I'm surprised this thread is still up, I've seen even supervised fasting threads taken down faster then you can say 'unhealthy wlmethod' here at 3FC.
I've water fasted in the past, anything from a few days to two weeks, I wouldn't recommend an extended it unless you've got a lot to lose as it doesn't do your fat % any favors,(you burn muscle). Now I think about it, this might explain why I used to put the weight back on but lately when I fast it stays off.
Hey guys, long time lurker (obviously) this is my first post but the eat stop eat fast sounded interesting so I thought I'd post. I'm a a broke student with a lot of classes that are spread out, and I usually don't like to buy food at campus or a fast food place, just at home because it's free. Something like this would be helpful as long as it's healthy. I think I'm going to give it a try and see how I feel on it.
I googled eat stop eat diet and this is part of a review that showed up:
"One little thing I want to lay to rest - I'm really prone to getting dizzy, etc, from low blood sugar - and that REALLY scared me about this plan at first - but I find if I eat a really healthy, high fiber meal before the fast, I don't have that problem at all. Far more likely to get dizzy from eating something sugary w/o anything to follow it up for awhile."
I found this interesting because I get dizziness like this also. Maybe it will help me.
It sounds a little radical though... I wonder how much a one 24 hr fast a week would benefit.
It would definitely be convenient. Has anyone done this long-term or at all?
I think if you fast it has to be a fast started essentially in the morning after a nutritious, slow-carb/fat/protein meal the night before. I get terrible dizziness/headaches from skipping meals, but only when I've been eating crap -- or when I don't drink water. If you have low blood pressure you'll feel a lot worse than if you just have low blood sugar, which your body can deal with and compensate for by burning stored fat.

I just wanted to add my experience with fasting. I don't do it for weight loss or cleansing per se, but I started years ago occasionally doing a one-day fast. There is a lot of information out there about the benefits of days off eating, but my primary reason is to use it like a reset button. After I have been particularly bad with my diet or I am really feeling stuck with my weight, I will go one day without eating. I do however, have coffee or tea and that might include a little milk, so it's not a complete fast. I can't deal with caffeine withdrawal at the same time! I also drink water through the day with lemon or lime juice, but no honey or other sweeteners.
It ends up being ~36 hours. It is hard. I wouldn't do it if I had anything real to do during a day that required a sharp mind. I could exercise early in the day but no chance by the end. It's a good day to watch a movie in bed during the evening. Of course socializing is almost out of the question.
So why have I done this? The next day after the fast is AMAZING! I don't wake up hungry and I really feel energized, renewed. I make a conscious choice about what I eat to break the fast and feel like it is a fresh start on my diet plan.
My weight was down slightly this morning (133.8) after a 36-hour fast. I am curious to see how it back bounces up! I will post what happens over the next few days...
