  • I'll be the voice of dissent and suggest you don't count calories, but skip carbs. I tried every diet in the book before going low-carb, going so far as to spend 6 months at less than 1500 calories per day. Not a pound. Going low carb has definitely been the best diet move I've ever made. The weight literally drops off, and, although I miss my rice (jasmine rice is my favorite, btw), pasta, bread and berries, I know it's not forever.

This study from the University of California links high insulin levels to inhibited fat burning. Carbohydrates cause more insulin release than protein or fat, so removing high carbohydrate foods can aid in weight loss.

With that said [take it or leave it], there is an enormous body of evidence that links artificial sweeteners such as Splenda [sucralose] and Nutrasweet [aspartame] to inhibited weight loss. Although sugar contains carbs and calories, it's a better alternative to these chemical sweeteners. Better yet, skip the sweeteners entirely and adjust your palate. I used to be a cappuccino fiend, but, once I got used to not having everything SWEET, I discovered whole wide world of coffee and tea.

my neighbor has been taking adipex, and with the results she had gotten with no effort,
I assume you're considering this route? I've been on adipex. But not with "no effort"... I exercised regularly (4x week treadmill and 3x week weight lifting) and dieted, and the adipex DID HELP me to lose just over 30 pounds. Of course, after almost a year, I gained it all back PLUS some. Tried adipex again! - didn't do nothin' for me the 2nd time ...

so maybe that will kinda help you in your decision, if that's what you're considering doing.

It was the same for me when I tried LC'ing the 2nd time around...no loss whatsoever. This is why I'm counting the cals now and it's working for me beautifully.

I agree with many of the posters...get a scale and a free Fitday account. The wakeup for me was when I discovered what I "thought" was ONE tablespoon of mayo was actually more than TWO.

  • how many calories a day are you having?

it troubles me that you're having so many problems eating. you're having trouble finishing undersized portions and couldnt handle 5 small meals a day. this seems like perhaps a medical problem?

were you having trouble eating even as you gained the weight? or is this a recent development?
