  • THANK YOU FOR THAT MUFFINS RECIPE!

    i, too, am i huuuuuuuge carb-craver,
muffins and cereal and breads are my favourite to pig out on, which is aweful but i guess it could be worse, right?

if you were to use a Light cake mix, would that lower the points at all? if anyone had some nutritional information that would be AMAZING, i figure if i add fibre to anything i'm cutting down on points

    thanks again!
  • I just bought a box of cake mix and some pumpkin and am planning to make those muffins. I'm really looking forward to trying them!! Never would've thought of it! Thanks for posting the idea. How do you think other flavours of cake mix would work? I like the taste of pumpkin, so it wouldn't matter if it wasn't masked by the taste of the chocolate.

  • Cool -- I am going to try that chocolate muffin recipe. I'll bet the pumpkin makes them very filling.

Regarding muffin points. It's outrageous, isn't it? People eat a muffin that size (which is standard in all the bakeries around my office) and consider it breakfast, or even just a snack. When I found out the ones from My Favorite Muffin were 16 pts (and 10 pts for the fat free variety), I almost died. I used to eat a full-fat chocolate chip one almost every day in my fat days.

Makes you think, doesn't it? This is what corporations are pushing as a "single serving size." Something that is almost 700 calories and is about half your entire daily caloric intake if you're a woman watching her weight (who isn't??) or a third if you're not. That's a single serving size! Hello, fast food nation! All the press about us becoming a country of obese diabetics misses the point. It's not because we're lazier and less disciplined and morally bereft -- it's because the food industry, facing intense competition and seeking higher profits, KNOWS that we've already reached the saturation point and now we have to start eating two, three, or four times MORE than our bodies need in order to keep the profits growing.

Forty grams of fat in a @*&%@#$*&#@ muffin?? Bakeries serving that crap ought to be held liable for every heart attack they cause.

And people don't have the information they need to work with. Look at this thread, for example. It's filled with people who are spending a lot of time and energy learning about the foods they eat in an effort to lose massive amounts of weight. Yet even WE don't know how many calories these muffins have. It's hard to judge by guessing, and companies HATE to give out this information. I've tried several times to coerce Starbucks to tell me the calories in their snacks. Company policy -- no info! They'll tell you about the drinks if you get a nice counterperson (it's all written down in their training manuals), but I've never found anyone who will tell me the info on the food.

    Anyway.

    Blargh.
