  • Morning!

Cutco knives are wonderful, my daughter has them and I'd love to get a nice set. But they're rather pricey for my pocketbook.

I have to make this quick. Jake decided to put the air conditioners in right now and wants my help.

Trader Joe's this morning and a lazy day of pool lounging this afternoon, if the threat of T-storms doesn't drive us inside!

    BBL!
  • Cottage - good for Jake!! We don't have AC and it's absolutely miserable this weekend.

Ruth - the week away sounds lovely!

I'm having a little bit o' coffee, reading the paper and clippin' coupons. Not sure what the plan is for today, my DH is restless, so I'm sure we'll be taking off for somewhere!
  • Hello all. I am 95% (over) packed and glad I don't have the stress of a morning flight. My mom and I fly to Albany later today, spend the night by the airport, and get picked up in the morning... on our way to spa heaven.

Full food disclosure... spa food is very healthy but not OP. I plan to enjoy it all but be mindful. Not sure if I will check in daily or not but I will be thinking of you while I am gone.
  • Quiet Sunday around here. Husband at work and son/girlfriend off to church and breakfast out.
I was looking around on the vitamix recipe site and found a recipe for bread that looks pretty easy. Going to try it out with my bread machine later if I can find some yeast in the cabinet. I have a 50lb sack of wheat berries, so I might as well use them!
Too hot to do anything outside. May go visit my aunt later who was admitted to a nursing home close to my house last week. She has only been settled in her new home for about a couple of years after losing her home of 50 years in Katrina. I'm so sorry she is having to give it up.
  • Good Morning

Slept in a bit after a late night out...we had an incredible storm yesterday and I'll bet the Colorado River is raging this am. Church service and potluck at the park today and it looks as if it may be dry enough. The garden fared well but a rose bush is hanging low. Guess I'll get the kitchen picked up and leave the rose for kirk.

    Have a great day everyone!

Safe travels, Karen, and have a wonderful time with your Mom.

Cat, sorry to hear about your Aunt, but at least you are close to her and may be able to visit more often.
  • Hi all,
Baby got sick in the bed this morning. So I woke up to that Washing linens now. Hubby's at church. I'm home with the little guy watching "How to Make and American Quilt." Cookout later with the in-laws, if the little one is up to it.
Hot as Hades down here Have a great Sunday!!
  • We're home I couldn't wait to get back and tell you all about our adventure.

This morning we went to Victory Basin to do some birding and walking. We've been there before and it's a great place full of wildlife, wilderness and not much traffic. We pulled over in a parking area near a fallen tree ("that's new"). As we got out we noticed a bird feeder in the tree over us and wondered if someone had actually been filling it. It's unusual to see bird feeders in wilderness areas. We decided to walk on the road instead of along one of the paths. About 15 minutes away from the car a truck pulled up and asked if that was our car in the lot. He then told us a "very big" black bear had come up from the river "looked like it was getting out of the car it was so close" and crossed the road. Umm, okay, that's a little unnerving. I've lived in areas with black bears my whole life, camped near them and seen quite a few. I know they aren't aggressive unless they feel threatened or there are cubs. After a little assessing we decided that we were better off continuing our walk to give the bear time to get where it was going. We would make plenty of human noise when we got near the car. Also when we heard the loud rustling off the side of the road a little while later. We walked for almost 2 hours, found a life bird and generally had fun. I mentally ran through all the things I knew about bears, told DW we needed to stay near each other (don't want the bear in-between us) and planned to use the car alarm if I needed to. We were feeling great until an elderly gentleman stopped and asked (again) if that was our car and had we lost a dog because he'd just seen a really big black dog crossing the road and going toward the car. I'm guessing he wasn't a local. We walked the rest of the way having very loud conversations with the bear, explaining that we liked bears but thought it best if we didn't all meet and lots of other silliness. I think there was even some singing in there (REM, we are a bit odd). We carefully made our way to the car and jumped in. We never did see the bear (I was a little disappointed once I was in the car) but it certainly made for an interesting and exhilarating morning Did I mention that DW had an open bag of peanuts in her camera bag?

Now I'm going to catch-up on here and see what all of you have been up to
  • OMG, Cyndi, I would have been scared out of my wits! Thank goodness you never did see the bear. I'm glad you're both safely back home and only have the garden snakes to worry about, lol!
  • You are braver than I, Gunga Din! I would have died.
You know the old saying about bears sh** in the woods? I would have done what the bears do..
