  • I'm so impressed with you--passing on not one, not two, but THREE temptations--I think that by the third I'd be saying something to myself about how it's fate that I eat cake since so many temptations have shown up in one day!
  • Good for you!! Just think how bad you would've felt if you had gone to town on it......not so good.
There's been many times that I've given in and then decided to look up the calories and realized I just ate up my whole days worth in one sitting. Now I just walk away, last thing I need is to double my workout just for one minute of pleasure.
  • giving up the processed foods
I think there might come a time when you can have a "taste" of cake, low cal or regular without caving, but I have to agree with you that sticking to non-processed and sweetened food might be necessary for us sugar addicts.
I can totally sympathize with your cravings.
I dream about certain snack cakes, and have trouble grocery shopping as a result. I have quite gotten over it yet.
You will find what you can and cannot do.
Sometime where you decide you want some great cake, I have two really good recipes to use with splenda (one low carb) to get you through as special occasion like a birthday etc. BUT they are full recipes and require lots of people to help you eat it, because even lower cal cake isn't ok if you have 7 servings instead of one!
ON that note too, I realized that when we were on vacation, my husband had a bag of chips that took him 5 days to eat it all, (he had a handful every evening) and I not only didn't eat any, I didn't feel like I was suffering to stay away. I thought about it, rejected it, and didn't obsess all the time.
Never would have happened a few months ago. So things do change....
  • Quote: I am definitely a dessert lover, and I've worked hard to still fit some sweets in. I know this might be dangerous for some, but I've bought some mini dove ice cream nuggets and sometimes I just eat one (60 cals) to get that chocolate and ice cream fix. But it can only be one....that's the rule.

I also seek out and make dessert recipes, like low fat pudding parfaits. Recently, I tried a recipe that called for 1 box of cake mix and 1 can of diet cream soda. That's it. Just mix the two ingredients together and bake in a cake pan for about 35 minutes. Let cool completely, divide into 12 servings. It's about 170 calories and 3 g fat per serving, and you would never know it wasn't a regular cake!

So far I tried it with a "Funfetti" cake mix and then with a strawberry cake mix. For the strawberry one, I topped each serving with some fresh sliced strawberries and a dab of Cool Whip Free. YUM!

I know these are sort of "empty" calories, but sometimes at night, it just hits the spot for me.
Me too! I have to find a way to add some sweet treats in my diet or I'll go crazy. Last weekend I made Tapioca pudding w/Splenda in my little dipper slow cooker, 117 calories per serving. It's way better than that faux no-sugar Cozy Shack stuff. Next I want to find and try a chocolate pudding to adapt for my slow cooker, or maybe I can adapt the recipe to a chocolate tapioca pudding. I've had the diet soda cakes and they are yummy. I've been making muffins and brownies with applesauce rather than oil for years and my family doesn't know the difference.
  • Today at my office the supervisor ordered a huge beautifully decorated cake to thank everyone for coming to work during the snowstorm. I didn't eat a piece. As soon as I got home I headed to the kitchen, found some cookies, chocolate mint, and chocolate peanut butter and ate half a box of each. They weren't even that good, but after struggling thru all that snow i thought i deserved something for my efforts.lol
  • mandisa – I know exactly how you felt! It's not only having the willpower to resist beautiful lovely sugary deliciousness, but to make sure you don't binge on stuff later when you've "escaped". The only thing that saved me was my removing of all things sugary from the house.
