  • Starbrite,

What kinds of foods were you eating? What type of exercises and how many days/week? When you say "low carb", how many carbs is that? How much water were you drinking each day? Did you drink anything else (crystal light, tea, diet soda....)?
  • In my gallivanting-off-the-wagon period, I totally missed this. CONGRATS!!!! You have done a mind-blowing job.
  • Wow congrats......People like you and others here that have met their goal weight keeps me motivated. I am so glad I am a part of this forum. Have fun with your new outlook on a healthy life.
  • Thanks everyone- I do feel great, and am just looking at ways to maintain without stressing about losing more!
Anyhoo - here is how I did it
Firstly decide whether you really want to commit to this. This is the only way it will work. No cheating, stealing a chip here, licking the spoon there. If you want to, you truly can. Second sugar is the enemy right now- you don't need any in your life, so don't let any in. Thirdly get creative. You can eat any form of protein, and any veg except root veg. Fourthly invest in a good water bottle, and drink far more water than you feel you need- upwards of 4 litres a day. I like mine cold so I make sure i have ice wherever I go.
Next- set yourself small achievable goals. I did mine in 10lbs increments. So if you want to lose say 40lbs, you do 4 x 10lbs. It helps break down the goal into steps where you can see results. Reward yourself with a non food goal.
Plan, plan and plan. If you are going out, plan for it. Know what you can and can't eat and stick to it. Do not deviate from the plan you set yourself.
Listen to your body. If you are not hungry, then you don't need to eat. Sounds simple, but people eat for many reasons apart from being hungry
Write down and calorie count the foods you eat - I use an app called My net diary. It charts the calories and carb counts of foods and tells me what I have left to eat. I never eat up uneaten calories- I include these in my deficit. Find a good online support group- I subscribe to the daily weighing thread and they have been amazing . That has got me out of many a sticky time when I have been tempted or just plain confused as to why I have not lost, or even had a small gain.
Weigh every day and chart your weight- this helps you understand your body and know when you fluctuate. This in turn allows you to understand that weight loss is not linear. Tell everyone that notices that you are changing the way you eat. Don't let others derail you through their own body image and the one they have of yours.
Last of all believe in yourself- you can do this
  • Congratulations! You are living breathing proof that with determination, a person can reach a very challenging goal. Thank-you for sharing your story of how you got to where you are--very inspiring.
