  • I am not picky I will really eat anything but, if it is not on my plan for the day I will not touch it so i guess I am both haha. Well I do think that taste buds change when I was little I used to hate a lot of foods now I LOVE them such as salmon, now i think salmon is delicious.
  • Quote: And never ever do I want any kind of syrup touching my bacon.
That is so funny. I purposely put syrup on my bacon and sausage..I love it! I love sweet & salty mixes.
  • Quote: No! Put it on a plate and I'll shovel it in! (As a child we didn't even have the choice of eat it or Don't eat it, it was eat it.)

Negative: that's how I got so fat.
Positive: I've now got a huge field in which to make my healthy choices.
I went to bed without dinner many nights as a child because I just refused to eat majority of things my mom fixed. And I still got fat..lol
  • Quote: I learned as an adult to like lots of things I wouldn't try as a child. But the only thing I can think of that I learned to like while dieting (not counting learning to truly like things with less or no sugar, which has been amazing) is fish. I had to make myself eat it for a while, and then it started tasting good. And then ... I became vegetarian. Kind of ironic.
The only thing I can think of that I love now that I hated as a child is eggs. Some things, like fish, I can eat if I'm trying to be polite. But I have to put tons of ketchup or something on it..lol

On a side note, don't be afraid of hummus! I introduced it to several people at work who were scared to death of it, and they're forever asking me to make more now.
I've tried hummus before at this place called Arzi's. It wasn't a gross taste necessarily, just such a gritty texture to me. Is all hummus like that?
  • I think my attitude definitely has a lot to do with it. Reading what you girls have to say makes me wonder why I'm so scared to try anything new.. Its like I think I'll die if I have something that taste gross.

Maybe I'm afraid if I find I enjoy healthier options one of my major excuses for eating such crap will be gone.

Thanks for all the responses girls!
  • Pretty much like everything, even things I am not wild about (green peppers, lima beans) I can still eat. The few things I really will try to avoid: passionfruit, fennel, caraway seeds, mayo.
  • OP:My advice for you because I was once in the exact same boat. When you are trying something new...have a big glass of water or diet soda close at hand when you take that first bite. Becuase for me, the only risk of trying new things is that they will make me gag because I have a really bad gag reflex. So I know immediately if I don't like something, and I take a few huge sits of drink and wash it all down without tasting anymore. So either you had a bad taste of something for a couple seconds or you tasted something new and delicious and can add it to your regular menu. That's not a bad gamble and you need to be willing to take it to expand your horizons. That's my thoughts on the subject anyways!

I now know however that I cannot eat anything with dill pickles, most beans (too chalky), onions, or any kind of pepper. That's about it and I am game for anything else.
  • Tiff-I'll definitely have to try that. I need to learn to like new, healthier things. For sure.
  • Textures. Definitely textures. I have a whole list of foods (lima beans, warm apples, sushi, nori, mushrooms, etc) that I won't put in my mouth specifically because of the texture.

Then there's preparation methods. No overcooked chicken. No overcooked (or undercooked) beef. No soggy vegetables. Etc.

Then flavors. Nothing bitter. Nothing overly salty. Nothing gag-me sweet. Nothing acidic.

And NO NO NO NO NO NO SPLENDA! I REFUSE to eat anything with Splenda in it! Splenda has the worst aftertaste EVER. I get a tiny tiny bit of it and can't get the aftertaste out of my mouth, no matter what I wash/rinse with, for at least an hour afterward. It's cut me way back on packaged 'diet' foods, though!
  • I *love* lima beans!!! MMMMMMmmmm!!
