of success.

Sometimes doctors are just as clueless about obese patients losing weight than "regular" people... it's a constant struggle. People always think they have some insight but they really have no idea what it's actually like (my husband included).
